  1. Re:serves them right on Verizon Clogged With Tons Of Spam · · Score: 1

Just because you get spam on that account doesn't mean they are selling your address to spammers.

Any large company with a well-known domain name (aol.com, msn.com, home.com, hotmail.com, etc.) has so many damn e-mail addresses that some spamming programs use brute force to just guess addresses in that domain.

I would imagine that had your e-mail address been sold to a spam list or got there some other way, you would getting more spam than just "every now and then".

Just FYI, in IE 5.5 on Windows 98 you can resize the "Organize favorites" window. There's no minimize or maximize button, but you can click and drag the edges.

I'm only sure about 5.5 on 98, because that's what I have here in front of me.

  5. Can't download on Netscape 6.0 Released · · Score: 1

There's no mention of 6.0 non-beta on their web site, and the latest version on their downloads page as of 4:40am central is still 4.76.

I tried connecting to their FTP, but I get "permission denied" when I try to go to the 6.0 directory.

    What gives?
    Accidental leak?
Slashdot guys just messing with us?

Or am I just too tired to figure this out at 4:40am?

I hate to be the one to point it out, because I like having karma, but you neglected to mention that some folks may have moved from SCO to say.... Windows NT?

I know no one likes to hear that, and neither do I, but some companies are going for Windows-Only networks. It hurts me to see my company moving to an Outlook/Exchange server, running our Intranet on IIS and running our file servers with file and printer sharing.

I don't want to be the devil's advocate here, but I think it's important to realize some companys are dumping SCO and *nix completely. Their loss I guess.

What does that mean? I'm sure there are other people around here who wonder the same thing.

Any information on that would be helpful

  8. Defeats the purpose of vinyl on Two Turntables and a Laser Beam · · Score: 1

I know a lot of people who insist that vinyl sounds better than CD's (providing the record is totally clean and scratch free).

They say this because they feel in some cases the conversion to digital format and back looses some of the original recording.

Digital formats have sampling rate and frequency limitations which, for the most part, will reproduce perfectly most sounds/music.

LP's don't have these limitations, so record enthusiasts buy their music on vinyl.

Therefore, reading the grooves of a record with a laser would completely defeat the purpose of vinyl.

I personally collect vinyl just because it's neat to have, and it's kind of old school. If I wanted to go out and buy new music, I'd probably buy a cd anyway.

  10. How stupid is this, really? on Nintendo Sued Over Pokemon Gambling Addiction · · Score: 1

Here's an idea for the parents:

Instead of suing the compnay that makes the ABSOLUTELY HARMLESS product, my not just NOT LET YOUR KIDS BUY THEM?

It seems that more and more parents are blaming companies for making things they object to rather than just trying to keep their own kids away from it.

It's not enough that only my kid isn't allowed to use Pokemon cards, I have to end all pokemon cards!

If they win it will set a **horrible** precendent for future equally dumb lawsuits.

Remember Southpark the movie? Remember when they blamed Canada for making the movie rather than preventing their kids from watching it? Same deal, only a lot more stupid (and funny).
