$60 per author unless u have a few books...
and $30 million for the lawyers !!
One has to think were the authors even being represented here and who formed this author's guild.
My opinion is that having the full content of books on google is absolutely best for the consumer as well as the author. I and most people go out and buy more books as a result. Knee jerk reaction akin to RIAA is only going to end up creating an inconvenienced (and annoyed) consumer and poorer author.
hmm! i miss the point here, they are outsourcing to be ecnomically (that is price wise) competitive and they are mostly on-shoring research to be technologically competitive. As with natural selection markets work better when there is freedom to try/fail/relocate/die/exist and in the short term be successful at surviving - no real different that what we went through since the time of the one celled bacteria. Money incidentally is one of the criteria of success for the organism called company in a ecosystem called markets.

I am noi scuba diver, but I know a bit of physics: whatever method is used to extract the gases from the water at that depth, these gases WILL be at the pressure of the water at that depth. No need to pressurize it.
Not necesarily, if you are using a partial vaccum system to diffuse the gases out of water, they will be at very low pressure, you will need to have a presuurization system to bring it to ambience or in other words for every bar increase you need to double the volume of O2 generated.
i didn't mean google site rather the bluetooth rifle site..
coming to the answer.com vc dictionary.com debate, i used to frequent dictionary.com b4 i realized google gave the meaning.. its more useful sometimes when you are not sure of its usage in a specific instance.
i just posted this to check how many people typed in quicker than me.. to get to number 3 spot...
hmm! sorry was pretty loussy of me but since the site is down couldn't help but stat it out...
the last version of thunderbird (hmm! i uninstalled it so no idea what version it was but most probably 2 months old), used to create a lock on the imap server, can anyone confirm that problem or verify whether it has stopped doing that... after move to firefox i was really looking forward to moving to thunderbird but the software was not realible enough.
Is filtering over imap supported ?
What if the electrically charged particles collide with the plasma particles does it mean just loss of energy ? or can it also portend a weakening plasma field !! does plasma particles affect the charge on the accelerating particles ?

I have been using matlab, mathematica, maple and mathcad for different purposes in university and currently in job. I feel matlab by far is the best of the bunch simply because it allows for a more powerful simulation experience using simulink. Here is what I feel about learning these packages vs. coding...
1. matlab - hard on newbies' but very powerful and elegant in the hand of intermediate and advanced users. Graphical simulations possible through simulink. Matrix computations are very fast!! and on average it takes the least amount of time to solve the problems compared to mathematica, mathcad and maple.
2. mathcad - the first mathematical software I used, very easy to learn almost instantaneous learning!!! but that was when mathcad was still in dos mode, I saw the windows version out now and they seem to be cumbersome to get around, but then I have not been using it regularly.
3. mathematica and maple - almost similar performance, mathematica has better interface and with a large amount of tutorials and extensive help system is easier to learn than maple.
4. scilab - a matlab clone which is GNU (I think!!) used it couple of years back when it was not as good as matlab graphically... maybe its better now...
Now, coding - yes it has to be done from time to time but I think due to these softwares it has been relegated to the sidelines when extensive run times are involved and a significant performnace gain can be derived by days of coding. I belive it may be easier given the tons of free libraries available but it still takes longer to code in c/c++ than in a 4GL (generation language) like matlab and mathematica.
Coding still can't beat the quick prototyping mode of these softwares i.e u can do a lot of manipulations in the time u take to write and debug the code. It basically boils down to whether result or way of getting result matter most !!!
and then don't forget sometime those big screen scientific calculators are faster to get quick results than u'r fancy softwares and codes:) ob' it may not stand the test of u'r research !!!
can it be a M$ marketing strategy to force people to upgrade to winXP, I recently read about Univ. of California, Irvine making it compulsory for every user on its residential network to upgrade to XP. Even though some concession was provided, I don't see a reson for migrating since all my applications run well enough and most of the security problems can be taken care by running a firewall. (atleast taken care of as well as in XP)
To incorporate (form a corporation) is not that inexpensive, would you want to shell out about 800$ in taxes etc every year for the company just to shield your name ?, In california even if your company doesn't have any revenue there is a minimum amount (read taxes) payable annually.
Also to close a Inc (incorporated company) is not a trivial task and takes both time and money. Inc though has almost no liability for the founders and officers since it legally separated business and corporate assets!! (so that someone suing the company for your product doesn't end up bankrupting you).
Another form of company which is gaining grounds now-a-days is LLC corporation, its easier and cheaper to setup and dismantle and gives adequate (though not similar level as Inc) protection in temrs of liability.

I tried to stake out digikey to see if i can buy some bluetooth module, doesn't seem like, does any one know where to buy bluetooth modules. Also I find it surprising that the part number for the bluetooth module was the only thing not mentioned in the project details.
didn't use to work with anything (even IE 5.05) couple of months back except IE 5.0, finally it works with 5.05 but haven't checked with netscape and from the response from their customer rep last time I don't think they care a lot for their customers as to what they have... better get the browser they need or get lost !! In any case I have seen this mentality even with Bank of America which is the worst bank on this planet even worse than the government banks in china... (yes! now u know how low level BOA is... its actually a real boa (snake) with poisnous fangs... I closed my accounts after suffering charges for everything and anything and a real painful customer service... then who doesn't know about the BOA way of service...
ok! that's about it... I sound like a BOA frustrated soul but u just have to ask the dozens around u and they confirm all the facts about BOA...
any idea what will be the effect of radio waves at 120GHz on human tissue and for that matters on other materials. From the concern with 2.4 GHz communication which seems pretty close to what microwave uses to heat water molecules, I would think there is no problem to human tissue at 120GHz but how does one know ?? any emphirical formulae relating frequency to material it can heat ??
