Says the lefty wingnut, right? Your comment history suggests this. How are you different from the stereotype you're ranting about?

He was referring to situations where unions prevent bad employees from being fired. The US car industry suffered greatly from this and from too much insulation from outside competition.

While a bad employee might explain specific cases, the problem is much broader. It's 'hard' to write secure, complex software in any context. I think the best solution for security is to avoid overcomplexity. We don't 'need' networked computers in cars, it's just that the powers that be, public and private, want our mobility tethered to them. We don't 'need' electronic braking and throttles either. I guess it is political after all.

No, but it makes your argument untrue. Whatever's being argued for (or against) may in fact be true, but not for the reasoning you presented.

Regularly, we see story submissions from rags like huffingtonpost, so why not breitbart? The issues can then be debated here openly..well at least as openly as the moderation system permits. From this perspective, it almost doesn't matter what sources the submitter used, though it would be nice if multiple sources were cited.

The only conclusion I can draw from all of this is that, like so many other 'prestigious' awards, the Hugo is now essentially worthless: Just a prop to push circular legitimacy for certain political viewpoints. That's unfortunate, but good to know.

He shouldn't have been canned just because some find his politics unacceptable. If he, as CEO, fired those gay employees for donating to pro gay marriage propositions, would you be ok with that? I doubt it. Part of diversity is tolerating those who disagree. Tolerance != like. It just means leave them and their rights alone. He has a right to donate to whatever political parties he chooses while retaining employment, just like those gay employees do.

Do you really want to live in a society that witchhunts for people who don't conform to popular views? Remember when the religious right had the monopoly on culture? You know, the kind of behavior those civil rights crusaders fought against? Be careful you don't become that which you fight.

Your attempt at the tired incel-virgin-gamer stereotype is the fail here. What are you trying to prove? Games certainly aren't the be-all-end-all of life, but neither are relationships. Why post here at all? You've made it clear that gaming isn't a big interest of yours.

Some percentage of the time, you're paying $205 for the privilege of a solo workout you could've gotten for free. I'd rather save that for something with a guaranteed payoff. Even with that, paying for sex directly with cash, via proxy of a night out, or with a mortgage followed by vagina-debt alimony, is still a waste of money. It's something that desperate, insecure incel-loser stereotype would do to retain access.

Dress codes don't fix that. They just refocus it to smaller and even less relevant differences. If your employees are spending most of their time bitching about clothing and their sex lives instead of working then get rid of them. I don't care what sex they are. Hygiene has nothing to do with dress codes. Dirty laundry smells no matter how expensive it was. Ditto with dirty bodies no matter how much they're paid.

Clothing has little bearing on the trustworthiness of a company since, as you've already learned, people can choose to overdress to compensate for lack of true capability and honesty. Of course, this only works if the targets are also similarly insecure and irrational. Slackers come in all shapes and dressed in all kinds of clothing. So do hard workers.

I submit that people who think shit like dresscodes are important are the ones who are 'spotty', at least in terms of self-esteem, and that insecurity is probably justified.
