Sure because you can do so much harm with a couple of photos of fully clothed children playing sports... What a bunch of perv's those camera guys are... with their lenses and their creativity. It's just weird, to plain thinking folk. Yeah, weird. All that.. thinking...
2 years ago I tried taking photos of my family in front of some X-mas decorations at the Market Fair Mall in Princeton, NJ.
I was spotted by security and threatened with ejection - they cited private properly rules. Which is actually kind of hard to argue with.
But they said it was policy that I could take all the photos I wanted around the decorations, IF we paid for a kid photo with Santa.
I caved because that's what we were there for anyway.... To get my little daughter a shot with Santa Claus. (though in the old day's sitting on Santa's knee at the mall was free, and sometimes netted a small toy... greedy bastards the management is today...)
I recently took a trip to DC, did the tourist thing. Got a bunch of pictures of my daughter and wife at the Lincoln Memorial standing next to Abe himself.
Got home, and uploaded a couple of the photos to my account. Get this.. the auto tagger kicks in, and suggests one of my buddies as the _face of Lincoln_ . I kid you not/. The software zoned in on the statue and thought it was close enough to be my buddy.
He was thrilled, But he also said the same thing you're all thinking reading this: " The police better not start using that anytime soon."
Can you share what your thoughts were when you found out that NASA decided to name the 1st shuttle as The Enterprise? Can you offer any insights into the general thoughts of the rest of the cast or Gene himself? How was it for you, knowing that part of the show had such an influence on that segment of the world, meaning the fans and the space community, that they actually honored the show by naming a real spacecraft after it?
BTW, thank you for Kirk. You rock Bill.
Also, how the hell did you get mixed up with the Charlie Sheen roast? You're the last guy I expected to see... but your "who's the warlock now? Bitch" was indeed the highlight of the night. Along with "Steve-o. WTF? ":-)
This is something that I have seen time and time again - people having to become medical researchers for themselves because their own health care providers are (for whatever reason) not properly addressing the issues. Overworked doctors or whatever.
Hey google, read the above post. I hope that as you guys rework your search algo's over time that you put R&D and emphasis into medical/health searches. As you can see above, you are giving people access to life saving and life changing information. Keep it up, and make it better, please. Should be at the top of your search optimization task lists.
To parent: I don't have the words to adequately say it... but i'll just say it. I'm glad that you're here to have made that post. Keep on trucking brother.:)
You know, parent. You really need to chill out and stop insulting people. Your post reeks of you projecting your self confidence issues onto others.
I suppose that you may feel superior to others, by way of you not having a McDonald's job, but no other person is any less human than you. And for those who don't get maths and probabilities, and share your infinite wisdom about such... well I bet that they're really nice down to earth people who'd help another human without thinking twice about it.
So have fun making fun of people on the internet... they're out and about living their happy lives.
Maybe I'm missing something - but if Wikileaks didn't exist in the 1st place, then we wouldn't have this problem. So ultimately they blame goes back to them because they took the 1st step in even compiling and distributing the documents.
Sure, someone else may or may not have done same eventually... but we're talking about the current problem here, the way it actually happened.
It's all on Wilkileaks for doing what they did in the 1st place.
Oh yes, they must be looking at all the guys who disappear into the mens room with a copy of the local rag under their arm... You know the type of guy.. he sits there in the stall, trousers around his ankles, doing the crossword puzzle and reading the sports. And sometimes using it as a phone booth too.
What could be better for that guy, than having the news already there waiting for him....
Ugh... I just realized, sometimes the news IS there waiting for him... folded up behind the piping or stuffed into the paper spool....
So by your example I shouldn't have protection of anonymity for informing the police of a local drug dealer... even though I'd have reasonable fear of reprisals for doing so....
And immediately pushed it out to a portion of their user base.
I discovered this spring that I have my very own bug in 11G. Yes indeed.... and it only took Oracle a week to figure it out, even though I was able to reproduce the bug AT will in both production and my test environments. My own Oracle bug, and my own little piece of hell for a week....

Not that i disagree, but the scenario you describe likely opens up a whole can of worms. A couple items I can think of:
1. So let's say that one or a set of the hybrids created are just totally screwed up. Are suffering immensely? Can the responsible party perform euthanasia on them without being liable for murder/manslaughter charges. But wait... they were experiments, right? So the responsible party is not liable because the hybrids were 'less than human'......
See my point?
2.The right to life argument gets a lot more complicated. That crowd will come around with arguments like ' it's fine to protect man's creations and give them right to life? What about the unborn, who are also man's creations ' . **I am not stating my personal opinion here, but merely pointing out that many issues like this will become more... interesting. Rightly or wrongly.
Just because he fights for what is right, it doesn't necessarily mean that he wants to put his future at risk. Probably has a family to worry about. So he CAN care about the issues at RIM, speak out about it, and still have a way to protect his current interests.
And as someone else said, putting his name out there would not affect the situation at hand one way or the other.

New API's and libraries to exploit!!! All new attack vectors!!! Yeah!
Unless you're a /. geek . Then you're likely writing code in the middle of the night.

Sure why not? Just like there is a small species of ants that seems to be attracted to electronics/magnetism .Seriously.
I'm looking forward to having a cigarette later - to cure what ails me. My doctor said the tobacco is medicinal.... He smokes too.

Bye.
How many NASA guys are now pumping gas in Florida?
Lack of engineers, my ass.
Hey Mr President, we need jobs and stuff to be designed and built. Then you'll see the engineers get back on the grid.

But can they do this with aluminum??
But before you go, can you please fix this UI bug?

Hey - Just wanted to thank you for the site and all the work you put into /. .
I'm just some guy with a high UID, but for the last 12 years this has been my favorite site. Period.
Good luck to you in whatever you do. All the best man.

Oh great. Just wait till the TSA hears about THAT....
OP: Does anybody have any experience living without the internet?
Yes, that is what life was like before 1993 or so (yes guys..I know it's actually older than that.....) .
10's of thousands of years of human history, pre-internet. We got by. And we will again if needed.
Because people's bodies are so much less offensive when they are being riddled with bullets or exploding, versus just being viewed.
