So don't even get a driver's license. Don't let the government get ahold of a single piece of information about you. Live in a cabin in the woods. Just don't complain when I can have all the comforts of modern technology and you have to stuff your money under your mattress.

I have no drivers license, yet i legally drive (on gov roads) a modified Kawasaki ninja 500 which consumes no petroleum. (the "legal" part is possible across the whole USA but only easy in a few areas)

I have 40 acres of wireless network. (in the woods with the cabin).

I do not give up a comfort to live on my own terms. My own terms require comfort :)

Is it comforting to create a mindless organism that feeds off you?

The Bible was compiled 300-400 years after Jesus by the Romans. Many texts were considered for the Bible. The ones we know today were selected and edited for the usefulness of their stories not the truthfulness of the tale. Having said that; watching thinking bags of dirt ask for proof of "God" is one of the most surreal and ironic experiences we as humans have to look forward to

It's the old lady with her new computer and AOL account who gets bitten.

Companies who wish to prevent this fraud need to inform their customers, and not just with little phrases here and there (ebay) that most "old ladies" won't understand/remember. Then they need to give customers an incentive to protect themselves by not paying for their mistakes. As it stands, i think companies should reimburse any victims because they haven't been well informed of the risks.

If i stop giving someone money, am I ripping them off?

It really seams like the world is brainwashed. Music flourishes for hundreds of years and when it gets sold on little disks we are told we must pay for it or it will "dissapear". Same thing with any copyright. Music, Movies, Books, Software etc were created free, they won't go away if no one pays for them (though i bet Brittney Spears, Angelina Jolie, L Ron Hubbard, and Microsoft would!).

If they track you down in the US, you can be prosecuted under US laws for breach of copyright

not quite. there is no "breach of copyright", as everything is done legally. If you bought a bootleg VCD in Tiwan and then brought it home, you could get in trouble. But if you buy a legit VCD and bring it home it's totally legal, even if the VCD company has undercut US prices drastically.

In AllofMP3's situation, they have purchased a Russian broadcasting license of some sort. From what i understand it is basically a flat fee and not based on the number of items (songs). This lets them sell songs for just over bandwidth costs and still make money.

I would agree totally that the artists see next to nill from this. BUT if you want to support the artists you listen to, simply send them a donation. No money gets lost to middlemen (except a few cents to AOMP3) like the RIAA.
