Maybe if Steve Jobs & co. didn't have a monopoly over the hardware that runs OS X, Microsoft wouldn't have such a large market share.
There is a difference between having a closed system and having a monopoly. Steve Jobs & co open Apple systems up to clones a while back and it nearly killed the business.
BTW, since Bill Gates does give so much of his (personal) money to education and third world countries, maybe we should respect him a little more by *not* playing this game.
Maybe if Bill Gates didn't have a monopoly over the OS market Apple would have more money to give to third world countries. Plus they could afford to
give everyone a
raise.
I think stories like this provide a good way for people to get the word out if there are problems with updates.
It usually takes MS and Apple a few days to fess up with their mistakes. The/. crowd keeps everyone in the loop in the meantime (like saying, "Hey, don't install service pack 3").
Apple's software updater forces me to reboot all the time. Microsoft makes me reboot after installing a service pack (and every time I "look" at my network settings). Redhat's software updater only "asks" me to reboot after a Kernel upgrade is installed.
I wonder if you have to reboot with software update in Apple's OS X server?
I have Hauppauge WinTV for my PC and it's not very good. WinTV has problems with non-standard NTSC scaling. Thus, there is a black squiggly line at the top of each channel that can't be cropped out. It shows up in all my recordings too.
I have beta tested SCOs version of UnitedLinux. UnitedLinux is basically Caldera mixed with SuSE. It's not hat great unless you really like SuSE stuff (YASTA, etc).

This wrong on 4 different levels of wrongness. I love it!
I hope you aren't still sensitive about this because the hounds are going to tear this story apart.
We are the Packard Bell Borg. We will add your emachines distinctiveness to our own. All your waste are belong to us. Resistance is futile.

Either that or Lindows for workgroups.
Well Lindows 3.0 just came out. It's nothing stellar but Lindows 3.11 is expected to change the face of computing as we know it.
a RedHat 8.0 box with Mame [http://www.mame.net] for games.
RH 8 gives a nice look and feel over previous versions and it's not do different from a Windows system.
How is that a troll? I though it was +1 funny.
Yea about as comfortable as I feel having a monopolistic power inside my laptop or cellphone.
Can you put cards into an iMac flat screen?

I wonder if the Eye TV has this same issue.
How would you rate the viewing picture quality?

Help is out there man.
I wonder if this update will disable anything that apple dosen't like you to have.

You don't need one, just use dyndns.org
Flamebit
I only hope Mozilla can make a popup blocker for my phone.
Ok, I'll admit that Mac OS X 10.1 was slow. 10.2 was a little faster, but 10.2.1 is ever faster to date.
I don't think that Mac OS X is slow... The problem is that Mac OS X appications are slow (especially IE).
PS> I have an 800 MHz iMac with 256MB of RAM.
The real question is, given the 1.0 release is less buggy, would you be willing to pay for it?

Forget that. They should make Star Office free again and charge $99 for Solaris.
step 1. Install a distro that actually cares about fonts. Eg, Red Hat 8.
step 2. ???
step 3. He's right!
RH8 Fonts look good (except for in Mozilla).
