  1. Could this decrease California's Revenue? on California Senate Approves Net Tax Bill · · Score: 1

Taxing internet transactions is very different from taxing physical store transactions.

Problem for California is, there is worldwide competition for California stores.

    The tax will...
    • Decrease store revenues and profit
    • Motivate Businesses to move out of California
    • Increase money moving out of California to other states
    • Decrease money moving into California

California clearly benefits from taxing local stores. When grocery shopping, I care if the store is in California. When making an internet purchase, I don't care where the store is located, unless it hurts me financially.

There is only a short term benefit for taxing internet stores. After businesses catch wind of this, they will move to Nevada or Texas, or start a new corporation (bn.com) to avoid this ridiculus tax.

You bring up a good point.

I can speak for Jesus because I know he hates how God's name is being used to steal from others. The eigth commandment is "You shall not steal". The third commandment is "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain". Using God's name to steal slanders God's work.

    This system...
    • Requires a smaller upgrade to existing infrastructure than having mass transit everywhere
    • Include the flexibility of of a car
    • Will reduce traffic by having cars travel in "packs"
    • Have an upgrade path from "legacy" cars
    • Maybe they can be incorporated into some type of rail system, where our freeways now stand, to gain fuel efficiency. This seems like the most time efficient way to travel in the future, short of the flying car.

I never saw it. Just wanted to see what people thought. Maybe find a good movie to rent.

    The nominees are:
    - Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, DreamWorks, USA
    - Spider-Man, Sony Pictures Imageworks, USA
    - Stuart Little 2, Sony Pictures Imageworks, USA
    - Star Wars Episode II, Industrial Light & Magic, USA
    - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Chamber Sequence, Framestore CFC, UK
    - Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Weta Digital, New Zealand

None of them are cartoons. I didn't see any category for a full length cartoon feature. That means, either the 3d awards committee didn't consider cartoons or didn't think they were as good as the movies.

Not very ethical however. Its a shame that these people represent believers in Jesus to so many people.
They are like the crackers of hackers. Crackers give hackers a bad name but they are a very small percentage of hackers. Same with greedy televangelists. They give Christianity a bad name, but are a very small percentage of Christians.

Jesus knocked over the tables of the "money changers" in the Temple. He definately does not approve of fraudulent televangelism.

  12. This month's "Linux will dominate Windows" Article on Any Reason To Buy Microsoft? · · Score: 2, Interesting

It seems like there has been a steady stream of these articles for a while. At first I believed them. Now it seems more like wishful thinking with every new "Linux will rule the world" article. I also tried OpenOffice and it is not as stable, mature and is way more bloated (Java) than MSOffice. Mozilla is now a great browser with many new features being added. It took a few to get to this point however. So OpenOffice has still has some maturing to do. There is something to be said about easy to use tools. Believe it or not, not everybody wants to think about tweaking, installing software dependencies, configuring, etc. People also like helpful and friendly help files (PHP is a great example). Time is more valuable and costly than software. OS can cost more if it takes much longer to learn and adopt. Don't get me wrong, OSS has its place. However, Microsoft does have some serious momentum in the marketplace especially with .NET. How do I know? Look at the job postings. Lots of .NET jobs even in this "dismal" economy.

Whats wrong with the new information on condoms? They are not the magical panacea for all the STD woes (Genital warts and crabs) and they are NOT 100% effective against the STD's that they protect well against. Only abstinence is 100% effective against STD's.

There should be more education on abstinence, especially in todays culture of blatant sexuality. In my sex education classes, abstinence was barely covered. Most of the teaching was on safe sex.
This culture of sex is oppressive and distorts the beauty of sex in a healthy marriage. It is very hard to live in abstinence.

I dont understand why people complain when abstinence is taken seriously by educators. Some people want to wait until they are married!!
    http://stacks.msnbc.com/news/841604.asp?cp1=1
Provide the education to help these people to exercise their free will.

In high school, I believed I was not healthy because I did not have sex, so I tried it and regret it. The sex was empty and left a void in me.
I am currently in a relationship where we decided to abstain from sex until marriage. It really has been worth it. We are focusing on connecting emotionally and spiritually. Abstinence is helping us to build a foundation for a strong relationship. We are closer and more honest since we focus solely on our friendship and relationship, rather than sex. We are equipping ourselves to make a good decision on marriage. Most importantly, abstinence has made our relationship joyful.

  15. RIAA responds on Music and the Internet Reprise · · Score: 1

RIAA replied to Janis Ian's article.

Their stance against people uploading songs against the copyright is a valid concern.

They want to "advance a thoughtful dialogue about how to address these serious issues" but their singleminded mantra against file sharing shows when they argue that the CD sales decline is caused by file sharing. Im sure the RIAA is rich enough to hire competent economists who know that the real reason for the decline of CD sales is the foundering economy.

They say "Stealing is wrong, no matter how you try and justify by painting the victim as the bad guy." Maybe the RIAA should get off their moral high-horse and evaluate how their price fixing and distribution practices steal from the people.

Its refreshing to hear an artist stand up to the RIAA bullying tatics. Like the RIAA says about Janis Ian, "more power to her."
