I used both Matlab and Fortran in school. I would say that Matlab is more C like in it's syntax, and considerably easier to write number crunching code. I remember having to write subroutines in Fortran that were merely a function call in Matlab, granted, several of the Matlab toolboxes were available to me, but I had to wrtite everything from scratch in Fortran.
I think that's why schools are still teaching Fortran, they are actually teaching numerical methods, not just programming, at least in the engineering programs. In fact, Numerical Methods was the title of my first Fortran class.
Visa, for instance, doesn't require your signature for purchases at or below $25. You don't need a signature for purchases > $25 either, just buy something online.
Neither do I,
I was a gentoo user since version 1.1a (2002 I think) and loved it, but I have recently switched to ubuntu.
I switched because I was seeing broken packages in portage, and because of package bloat, I no longer had the time to wait for everything to compile, also my boxen were beginning to show their age. But I'm a much smarter linux user, and a better admin, because of gentoo. If it was easier to install pre-compiled packages I might not have switched at all. I have (mostly) fond memories of gentoo, and hope it's development continues, especially on portage.
Federal prosecutors say they don't need a search warrant to read your e-mail messages if those messages happen to be stored in someone else's computer. My ISP doesn't allow me to run my own mail server, so all my email gets stored on their computers.
Additionally, the email resides (at least temporarily) on both the sender's and receiver's computer. One of which is likely to be someone elses computer, if we're not talking about intra-organizational email.
I see your point, but if the code written before he's hired is GPL'd, then isn't the code written after he's hired derived from the former, where it would also have to be GPL'd?
I'm not "replying" to the sender, I'm bouncing it as undeliverable. Just as would happen if my email address no longer exists.
It may indeed use some bandwith, I'm not real familiar with how an MTA handles undeliverable mail, and I don't do it with every unwanted message, just the most anoying and frequent ones.
After much wrangling among attorneys over the definition of the word "willful," the judge told jurors that in order to find the company guilty, they must agree that company representatives knew their actions were illegal and intended to violate the law.
WTF? Turkeys can't fly!
Exactly. That would be the only reason U.S. federal authorities even care about this, it's not like they have any jurisdiction in those countries.
I knew I shouldn't have pre-ordered back in 1999.

What are you complaining about? They gave you about 259,200s notice.
Even more are used in the 2004 election: Winner=George Bush
Now they throw them out just in time for the 2008 election because George Bush might win again if they didn't.

they're going to have to dig that can out of the backseat of my car themselves.

Does this mean that Slashdot made first post on Google?

I Agree that "click to remove" just validates the email address to the spammer.
Since I started using Kmail, I just use the option to bounce the message back.
eom
I never did have a "Back" key on my keyboard.
But think of all the game sales to minors that would be lost because their signature is not legally binding.
Me: Gee officer, I wasn't speeding willfully.
Officer: Move along
Can you imagine a Bowulf cluster of these.
is that anything like unfrozen ice water?
