That only applies to companies that make/publish only 1 series. For the majority of game companies, which make/publish multiple series, it is in their best interest to get you playing another game in a couple of weeks rather than sticking with 1 game for a year until the sequel comes out.
Except with games, they are not selling the tangible product; they are selling a license to use the software, a copy of which just happens to be contained on a tangible product.
Prepaid iphone, use wifi instead of 3g. Use Google Voice for the texting. The cost will be nothing if you don't make calls, a few cents if you make a couple of calls.
Money only = power if you let it. If the purpose in the things you do in life is money, then yes the people that control the money will control you. It doesn't have to be that way, though.
I imagine that will end when more and more people realize that there is free wi-fi all over the place they can just use instead, and the price of buying phones outside of being forced into a contract continues to go down.
Amazon would also have to hire more customer service reps. Delivery truck companies would need more mechanics for upkeep. Etc. etc. etc.
There will be some other job for everyone out there... and if their current job is all they know how to do, well, that isn't Amazon's fault, and it isn't the fault of people that want to use same-day delivery from Amazon.
I don't know about where you all live, but around here the small business sell specialty items which you either can't get, or would be more expensive to get on Amazon or at Wal-mart.
For example, the local yarn shop sells locally raised and handspun yarn; at walmart all you can get is the cheap made-in-china stuff, some - not all - of the yarn at the yarnstore you can get on Amazon but it costs considerably more.
Walmart doesn't even have comic books, Amazon's selection is pitiful and pretty much limited to recent stuff, while the local comic book store contains things you would have to scour ebay for and then pay shipping and risk your book being damaged in the mail.
The local stores have weekly meetups where the customers hang out with other people that share their hobbies. For the comic book store it is Wednesday. new comic book day, when everyone comes and gets their new comics... for the yarn store it is Monday, when they have a "stitch and bitch". The local stores are owned by experts on what they sell, which you can go in and talk to or email and ask questions and get an immediate answer. Online forums come close but can't truly replace all this, and Amazon's and Walmart's forums certainly don't come close. And even with the local stores you can call or email them and order something and pick it up or have them drop it off at your house on the same day.
There are no local stores for the stuff that I buy at Walmart and Amazon; there has not been for a long time. The locals stores that actually provide something more than Amazon and Walmart do will survive. Those that don't, won't. Evolve or die, it is the same as anything else.
If you posses fireworks, you were probably planning on setting them off. If you hold the keys next to a car, it looks very much like you are about to drive it.
There is no indication that simply by making a virus, you were about to do something dangerous. It's also pretty far of a stretch to say that shutting down a computer could be dangerous to others.
You see many people in middle age or later playing iphone games or facebook games or etc. or casually playing some game with their kids/grandkids. Playing games while young is the strongest predictor of whether someone will become a gamer, but nowadays most people in the US play some sort of game - which is why I differentiated the two.
let alone the money to buy twinkies or fruit-roll-ups
Oh, please, those irresponsible parents are buying nothing BUT stuff like twinkies and fruit-roll-ups, if Canada is anything like the US in that regard. In my state, someone with a family my size would get twice as much per month in foodstamps as I pay for groceries (food as well as toiletries). The only possible way I could even spend that much if I tried would be buying a fuckton of junkfood. Add to that the fact that their kids get free lunch AND breakfast - where the hell is all their food money going?
It's a valid study, though. For example: all the good writers read a lot, and most people that "love books" have thought up a story or two of their own in their life. Most artists like to view art as well as produce it. Do all people that have a deep interest in viewing art/reading books yearn to also produce it, or is it just that people that like to produce art/books also like to view it?
I really think that every teen that is truly a fan of TV (most people watch TV, yes, but that's different from being a true fan - just as being a gamer is different than simply playing games, as most people play games of some type nowadays) yearns to be on TV or be one of the people that make it work, at some point. The amount of teens on youtube are a big sign of that, imo.
The manga section at Barnes and Noble isn't exactly a great representation of manga as a whole. And I'm not sure how much mature manga is actually at Barnes & Noble, but let's not pretend here. America (and other countries) has stretched "child" to mean anyone under 18, or anyone that looks under 18 and doesn't show 2 forms of ID. America has stretched "sexual activity" to mean something as innocent as showing a boob when getting into a bath. Manga characters frequently look young, and usually don't have pubes (though there is probably not much nudity in the books at Barnes and Noble, I would guess). Since saying "she just LOOKS like a child, she's actually 30" usually doesn't fly in America (and other pedo-witch-hunt countries), by many Americans' definition of the words, yes; there's a fuckton of "child" "porn" in manga.
That's what they recommend, but I have a very small house, and in reality it works in a space smaller than that. And it doesn't have to be a space straight from the wall, it can be diagonal. Really if you don't have enough space in your entertainment room for it to work, you are probably sitting too close to the TV.
It's not quite $200, and I got mine for free, but if I had paid for it, it would have been about the same price as a good computer mic and stand, or a good gaming headset. It also has the bonus of not needing to be moved around or touched at all, which is great if you have a family - no worries of the kids breaking your expensive mic. I have used them all - headset, computer mic with stand, and knect - and the knect is really the best mic to use while gaming, imo.
Professional reviewers aren't the ones buying games. And people that read professional reviews are the minority of customers now. Really what it comes down to is how well things are selling (which I have no idea about when it comes to theses games).

People that want sites like Demonoid to survive and therefore support them by viewing ads?
I think you are the one in the fantasy world. There are more jobs than people in the world, even if that job is dog-ass-wiper or commercial watcher.

The shipping companies will probably have to hire more people.
Because if the UK is like the US, in most areas there is only one "choice" of ISP.
Cross-talk and meaningful feedback can be done online nowadays.
Then I think they just discovered a much more efficient way to educate university students, huh?

Sending letter bombs is legal in London?
Why the fuck would you "like" anal dildos at all, other than for a joke?

Cattle not getting a say in the matter seems like more of an argument for NOT using them...
When we hand the poor money and food and electricity and etc. it is quite surprising to me that they are still poor...
