What if the patient loses his/hers card? What if his in an emergency and happens not to walk with that card in the pocket?
Also, these information is not relevant only when the patient is in front of a doctor - sometimes, the case is reviewed by a board, or acessed for preventive care (like, your parents had cancer and you haven't showed up in 6 months), or for scientific research or juridical purposes.
Usually, the information kept by the institution is different from the one given to the patient. In Brazil, the patient has the right to get reports on anything he wants, but not the originals.
today almost every programmer regards themselves as an engineer.
I agree. Most programming today (at least, the programming I`m doing) is implementing/adapting/optimizing algorithms. This is engineering (although optimizing requires a bit of intuition (I`d rather say "magic", sometimes:-) )).
But to design an algorithm, or prove that one works fine, is more to maths than to engineering, and IMHO that`s what Comp Sci is about. The above paragraph refers to Comp Engineering (these are two different subjects (and courses BTW) where I study).
Would I recommend it to my little brother who is thinking about Linux but is not the type to...
Well, maybe, but if and only if you're going to install and maintain it
I use myself Debian and have installed it in my dad`s homecomputer, plus KDE, Staroffice and stuff alike, and he`s doing fine using it. But keep in mind that I`m the one who mantain it, so I won`t install a distro which I`m not used to.
Otherwise I`d better tell him to buy himself a Mandrake CD at the drugstore:)
Consider a big company that once (20/25 years ago) have spent a great deal of money buying a make-it-all (altough proprietary) system that solves many problems of this (not so) fictious company, and have no flaw that prevents it to work properly.
Would this company replace its system only because it's proprietary and possibly spent more money? I think the answer depends on how much "more money" is.
In my homecity, the local library still uses an old server with dumb terminals, and I think the whole administrative systems is based in it, the very system that was bought 20 years ago. Here, in the 3rd world, would be a shame to spend money replacing a system that works fine just because it`s proprietary.
IMHO those lawsuits will always turn in favor of open-source software. It's causing people which never though of it to think about differences between proprietary and open-source software, and to even worry about it.
I hope that, then, more and more people will feel more confident about open source, then start to use it.

Actually, the womb has a magnetic field which guide the spematozoids towards ``goal'' (The spermatozoid itself is like a magnetic dipole).
If the mechanism [for guiding spermatozoids] is different in mice (IMHO it isn't), maybe it won't work.
"Boycott filler bands, they don't deserve any money at all. Instead buy only the CDs of bands that you think are putting out a quality music, if we all do that, the music industry will change and we'll all get to listen to quality music."
I hope you're right, but I think that the most profitable `music' is from filler and nothinger (that is, a cd full of filler music) bands.:/
(Would it be troll to cite bands like this?:-) )
BTW, I don't think you were misunderstood. I just pointed that whether a song is filler or not is a matter of personal taste. So it'd money at all. be difficult to press industry in that fashion.
Wow! Imagine installing KaZaa and downloading your favorite driving songs while driving!
Not a good idea, someone could DoS your car and it would crash..:-) And maybe install spyware that allow your wife/parents/friends to track you. So there's no more ``I'm going to a friends house'' anymore. At least if you got a Porsche:-)
Altough I agree with you when you say ``listen to full-disc bands'' or something, there ARE great one-musics band of course. Say Steppenwolf. I listened to their record but the only one I really like is Born to be Wild.
But it's very personal. I dig Jethro Tull, but many friends only enjoy Aqualung, or lets say King Crimson: Red is the only thing some people want to hear.
Other thing: A rock band (like mine) that play other's music (I don't know the right term for this) usually don't play a full record of one band, so what they're going to do? buy lots of cds for one or two songs in each? or wait till it plays in radio ?:-)
this will make the M$ bug-tracking policy different? I mean, now you should report a bug to them and can't tell anybody else, then wait till they release a fix and hope they have listen to you.
If you're going to pay for that, you're expecting a better way of doing things, and I don't think it'll happen.
Knowing the sun's mass, the distance of the planet from the sun, and the orbit period, you can get the planet's mass using Newton's laws:
Fg=GMm/d^2
Fc=Mv^2/r
Fg=Fc
v=2*pi*r/To
Fg is the gravitational force, Fc the centripetal force, M the sun's mass, m the planet's mass, r is the planet orbit radius, d the distance of the planet to the sun, pi is pi:) and To is the orbit period.
As you know all this numbers but m, is just a matter of doing the maths:)
They lose 150$ per XBox? So they're selling XBoxes for less than it costs or what? In this case, this procedure has a juridical name, I think it's ``dumping'' but not sure.

I also provide software for healthcare, and what we do when there's a urgent issue is:
As by doing this we lose time and work, we avoid doing this unless it's really really necessary.
the first-choice scripting language would be basic. no, it would be too slow. maybe 6502 assembly... ;)
No doubt about it: Here's a web server written in postscript language. hee hee hee ;-)

Far better than this crap

If you are REALLY so ardent against M$, you should buy a Xbox and play as Tux :)
