Considering that DOOM ran at, what, 60 FPS on a 486 SX 33Mhz with the DOOM graphics quality set to high and at the largest screen size it supported, it's not really that impressive.

So, its effectively just a money making ploy to screw more hard earned cash out of consumers. MW3 NEEDS to be perfect for players to want/need to pay for yet another service on top of the predicted DLCs.....

People had a shit-fit when Team Fortress 2 added a store where you could buy items for real money... keeping in mind that you can get the non-cosmetic items* as a random drop, through trading, or from crafting from extra copies of other weapons.

Had Google actually released this and advertised it, pushed it, and tried to have it used everywhere, then I would see why this discussion is even happening at all.

All I see is a bunch of people overreacting to some random project that someone at Google put together.

Did you not even read the summary of the article you're responding to?

Google has added WebP support to Chrome and Picassa already. This isn't some "random project that someone at Google put together," it's appearing in their mainline software and web application products.

Furthermore, Google hasn't given a good reason why web browsers should adopt this over other formats, such as ISO/IEC 29199-2 (aka JPEG XR) which Microsoft has been pushing into its own products (Windows Vista/7, IE9, Office 2010, .NET 3+)... and Mozilla has also likely declined to add to Firefox.

The thing about opinions is that everyone's opinion is different.

For example, I think arena_sawmill (and ctf_sawmill) is a complete piece of crap; ravine and lumberyard are the only decent arena maps.

Some other Valve maps that I like weren't shipped with the game: ctf_well, koth_nucleus, ctf_doublecross (IMO, easily the game's best and most balanced ctf map), pl_upward (IMO the game's best pl map), plr_hightower, and cp_degrootkeep.

Then again, maybe you haven't even played the last 3 of those maps, as they were added after you stopped playing regularly (see my previous point about you being wrong about Valve not adding new maps).

There are also some passable maps that I'll vote for if none of the above are present in a map vote: cp_mountainlab, cp_gorge, cp_5gorge, plr_pipeline, and pl_thundermountain.

Even some of the community maps are really good, such as cp_steel, koth_harvest, cp_freight_final, cp_coldfront_final, and pl_frontier_final.
