You misunderstand. 40% less for a pension plan is BAD, not good.

I take 20% of my salary now and save it away. It has grown to about $100,000. If I had a job in Canada, that would mean I would only have $60,000 saved up isntead of $100,000.

YEs, moving to Canada after you retire makes a lot of sense, but to anyone that is currently saving to retire, it makes FAR more sense to get the higher paying job.

If I lived in Toronto I could only go tango dancing 5 days a week, not 7. And I would not have choice of Milongas. I would HAVE to own a car, and have to worry about how I am getting home when I am drunk because your public transportation system is not as good as NYC's, especially late at night. You do have some nice plays and museums, but NYC has a slight edge there.

While in New York City, I have NEVER, NOT ONCE, seen a gun in the hands of anyone except a NYC cop. NYC is currently one of the safest cities in North America, and like you said , you we have to compare Toronto to NYC, not general Canada to general USA.

Canada is a nice place to retire too, but I wouldn't want to work there.

    1) The choice is NOT fast food or another programming job. I am a smart person, as are most of the programmers. I can easily get another tech job in NYC paying 20% less than I make now. It might not be as nice a job, but it is a tech job. The economy in the US is not bad, but not HORRIBLE. If you can't get another tech job if you are willing to take a 30% pay cut, then you are either a well trained moron, or getting WAY over-paid.

    2) I am young and put a large percentage of my paycheck into the bank for retirement funds, etc. 40% less pay check with 40% less costs of living, STILL COSTS ME 40% OF MY RETIREMENT FUNDS. If you have enough brains to save money for retirement, you have to be pretty stupid to take the 40% less job even with the cost of living reduction.

3)Living in NYC has it's own advantages. Here, I can go Tango Dancing every day of the week, see the best museums, never have to drive the death machine we call an automobile, can go out drinking without worrying about how I am getting home, can see world class plays, theater, etc. etc. etc. Living in Canada would be a marked decrease in my Life Style. It might be OK for people that don;t care about this kind of stuff, but not for me.

More importantly, Lazer tag usually is a dual system: a red light beam used SOLELY for sighting purporses, and a radio wave that goes through things like your shirt, etc. to hit the sensor. even if you try and cheat.

Mirrors bounce the light beam but at most will block the radio wave, not bounce it off of you.

For simple ways to increase your lazer tag fun, you can try the following. 1) Turn up the volume. Make the vest SCREAM in pain when you are hit. 2) Get more sensors. Shoulders, chest and back are fine, but how about a head shot for extra points. 3) Go for mines, as disccussed earlier.

I am not trying to remove text, just not use it for stupid awkward kludges. I am going to continue to use text for the areas appropriate for it.

Example, say we had a Perl Reg Ex. Instead of a command that looks like this:

    ( $doc = $dos_location ) =~ s%\\00\d\\?%%;

I could have something that had

$doc-(double box with text in it )-$dos_location The left box would have nothing in it [as the reg-ex is deleting stuff] and the right box would have a \00(one character symbol obtained by control d meaning any digit)\(one chacter symbol obtained by control ? meaning 0 or 1).

That would be FAR easier to read and understand. You have end result variable, connected by line to the reg ex, then the change made then the thing changed using symbols that are NOT confusable with normal letters/punctuation, then the connection to the starting variable.

There are basically three types of taxes:

Income taxe, that taxes you as you get the money.

Possesion taxes which tax you on what you have, even if you are not spending it.

Outgo taxes which tax you on what you spend.

Outgo taxes encourage savings, discourage spending, which runs counter to the consumption based philosophy our society is based on. It is a tax on the poor, as the poor do not have enough cash to save, thereby a larger portion of their money is taxed. The rich simply spend a far less percentage of their money, so they end up being taxed less.

Possesion tax, discourages savings - if you spend what you have instead of saving it, the government never taxes you. Smart people would go on lots of trips when they are young, never letting the government see the 10,000 bonus they earned. Unforunately this seriously hurts people that want to retire and live off of savings. Again this tax affects the poor people the most, preventing them from making the change from poor to rich. While the rich do tend to get taxed the most, they generally have enough money to avoid being seriously harmed while the poor/middle class have a HUGE road block on the way to becoming rich.

Income taxes encourages people to save what they earn, thereyby helping people become rich. While it does not hurt the rich the most, it is the best for poor folk, as they can both get taxed less than the rich folk and do not have a roadblock stopping them from becoming richer themselves.
