they're not claimin it as innovation; they are just happy that a bigger browser than Opera has it, and is using it. Nothing against Opera at all, but i believe that Mozilla/FF has a tad bit bigger userbase than Opera. That helps it get into the mainstream population.
no, this is more alongs the lines of the car manufacturer owning the auto parts stores. but, in this case, the manufacturer is not responsible for the parts, even though they own them, and you wouldnt actually "own" the parts, but pay a susbscription for. hey, maybe i could afford a new transmission then!:)
"The result of this kind of thinking is giving users a whole bunch of 'special' directories like 'my documents' and 'my music' which falsely imply there's anything really special about them."
Those "special" directories that you speak of are also in every other current OS: Windows, Mac, and various linux distros. FYI: Windows, by default, saves to "My Documents", and Mac saves to your user directory.
10 million and counting. i would say they are doing pretty good. and, with these new products (hardware and software), they will reach more customers in more income brackets.
Open Office would be a good program, but if you are looking for Aqua/Cocoa integration, then you will need to turn to MS Office, for the near future. OOo runs in X11 on the Mac, and that's it. On their FAQ, they dont plan on having Aqua integration until after OOo 2.0 comes out. It would be nice to have a office suite that worked prefectly with AppleScript (MS Office does, but is very primitive).
you have a point, but apparently you didnt read the article. He didnt work on the security aspect of it; he was on the dev team for IE4 and IE5. He does have some good ideas, and i would like to see a couple of those come to fruition. As he states in the article, he left the IE dev team before he could complete any of these ideas, and apparently his suggestions went unheeded. so, in this case, dont blame him, blame the vendor.:)
This is a sad day for gaming in general. To drop support of a viable platform for monetary reasons is ir purely a financial move on GameSpy's part. They basically dont want to spend the time and/or money supporting a platform--granted, that platform is small, but that is still your customerbase youre fucking with.
Yes, i know platforms range--ps2, xbox, gamecube, DS, cellular, etc. PC and Mac run on the same TCP protocol, just different internal programming (just like all platforms, after i think about it).,br>
If they are dropping supprot for a (fledging?) platform, then they might as well do it for Gamecube (Network adapter? whats that?), or even PS2, since it seems that it does not have the same online userbase as the xbox.
why isnt there a competitor to GameSpy? At least, one that is just as popular?
i am seriously sick of this shit. I know i will lose mod points, but that's fine.
When will the American public wake up and realize that they have a choice? You have a choice in everything you do: wake up, go to work, eat, listen to whatever music you want to, and in regard to this article, you can watch whatever you want to.
Along the same lines, you have the choice of controlling the TV. But please understand this: There are Family channels, religious channels, porn channels, movie channels, music channels, news channels, food channels, etc, etc, etc. for all the people out there in the whole wide world. But, *you* have the choice of watching these channels. If you dont like what is on, then please change it, because someone somewhere might like it. I myself would rather have my children watch smut than violence.
Along with this, this means that you will have to actually pay attention to what your family and/or children are watching. If you dont agree with something or dont like a show, then please change the channel.
I am not pro- or anti-smut/violence/profanity/religion; i am pro-choice. take that away, and you take away Freedom.
This does not sound like a Mac Zealot to me, and they do have a valid point. Steve Jobs has done quite a bit with Apple. Maybe not in the past year, but overall has turned the company around. So, he might not have made the list, but dont get angry at the poster.
xul is cross platform. Granted, you need to install a "reader" for it (mozilla, gecko, firefox, etc), but you need to for some other languages too (flash, shockwave, the different C's, etc).
Plus, xul accepts javascript and html, so if someone knows those, then the can build upon their skills.

welcome our new RFID overlords.

you should really sign up for Geocities Pro, if you're going to have slashdot traffic. :)

obviously, you have not heard of the iPod....

maybe you should look into this:

Portable Firefox: http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox
FYI, the zip is just like the installer, just not automatic. after unzipping, it is 15.2mb. But, it will run just fine; even my xul pages work.

You have to ask yourself, "Is this good for the company?"
