Exactly. Everyone one is freaking out about Microsoft making the desktop look cool by using 3D abilities of graphics cards, when all the users they need to do to go back to "normal" windows is bring up disaply properties and disable the effects or change theme. Gee, Microsoft sucks.
Why don't you just bring up display properties and disable the effects if you don't want them?
Personally, I'd like to see my graphics card being used to make the desktop look cool. I'd also like the option to disable the effects if needed (like Windows allows).
Interesting, never heard of Fractal image compression:

Fractal Basics
A fractal is a structure that is made up of similar forms and patterns that occur in many different sizes. The term fractal was first used by Benoit Mandelbrot to describe repeating patterns that he observed occurring in many different structures. These patterns appeared nearly identical in form at any size and occurred naturally in all things. Mandelbrot also discovered that these fractals could be described in mathematical terms and could be created using very small and finite algorithms and data.
Let's look at a real-world example. If you look at the surface of an object such as the floor currently beneath your feet, you will notice that there are many repeating patterns in its texture. The floor's surface may be wood, concrete, tile, carpet, or even dirt, but it still contains repeating patterns ranging in size from very small to very large.
If we make a copy of a small part of the floor's surface and compare it to every other part of the floor, we would find several areas that are nearly identical in appearance to our copy. If we change the copy slightly by scaling, rotating, or mirroring it, we can make it match even more parts of the floor. Once a match is found, we can then create a mathematical description of our copy, including any alterations we have made, and can store it, and the location of all of the parts of the floor it matches, as data.
If we repeat this process for the entire floor, we will end up with a set of mathematical equations called fractal codes that describe the entire surface of the floor in terms of its fractal properties. These mathematical equations can then be used to recreate an image of the entire floor.
etc...
tsumanis, icebergs, mudslides and giant asteroids on a collision course with earth have happened all the time in the past, except people have never heard about them. Now thanks to instant and easy global communication, recording equipment that is cheap and common, mixed up with media that likes to keep populations paranoid, you hear all about it!
Thankyou, thankyou, THANKYOU! I've just found the site that works going to pay me for spending the rest of my Friday on! I just LOVE the second video (and site it links to) "kilroy - if men had boobs.mpg"
Hmm, he says that there are thousands of sites in google that come up if you search for "wikipedia sucks" - Actually there are only 152 pages when I search.
There are 505 sites that come up if you search for "wikipedia rules", however.
You need to think outside the US. Now if broadcasters continued screening shows on TV, just as they usually do, PLUS they allowed you to download episodes for $1 as soon as they are broadcasted on TV (in the US), then you would get a lot of people from other countries downloading the episodes as well. E.g. people download from suprnova.org because it takes weeks for the episodes to come out in their countries.
Yeah, I suppose broadcasters in other countries would see a decline in viewer numbers... But you have already made $1 (which is what, 50p now?!) off those people.
How come a HDD with several platters still haven't reached 500GB yes (that I'm aware of), but a "DVD" recorded with light can!? I would've thought that the lazer would've been much wider than the magnetic tracks on a HDD platter.
Is it simply because a DVD is a lot wider than a HDD platter?
Similar to me, I have my PC all quietened down sitting near to my TV and stereo. TV out of my Radeon 9800 into my TV, Audigy 2 output to my stereo. I then run a 6 meter SVGA cable around the room to my TFT - no ghosting, good quality cable that I brought off of eBay.
I also run 6 meter keyboard, mouse and 3 headphone extension cords around the room (I have a Zalman surround sound headphone).
All sound like a mass of cables, and it was, but I've tied them all together, so looks nice.
No ghosting and no hissing in headphones because I've kept all the power cables seperated from data cables and use quality power regulator.
Great sitting back in your armchair with your TFT/keyboard sitting to one side, watching what you've downloaded from suprnova on the big screen, then flicking over to the TFT for a game of Doom 3 when you've finished watching.
I can recommend that setup, rather than trying to find more technical solutions.

Actually, it's NZ$89.95, which works out to be around the same price as you can get it for in the UK (~£33) off amazon.co.uk or play.com
I disagree! You don't have to put the infrastructure in place if you advertise a video iPod which can "play back videos you've taken with your camera/video camera, alongside the photos you've taken", which is what I'd use it for when showing my Grandma! Yeah, and of course I'd like it to play back all my downloads from suprnova.org.

Just chill. You'll die when you die.
Fantastic.
With suggestions like that you're a spammer, aren't you... go on, you can tell me, I won't tell anyone else :-)

Just say it's for PowerPoint presentations.
Ahh and when they arrive you'll then have to wait for the ones that can record 500Gb on "DVD's"... so how is your 486 going these days?! :-)

Happy Birthday, from a Kiwi in London! Oops, it's now tomorrow for you, oh well! :-)
The cave you are in must be very deep, unless that was some very poor attempt at humour on your behalf?
Personally, I'm more interested in what it can do, not if it simply works or not.
Um, what are you talking about? The article is about Windows XP MCE, not those Media Devices.
Some nice photos, RUINED by you turning on the date/time feature of your camera! A shame.
1. Plug the TV out of your graphics card into your TV
2. Download what you want from suprnova.org, well before it come out in countries outside the US
3. Watch just what you want, when you want, before everyone else!

I got that error too, 1GB, damn, I don't want to have to increase my laptop's C partition to accommodate that!
You should be able to adjust the sensitivity of your touchpad on your laptop, so you have to press harder to make it register your finger!
I LOVE the spec's on the OLED, Response time of 0.01 Mil. sec!!! Contrast ratio of 1000:1, sweeeet.
Gee, at my magical non-tech web site I get 100% bollocks browser, 0% IE!
