I believe step 4 involves buying legislation that specifically identifies anyone using a form of non-DRM media as a terrorist, or something to that effect.
i remember when everybody thought they were cool because they knew that giga- was the one that came after mega- . . . and hard drives were about to get as big as a gigabyte!
then of course i impressed/confused them all by saying that someday we'd laugh as we brought home our terabyte drives . . .
It should fall upon sites like ebay to educate their users, even just a little bit.
i have to disagree. in my opinion, there is already too much being done to save stupid people from themselves. most of these things really should be common sense, and maybe if we didn't have so many warnings for stupid people common sense wouldn't be as uncommon as it is.
did you know that those cardboard things you can put in your windshield to try to keep your car from heating up so much in the sun actually say something to the effect of "remove before driving?"
well they managed to do a semi-decent job making it look like paypal, but who would be stupid enough not to be suspicious when told their home phone will be "Kept Private Kept Private" and see help when entering credit card info for "Using Amex? Using Amex?" and also having to agree to the "User Agreement. User Agreement."
i can't help but agree that people who fall for something like this deserve it. i refer to things such as this as the "idiot tax."
i agree--for those of us who don't need anymore background, the articles are a great resource, and it would take a lot away for them to start writing all stories with a "lower pitch".
on the other hand, i think this article is a good idea too--it helps out those of us who would like some more background to help us understand the normal stories.
all in all, i think that running articles giving background info is good, but i hope they keep it separate from the other articles. when i already have the background, i'd rather not have to drudge through it everytime i want to read an article on the subject.
You can substitute in R = 0 because the starting resistance is irrelevant, giving you a value of I = 15 for the first equation (note that this isn't the actual current in the circuit unless R = 0 which can't happen). Current (I) stays the same for the desired voltage
i'm sorry, but this post is more proof to my theory in college that software engineers think they know a lot more than they actually do. i expect that there are some software engineers who know more about software engineering than i do and maybe even are not cocky about it, but in my experience i have only met cocky SE's who know a good deal less about SE (and especially EE) than they think they do.
you cannot engineer anything based solely on equations you do not understand, and 15 = I * R does NOT turn into 15 = I when you set R to zero--it becomes 15 = 0.
I understand that you are more concerned with accessibility for the handicapped (I am assuming physical handicaps), but why build a website that is inaccessible to a specific browser?
Problems viewing the site? Then your browser is too old. Over 500 items are available at my various sites, and nearly everything produced since 2000 is fully-valid, accessible HTML. Netscape 4 chokes on many components of my sites; that's Netscape's fault. More details in the Site Design section.
maybe you need to go visit goatse again, they have an ascii version, so i would say that it's plenty accessible (actually, i would say that it's more accessible than i would prefer!)
I could walk around with a tee shirt on that said "By talking to me you agree to pay me $100" on it and make a fortune.
if you are like most slashdot readers you'd probably be lucky to make $20 on something that actually depends on people talking to you. and that $20 would probably be from your mom.
if you're going to pick apart somebody else's post, you may want to spell laser right, especially since it's an acronym! misspelling, in my opinion, is a bigger deal when it happens with acronyms since it's hard to see how 'lazer' means light amplification (through) stimulated emission of radiation
don't mean to be picky--it just really annoys me when i see 'lazer'--almost as bad as 'anyways' (i can't help but shudder with disgust as i type that).
most tv's will let you add and delete channels so it will only go to those channels if you enter in the number. of course that might only work for antenna, and it's supposed to be so you don't have to manually skip all those channels that aren't broadcasting anything in your area. but good point--i should try it with cable:)
this is the same reason device drivers are free. granted they're often only available in binary form, but if i get a piece of hardware by itself i can just go download the driver from the manufacturer (if i can find it).
if you're a hardware company, then until everyday people copy your hardware, there is no need to place restrictions on device drivers. even opening up the source in most cases will not hurt your company, unless you're trying to protect how the device communicates.
if you're selling hardware, sell the hardware. give away the software--it's no good without the hardware anyway.

anybody watch _kids in the hall_?
you should read your cash more carefully (assuming you're from usa). it says "in god we trust," not "trust in god."
how would they know that when their radar doesn't work?

by the way, IAAEE

since a space got inserted in that link, here it is for your easy lazily-clicking pleasure.

"i want every windows pc to belong to me! my computer, with my documents, which of course will also belong to me!"
all your "my ___" are belong to gates.
ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. welcom to con ed.
i think the intro to zero wing might fall into this category as well . . .

not very anonymous when you're providing your e-mail address, are you rjoseph@wi.rr.com?

they're always threatening to "pop a cap," and now this starts happening! coincidence? i think not!
. . . when you can make a free client available for download (____@home) and have it done for free?
