Could someone explain to me how this would be any more precise than high-quality optical analysis? Usually, in the slo-mo replay recorded by even the *average* quality cameras for TV audiences, you can almost always tell whether a ball was in or out. Make that higher quality cameras with a higher frame rate, and optical analysis seems like a very good way to do it, to me. It is, after all, what human umpires do.
But one has to ultimately question, whether, by gaining mathematical precision, we lost some human touch of sport that makes it enjoyable to play and watch. Fun can't be generated with a mathematical formula. And sometimes sitting on the couch and thinking "OMG that referee is such a dumbass" is part of the fun as well.
Watched the Aussie Open or Wimbledon in the last couple of years? I, and most other observers, consider that Hawkeye makes the game more enjoyable, and whilst probably isn't 100% accurate, is better than having players constantly whinging at the line judges and a constant feeling of 'unfairness' being held by a player because they think the human linejudge made a significant mistake (and maybe they did). Hawkeye won't make a SIGNIFICANT mistake.
Yeah, but they passed laws specifically against mobile phone use so they could give way harsher punishments for accidents using a mobile phone, to satisfy some whinging people. You can actually get longer in prison for an accident whilst using a mobile phone than accidental DEATH by driving.
But people who use cell phones on the road don't seem to understand these ideas. They will frequently place the cell phone first, driving second.
Sorry, but that is nonsense.
Using your mobile (cell)phone whilst driving is illegal over here, because our Orwellian government passed a law against it. I don't think it's sensible. Before that, I did talk on a phone whilst driving and you know what? I was able to put the mobile phone SECOND and driving FIRST. What makes you think that the class of drivers who are unable to prioritize tasks properly are limited exclusively to those using a mobile phone whilst driving?
For once, a post on Slashdot about singleness that's actually a seriously good point. I should think about these things WAY less. Mod parent informative.
Trust me, if you had the military start to invade Small Town USA, you'd probably have plenty of people in the surrounding area exercising their right to keep and bear arms.
You're missing the point. The military don't NEED to invade Small Town USA; they might be stubborn blockheads, but they're not THAT stupid. They do need to arrest/'remove' Troublemakers A, B, and C. And that will NOT result in people exercising that right, if it's done subtly enough and with enough anti-terrorist* rhetoric spewed forth from 'trusted' news sources.
* Can be the scapegoat-du-jour; child molesters, drug smugglers, etc.
Well, sorry, but I don't find it easily adjustable to. I fecking hate it when a text editor buggers around with my whitespace. I'm very protective about my whitespace. Four spaces vs a tab are VERY noticeable to me.
I personally thing VB.Net is great, and don't really understand why it doesn't get more credit.
It's literally C# with crappier (unnecessarily verbose) syntax. There's a difference between nice syntax, and having to spell everything out. Do they still have 'If... [...] End If'?
Python is the only language I'm aware of (certainly the only major language) that uses whitespace to define blocks. Thank God. It's a *serious* dealbreaker for me.
Your company talks in terms of hours to its clients? That's a marketing 101 no-no; you bill for chunks of work if you're delivering a project, not in terms of hours.
Geez, that's tough. Not only do they expect you to work long hours, they actually expect you to extend the length of a day by 26 hours! Who was this employer??
No, the key is to have a background of black and white stars, that inverts every second. That way, people can read the alternate words on the alternate seconds.
He lives on Christmas Island, you insensitive clod!
As an american, I'm not sure our ideals, as currently practiced, will win.
And you wonder why the US government wants to suppress freedom.

Maybe a $1000 ticket and a license suspension
So, what does that mean in the US? Like, you can't drive for 1 hour?

The govt is very limited what its responsibility is, at least in the US...based on the Constitution.
The Federal government. But the state government isn't so limited in these matters.
Quit ruining our fun. We want to take the piss out of Microsoft and IE.
Maybe i am cold hearted. or maybe i built my house 1000 feet above the oceans and hundreds of miles inland and want some nice beach front property.
"But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand." - Matthew 7:26
Wise words, I think, from the Bible.
The climate changes we are experiencing will likely take millions of lives.
So about the same number that Robert Mugabe has killed or ruined, then, whilst the world sits around and does fuck all about it.
Bookmark this link for daily updates and pop open a cold one.
I would, but I couldn't find any ice to cool it. :-(

redolence
Thanks for introducing me to a great new word for my vocab. :-D
This explains why our rights are slowly eroding. It makes the changes less tangible, less dramatic... Then the doublespeak begins.
If you were trying to justify gun ownership as a disincentive for government to take away rights, you just destroyed your own argument here.

C++ will always have a place in my heart & I'll use it when ever practical.
Don't you mean &&?

8 to 5, 40 hours days... I had to do that once.
Geez, that's tough. Not only do they expect you to work long hours, they actually expect you to extend the length of a day by 26 hours! Who was this employer??
