I'm surprised to see school age kids reading slashdot! Good on ya. What do you want to be when you grow up, a programmer?! Just as a warning, not all those fresh out of School programming jobs are the star studded affairs involving driving to work Jaguar's every day... you'll have to work a few years first:-)
Um, have you ever thought of watching last nights / mornings news/sports on your daily commute? What about simpsons/south park/etc, etc? Or do you live in America and don't know what transport to work without a car is;-)
A pulse has to be there?! Stink if your internet connection or server at the other end goes down then. No movies for the entire cinema. Doesn't seem like a very cleaver idea.
Yeah, I agree with most of what you've said about average people not knowing, but I'm pretty sure he would notice a HD picture even with no comparison. I was wandering past a store in America one of the last times I was over and saw a decent quality HD TV showing a football match and it knocked my socks off. Like looking through a window.
Ahh, hell! Don't worry, VNC hosts the java applet itself! Just need to go to http://:5800/ which the VNC server is running on (making sure you've ticked the box in VNC options to Serve the Java viewer via HTTP on whatever port you want, 5800 by default)
Ha ha! You're gonna get hammered for that comment. The people who voted for Bush are the people more likely not to have a computer (or know what one is). Just look at what proportion of people in the big cities that voted for Bush compared to the southern central states.
Are there any Slashdotters reading this who voted for Bush? Why? I'm actually interested...
Wow, that's one of the more well thought out arguments with rock solid reasoning that I've ever read in a slashdot post for not buying an iPod! Well done, sir, thanks for your enlightenment.
Yeah, I agree. I saw this at Harrods a few months ago. Looks impressive, especially with the huge clear speakers on each side, but I wasn't impressed with the washed out picture quality. I'd spend that sorta money on a kick ass plasma or LCD in a heartbeat. There was a crowd around it when I saw it because it is novel looking.
Basically, it's designed for companies to put in waiting rooms to make them look cool. That sorta thing.
It's sure not "3D" looking in any way, as the "holographic" word used to describe it suggests.
Interesting, I looked up my US office address (in Springfield, VA, seeing as it doesn't map anywhere else in the world) and it showed all the shops around the area, contact details etc, but didn't show the Metro line stations!
Yes, I know Americans don't use public transport, but it would be nice for tourists, etc.
What do you mean, in what way is it slow for you? What spec machine are you running XP on? Have you turned off all the XP effects to see if it speeds up for you?
I run XP on a 900Mhz laptop just fine. Yeah it can slow down after 6 months or more once all the useless junk I've installed on it starts filling up the registry:-). I think a clean install of XP rockets along.
Also, check out disabling some services or scanning your system for spyware.
One of the reasons I'm still in the UK! Small reason (main reason is sweet job, ay bro! They are paying for my 2Mb/s unlimited line), but damned if I don't like downloading/uploading 3GB+ per day of torrent data (which still isn't maxing out my connection). Yeah, I know the chances of me watching it all are slim, but it's a collectors hobby (to always have something I want to watch at any time).
Then again, my mates in Korea laugh at the slow speed we have in the UK...
Apple dump AAC? So you think it would be better if the 200 million songs they have sold on iTunes didn't work with the iPod any more and the iPod supported LESS formats? Mental, think before you start typing. As for OGG, what online music stores sell music in that format? Personally I'll stick to high bit-rate mp3 which can play on almost anything, including future Sony products by the sounds of it!
Now get out of the computer room and go to your maths class this instant!:-)
Ahh, that's pretty damn cool. I like the heavier "version" of clear type that you can select in the wizard, otherwise it actually look harder on my eyes (I've never used it before because of that)!
Yeah, thought as much. I've been reading Custom PC (UK magazine) and they have pretty objectionable reviews towards both. Both chips have their strong points, but AMD is better for games, which is where speed counts as far as I'm concerned, I don't mind if ripping my CD takes a few more seconds, as long as my game speeds along. Saying all that, I've got an Intel chip in my aging pc.
Where are your facts to support this? I am actually interested as to why AMD machines are unstable for games, I thought they where much better than Intel for that, and Intel is much better than AMD for video processing sorta tasks (due to long pipeline).

Hey, if you don't mind telling, were did you get your Java vnc applet from?

Then don't select those menu options! Probably cost you more to get a phone with those options taken out these days too...
4) Download and skip over the intro with the "slider"
What, are you living on the Moon or something?! :-)
Perhaps you should consider the UN Kyoto Protocol on global warming. Lets see, who's the world biggest polluter and who decided not to join? Hmmm...
Make it work with every other Instant message service, like MSN for starters (seeing as it's installed on most windows boxes).
Yeah, or how crap written words translate into speach.

My god, I'm not sure if you're serious about pointing out that it's a fake, or you're just trying to be funny... :-)
Amusing how you posted anonymously. I think original poster is a 15 year old Linux geek...

Wow, and just think how the "technology world" 10 years ago was basically identical. I think they could've used a better phrase here.
