Natural processes are more or less balanced; what nature puts out, nature absorbs. Yeah and the planet's temperature had been the same for eons until us pesky humans showed up.:/
I just heard Tom Robertson, Microsoft's GM of Interoperability and something else, say that Windows is already "a totally open platform" as evidenced by the large number of applications that currently run on Windows. What a joke.
The poster to whom I replied wrote "...allows small scale retailers to compete with the big boys". That's the same rhetorical style generally attributed to implementors of the political doctrine or philosophy called populism. I was responding the manner in which the OP framed his argument and was not trying to imply that price floors are popular. Sorry for the confusion.
Price controls/manipulation are never a long term positive economically speaking. These kinds of things always lead to inefficiencies, which have a net negative economic impact.
They do, however, make excellent fodder for populist politicians and the pathologically uninformed. Bread and circuses, anyone?
There are folks out there who believe that the income tax is unconstitutional and have used the strategy you described with varying degrees of success. Needless to say, the IRS doesn't agree with this point of view, and they can absolutely ruin your life on a whim if they see fit. With this in mind, most people just pay their taxes.
Of course, the precense of one or more giant planets in a system increases the chance of habitable planets, as the giants acts like vacuum cleaners, keeping the smaller ones relatively undisturbed.
True, but only if the gas giants are far enough away from the star to allow smaller planets to form in between.
This is a misconception. America's economic recovery from the Great Depression occurred entirely during the early years of WW2, and it was due to increased production for the war (not boondoggling).
There were a number very helpful online resources for getting the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard to work in Linux. I know because I built a computer for my girlfriend with that motherboard (GeForce, too) and successfully installed Debian on it. It just took a little work getting the integrated dual ethernet working, but it's not impossible.
We have deflation at the moment. Cash is king.

I would start by not using the term "mundanes" to describe the people whose votes you will eventually need.
Mersenne primes are simply primes that have this form, but not all numbers that have this form are prime. For example, 15 = 2^4 -1 and is not prime.
Also, for a number to be a Mersenne prime, the 'n' from 2^n-1 must be prime (according to Mathworld).
And the 16 megs of ram bit is total BS too. Gateway, like everybody else, didn't ship machines with 16 megs of ram until Windows 95 came out.
Not true - I had a 486 with 16 megs of RAM that shipped with DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.1. This was a full 2 years before Winows 95.
I just did a fight between Chewbacca and HanSolo, and HanSolo won.
