He had a meeting with survivors from Florida. Some of the people there were talking about video game violence irrc. He more-or-less echoed what they said in a sympathetic way, because it wasn't really a time to tell people they were wrong. The more relevant point is that he wants to allow teachers to get training and carry concealed weapons.
So, I started watching "Wonder Woman", and stopped in disgust - not because of the woman empowerment, whatever that is, but because of how it shat all over World War I history, because of how ignorant it was of any historical martial arts, and because of how plot-hole-riddled it was.
You just have to let go. Every plot has holes, but some of them have good stuff also, you have to look for the good stuff. In Wonderwoman (there was nothing realistic about a movie featuring the God of War) the philosophy was deeper than in any movie we've seen for a long time. It presented a full awareness of the evilness of both sides in a conflict.
"If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence." --Justice Sanford.
Oppressing speech with censorship, even if the speech is made of lies, will never be effective, and can easily make the problem worse. If good people are not willing to speak up, then there is no hope for the country.
Also building codes are iterative. "the next one happens" and will always happen. The key part is the rate at which they have happened and are happening continues to decline.
Note this is also true of monetary policy and recessions. In the 70s, they were still trying horrible things like price controls.
Well, if you want to say "support any gun control measure" then yes, you can select measures that 90% of Americans will support. Unfortunately the measures in that survey would be less effective (notably the gun show loophole. Criminals don't seem to buy their guns at gun shows for some reason......probably because they are able to pass a background check or get them from someone who can).
In the past couple of decade I've never been through any situation where I've been thinking I'm lucky/happy to have a gun because it really saved the situation, or thinking that I wish I could have had one.
Guns don't seem fundamentally important and useful objects in everyday life. They mostly bring in a danger and useless risk without bringing much benefit.
This is basically the center of the argument. People who use guns oppose gun control, and people who don't use them favor gun control (generally speaking). We come up with a lot of reasons to justify our opinions, but that's what it boils down to.
You can get one of these portable stove tops and that should solve your heating problems at least. I'm going through a similar situation right now............
The 2016 model was the one which forced me to switch to a Dell Precision running Ububtu. It's got it's share of quirks, but nothing like the clusterfuck of apple's hardware and software.
A year and change in, and I'm more happy with this than I was with my old 2012 MBP.
I have followed the exact same path. Couldn't be happier with Linux.
Yeah, you're trying to justify advertising. Either you really suck at programming (and need to get better at reading documentation), or you need to find a better way of making a living.
Or not, you can just keep being a sucky person. That's fine too, I don't care.
What do you do for a living, and to what sources do you refer if you have a question about something?
I get paid because I am able to read documentation. There are programmers who would be lost without Stack Overflow, but the world would be far better off if they learned how to read documentation.
Also I want to point out there were forums and such, without ads, before Stack Overflow.
That is probably acceptable (although JPEG and PNG can still contain malware, it is a lot harder).
I really think advertising has been a net negative thing for the internet. It causes so much trash content to be created, content whose entire purpose is grabbing your attention, even if it has to deceive and abuse you in order to do so. Advertising just pushes the quality of everything down, I say that both as a user and having worked for an advertising company. They don't care about the content, they care about making advertisers happy.
Before getting too smug... take a look at what is happening in Europe with Uber/Lyft.
What is happening?
These Slashdot articles are always filled with people who've never taken an economics class. Don't try to make stuff up, read a book.
Because it's strong evidence that FISA courts are a joke and should be illegal.
Wow no, Facebook's origins were based around abusing the users. From the very beginning.
You need to clear your mind, dude. The problem with a sun shade isn't the cost.
In fairness, Greek society really did go downhill, and humanity entered into a period of dark ages.
Do note that 3 meter rise, however. I'm not sure whether or not that's enough to flood the San Joaquin valley,
No, not even close, actually.
The current state is bad enough that "launching a solar sun shade" is starting to look reasonable,
No, it's not. Seriously, your post is borderline irrational hysteria.

I think it's easiest to 'plateau' after losing 30 pounds, let your body adjust to its new weight, and then after that have another go at losing more.

Note: "the Left" only wants to stop populism when it's against them. Just like "the Right"
I'm not sure what the solution is

Most of those will run in Wine, fwiw.
Also it depends on what you call "Windows software". You won't have great success with consumer software on the GUI stack
I just want to point out that the latest version of Wine is working really well here.
, I honestly hadn't put much thought into the notch. I've been using the Iphone 10 since December and find zero issues with the notch.
That's because you don't have to do any extra work to support it. App developers do.

or the article not existing in the first place because the publisher went bankrupt.
It's amazing how much time this would give me back in my life.
