Prior to releasing an iOS, the focus on development is implementing the shiny new features. Post release, the focus on development is to fix bugs and make the iOS work faster.
In each of the past few versions of iOS released you saw within a month a 0.01 version increment that got rid of bugs and made things noticeably faster.
You therefore have the choice of jumping on the band wagon, or waiting until the incremental release.
There are some items that are critical to modern society functioning properly. It is a larger benefit to society to implement them efficiently, at a state wide or national scale, then it is to allow pockets of "haves" and "have nots"
Otherwise what we would have is pockets of civilization (e.g. Cities) and everyone else would be living like the amish.
Could it not also be that people who want to really understand computer architecture better take obscure classes like COBOL, and being better programmers make more money?
Short term I may be forced to take a job that I don't want, but long term I'm looking for a place to work where I'm treated like a human being, and where I can enjoy working.
Life is too short to work like a slave.
And while it may be that you have some employees who can't get a better deal, you can bet high performers like myself won't work in your shop – at least not long term.
How about cost? A suit costs more than jeans + t-shirt and you'll need a few of them. You still need to own jeans and t-shirts for your off days, so you're buying more clothes then before. Plus suits wear out easier. Torn jeans are trendy. Torn suit trousers are not.
On top of that you can't clean them yourself, you have to take them to a dry cleaner, which costs money. The shirts you can clean yourself but prepare to spend some time everyday ironing, and it won't look as nice as if you'd brought it in for a proper cleaning.
Not to mention the other bits you end up needing to buy (all expensive): nice dress shoes, cuff links, nice dress socks, ties, nice shirt.
Personally, I love the way I look in a suit. And I enjoy that people look at you differently since a suit screams status.
But for a low paying job, it's a huge percentage of your income and not worth it.
The problem is that as a developer you're screwed either way.
If you require login via a common platform (facebook, google+, etc), people will whine about yet another service that has access to their facebook.
OTOH, if you don't have access via a common platform, you make it more difficult for people to find each other in game, and people will whine that even though it's multiplayer, it's impossible to find your friends.
In Europe and Asia there are already services like this. The service has a link with the restaurant. So if you send in the order, they send their order into the restaurant (or call it in). Then when your food is ready a guy on a motorcycle comes in, picks it up, and the store settles up later.
At no point in time is your delivery guy waiting 30 minutes on line.
Plus there is generally a delivery charge (or the restaurant gives up a cut). If each delivery is $5, zipping around from house to house would be a very good job if it's organized correctly.
Yeah but this fails to address the point of which requires more upkeep: Microsoft or Linux.
It's been my experience that Linux is easier to administer (at least at scale) than Windows. Therefore, your argument adds to the fact that a switch to OSS would benefit the city.
Mom: (looking at my speedometer) "Stop going so fast!" Me: "Mom the speed limit is 130" Mom: "That's unsafe! Go 60" Me: "It's KPH not MPH. 100 KPH == 60 MPH" Mom: "Well it doesn't matter. 120 just sounds too fast. Go 60"
Why is it we charge people for extra leg room but we don't charge people for the right to recline? Reclining is more of a pain to the person behind you then not reclining is to the person in front. And simply many airline seats are just really too small to allow people to recline, so why not reverse it that if you need an extra 5 degrees declination (I certainly don't) then you have to pay for it?
Plus, the extra seat room isn't just a few extra bucks, but it can be + 50% or more of your ticket price. Which doesn't make sense because these seats don't take up an extra 50% profile. I'm taking up max +20% more space, and I don't bring on more weight (e.g. baggage) so the extra cost does not make sense.
I'm also 6'3" and no one can recline. Literally on some planes there just isn't space.
But instead of being a jack ass, I politely explain my legs don't allow enough room to recline. Then I (helpfully) ask if maybe they'd like to switch seats. Which allows them to put the seat I'm in back, and I can recline onto them.
Sure I could just be the world's biggest dick. But what does that get me? I have to sit by these people for the entire flight. And if I get someone who's really feisty, apparently they can turn the plane around.
Sure, you can fight it, but the sad fact of the matter is it'll take so much time and effort to clear your good name that unless you're making minimum wage, it's far cheaper just to pay the hush money.

So why doesn't he just say that instead of the verbal diarrhea ?
What about roads? Schools? Sewage? Water?

Everyone has the potential to be a high performer, of course.
FTFY
Suits wear the same way jeans and other pieces of clothing do.
Yes, sometimes they can be repaired, but if the tear is in the wrong place, the suit is ruined.
And, yes, I've worked in jobs where I had to wear suits regularly, and I wore good suits not just any suit.
Could it not also be that people who want to really understand computer architecture better take obscure classes like COBOL, and being better programmers make more money?
Bull.

In the Netherlands you'll see lots of Dutchies (in very expensive suits) riding bikes around.
It's not a big deal if your suit has been tailored correctly.
Any job interview I walk into with someone with such a self righteous attitude, I walk out.
Hiring is a two way street: management picks the employees they want, but employees would be smart to pick the team they want to be on.

You don't call Nature a credible source?
And you trust the cashier making $3 an hour after taxes not to be stealing your controlled substances?
So long as the bags are sealed in the pharmacy and the contents are not noted on the outside, it should be fine.

At some point I moved to Europe.
This exchange really took place:
Mom: (looking at my speedometer) "Stop going so fast!"
Me: "Mom the speed limit is 130"
Mom: "That's unsafe! Go 60"
Me: "It's KPH not MPH. 100 KPH == 60 MPH"

If I have to pull my knees up to my chest (which hurts on a long haul flight) maybe we can bind your knees to your chest as well?

It's important to be nice about the issue.

If you watch the video, there's a part where molten rock spatters out to one side, and were they standing in that spot they would have been hit.
In another part, a red hot rock (600 C) hit quite close to them and they took a heat reading.
They weren't bathing in the magma but they came pretty damned close to it (definitely in the danger zone)
Remember when Hurricane Sandy came through and flooded all the data centers in NYC?
There were all kinds of stories about how the fuel was in the basement for safety, but that was the first place to flood
Is it normal to have liquid nitrogen stored up high?
Seems kind of dangerous and that this stuff would be buried in the ground (as people would do with a tank of diesel, for instance)

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

No silly. If you blast magnets through your brain you'll destroy your brain tissue.
Much better to go put your head on the track of a mag lev train. Your brain tissue will be fine and you'll get super magnetic field strength
Mod parent up.
