I don't think this is supprising. Females are more social creatures than males. I won't say wheather this is biologic or social, but right here, right now, most of them are. Females in their teens are known to talk on the phone FOREVER. Females are known to sit around and gossip all the time. Computers are now straightforward enough to use so that a new user don't have to figure out how it works (typical male behaviour), but instead, can go straight to $chat_network or $social_website and start to gossip. They use internet because it helps them do what they like to do outside of computers.
Males, on the other hand, like to play with stuff, build stuff, etc. Maybe the internet isn't that appealing to that crowd in the same way. Or maybe it is, but males actually get "done" with the internet, just like we usually finish a phone call in one minute, and go on to do something else instead.
Of course, that doesn't mean that there are more female hackers than male - hackers are people who use internet (and computers in general) to build stuff, and more males want to build stuff than females, and thus, there should be more male hackers than females.
I am currently using it, and I've used a more normal Dvorak layout before, and I'm not that impressed. Partly because I use funny letters, like åöä, which the Dvorak Programming layout requires me to use alt-gr for, but that is not in any way different from normal dvorak - just from the dvorak I used before.
My other complaint is that you have to use shift to type digits. Even though I enjoy being able to type special characters without pressing shift, I rarely write two special characters in a row, but I often write multiple digits, since numbers very oten consist of multiple digits. To solve that problem, I've replaced the numbers and the special characters. However, too many keys are on the numerics - the special characters would IMHO be much better placed on your home row or your upper row, just like they are in many swedish dvorak dialects, so I wouldn't have to stretch my fingers so much. I mean: I don't touch type on the numeric row, because my fingers are too short to reach it properly - don't cram too much stuff up there!
I sometimes wonder if there is any logic behind where the keys are placed. For instance, = is used on almost every line when you code, but it is in the least accessable position on the whole keyboard - on the absolute top, exactly between your index fingers. It feels like all special characters were moved around Just Because.
When it comes to the special digit arrangement: I'm not sure. I haven't been able to get used to it yet, so that means either that it sucks, or that I haven't tested it enough yet.
I should tell you that I probably don't code enough to experience the eventual advantages of this layout, but I still feel the layout isn't that good.
Actually, the Mac people are all übersocial brats, and as such, they have friends. When reseting their "bios", they just invite five friends: four to hold down one key each, the fifth to press the power button, and the owner of the machine is then free to watch the monitor.
Apparently, DoS attacks were going to be labled as computer infringement. So, since I'm swedish, I can compromise your server just by loading your web site quick enough, while you guys still need to actually get into my server! This law makes it so much easier to be a cracker around here!
Or maybe it's what the Wifi-figures are. Rethorical Bandwith. "802.11g is 27mbps full duplex. That is 27mbps in each direction. So we have 27 rethorical mbps times two, which sums up to *drumroll* 54!:D"
You don't have to sell your soul to any carrier - it wouldn't be much of an open phone if you had to do that, would it? You buy it and put any SIM card you want in it.
When looking for a powerful, small (12-13 inches) laptop, Apple was way cheaper than other PC equivalents. Of course, the Apple didn't have as much extras (fingerprint reader, PCMCIA port etc)... I talked to a friend who bought a iBook a few years ago, and he said that he bought his because it was cheaper as well.
My point is that they give you value for powerfull, tiny machines. I wouldn't buy anything else from them, though (I wouldn't buy any Apple hardware, since I use Linux, and Apple managed to take the supported Intel hardware and fuck it up completely, but that's a different story)
For the record, I got 10% discount for being a student (so did my friend). Without that, it might have been as expensive as, or perhaps even more expensive than other options.
The student councilor at our college actually has special lectures on how to manage school Even though you play WoW. Apparently, WoW is the number one reason for people to drop out, and is thus the colleges biggest enemy.
I've heard it's there to give the trolls a harder time - they can no longer reload the front page and just submit "first post!" as soon as something turns up. However, it sounds quite silly, since it'd just create a single extra page to reload...
Is it just me, or are we sounding like the crew on the ship that crashes on earth to create our population in Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy?
Yeah... Good point, really. The fact that you can name one game for each console that violates the impression GP had is really good proof that he got the part about general impressions and focus audience wrong. Yupp, really solid proof...
(if you feel the need to back your claim up with even more games, you really don't understand)
Don't worry about transmitting your info through someones router - the Scary part is that you transmit the router in clear text! Well, the webpage claims it is Finaly fixed now after many months. However, I suspect that the Linksys is still vunerable, since I don't believe that they've updated their firmware for those. I might be able to tell for sure, if they didn't update their firmware without bumping the version numbers, and they didn't require my email to let me get it (I just want to see the version information!)
On the other hand, if they buy a Wii, they can throw away their DVD player, and put the Wii where the DVD player used to be, and thus they don't have to care about extra space.
You DID see that Nvidia was behind this, right? Which means you'll have to run som broken, bloated and insecure binary blob just to get the bloody CPU working.
If you cannot see anything that isn't light-on-dark, you probably want to have it the same way in the rest of your system, right? So, just switch KDE theme, and Konqueror will use the same settings.
Yes.. There is this thing usually refered to as irony (although it strictly speaking isn't in this case), where you say one thing, just to emphasize the opposite, like, for instance, saying "The printing support under linux is world class cutting edge" or... Well... "They have this revolutionary concept called virtual desktops in OS X".
You may have seen others say it by now, but I'll give you the link to the olpc environment, sugar, again (on a website with lots of potential contributors, this link cannot be pasted too many times): http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar
They get about 20 000 new connections/second. Yes, that is NEW ones. They already have a bunch.
The linux kernel just can't handle that many incomming connections, so it breaks down. I heard that they used to reboot their servers every 7:th minute, just to get rid of the quene of connections Linux couldn't handle. Now, they've written some modifications to the kernel to make it more durable, but it still isn't enough: they can't handle every connection with the limited amount of servers they have. I heard they're replacing the whole IP-stack to improve their performance even more.
The solution, for you, is to be patient. They may not respond to your request the first, second or even third time you ask them. But they will, eventually. Just wait.
I spend most of my life chating (not on phones, though) - your point being? ;)
If you have a look around - would you say most women in your area are phone-scared tinkers?

Oh, but people do (you've never heard the "I want my pirated Photoshop and my games to run on Linux!"-crowd?), and many apps do run just fine.

I vote 3. Both of the above.
