  1. Offtopic: Kent WA on Have You Seen This Segway? · · Score: 1

Lovely place, I lived there for about a year as a kid, nice sea air, lots of slugs and lots of rain. It was better then where I am at now. Dull boring western wisconsin, where on a good day you can only have a faint scent of manure. I should get a segway and cruise on out of this joint.

Very good point, they do mention in the article about the potential of the virus getting out of hand and they do mention in the story " One fear is that the immune system will recognize them and either overreact, causing illness, or kill the virus before it can do any good." Also they mention the potential for mutating. That I think really is a major concern . If the virus could mutate and start attacking normal cells it could become our own epidemic. Someone above commented that they wondered if China has been working on something like this and that is how SARS came about. Kinda scary.

I'm not taking a defeatest attitude. I think that using viruses for medical purposes like this and gene therapy are our future. I'm just saying that it will take time for us to further our understanding of how to build and modify viruses and our technological advancement of tools to do just that. One day in the not too distant future I believe we will have a virus programming language of sorts(like the one previously mentioned on slashdot). Where scientists can write down what they want the virus to do and hopefully find a way to build in a self-destruct sequence to help prevent it from spreading

Lighten up a bit. It was a serious topic and some levity was needed. Dont you think it's better to have something good to look at when discussing dark topics?

My girlfriends uncle has glioma and it also runs in her family. Her mother is in remission and her aunt survived it. My gf and I are also starting to get worried, she's been seeing signs(one eye totally losing sight for a few hours, seeing lights and headaches) that something may be wrong. She's going in for a MRI once her HMO approves it. We are hoping this treatment becomes available in the near future, but most likely it will be too late for her Uncle. He's been given till november at the latest.

I feel really lucky to have the only thing passed down in my family is a beer belly, no cancer on either side of my family. All strong heathly polish-americans people. My great grandma died last august at the age of 99 and my other great grandma is 95.

I've been using Dreamweaver since 2.0 and I dont understand why people think it' creates bloated code? It's HTML as simple as you can get. It's javascript is rather bloated but you dont have to use that at all. I write my own javascript and just use those snippets. MX is highly customizable and very powerful. I use it everyday for my job. I've yet to find something that can replace it. I do alot of hand coding in it too and I do know quite a bit.

  7. Re:Dreamweaver on Crossover Office 2.0 Released · · Score: 1

Well I've been using Dreamweaver since 2.0 and it does almost everything I need it to do and most of the time if it cant I can get it to with some xml editing and extension building. The Syntax highlighting is enough for me and yes it would be nice to have a tighter PHP integration but it wasn't designed to do that in the first place(they gotta try to push their crappy cold fusion). I do use Zend's PHP IDE also to do some more advanced PHP coding. Most of the time I dont need to do advanced coding when I'm designing sites for people. Just throw in some code to handle databases and logins and that's about it. Mostly I use dreameaver for the HTML creation. Another reason I like it is because I got it for free. My company buys it for me. Compared to Frontpage and GoLive there is no choice to me. To each their own. I just dont think Dreamweaver is at all bad. It's got some faults but no program is perfect.

:p yeah, I messed it up. English used to be one of my strong points and now that most of what I do is programming and chatting in IRC it seems to be slipping from me. I really have to get some time to start reading again and rediscover this language that I use daily.

  9. Re:Dreamweaver on Crossover Office 2.0 Released · · Score: 1

Dreamweaver is a great program and I have been able to get good HTML done fast. Have you even tried MX? The reason I want it to run is that it's the only reason I still use windows. My development time for webpages has halved since I started using MX. It's easily customizable and I was able to add alot more PHP support. I write my own javascript thank you very much. Ya know you dont have to use any of Dreamweaver's built in Javascript and that you can overwrite it with your own functions. It's really not that hard.

Well my only problem with legacy free is no more old game port for MIDI purposes. Nowadays ya gotta buy a USB based MIDI unit that costs more then a bit more then the old gameport to midi cables. I play keyboards in a band and use Acid Music Pro 4 to control the keyboards from a laptop. Works rather nice. It just sux for most of the half starving musicians to have to put alot of money into what used to be really cheap. I'm at the moment saving up to get a USB based one just so I can upgrade my laptop to a modern set up.
