  1. Re:profit. on Mighty Amazon · · Score: 1

I could be wrong, but back when I bought my 5 Amazon stocks (about 2.5 years ago) Amazon's book business was already profitable, the company as a whole wasn't because Jeff was looking down the road, spending the money made in the profitable parts to establish Amazon in other areas.
It seems like that strategy is working, and my stock is finally worth what I paid for it, more than I can say for every other stock I own.

The problem with this is, simplifying for the sake of argument, people genreally learn to be moral during childhood through a system of just rewards and punishments. Which points up the real questions: How do you spank a computer? How do you give a computer a gold star?

You started out soo good, talking about creating an intelligence that chooses to be moral. Then you go and blow it with talk about spanking a computer. Damn, I would hate for my children to grow up to be moral just to avoid spanking. That's the society today, people don't take responsibility and the only thing stopping them from commiting crimes is the fact that the police are watching.
Reason, logic and reality are so much better as a basis of ethics. Teach them to your children (real and AI).

    I'm sorry to hear that.
Democrats WILL find other rights to trample when in office, they have in the past and they will in the future. Your taxes WILL go up, your property rights (via environmental legislation) will get shot, what little choice you have in education will be less
How does voting for the left totalitarians instead of the right totalitarians help further the cause of liberty?
If all the libertarians in the country voted democrat the next election the effects would be small, If libertarians actually voted libertarian next election the effects would be significant (as a step in the right direction). We make a much stronger force (currently) as spoilers than as swing voters.
I AM voting Libertarian (assuming, of course, the LP candidate is acceptable)

Sounds good, only one caveat. How would the owners of the movie's copyrights ensure the quality of their product? Will Netflix also print the case inserts? Though they can't guarantee that a movie hasn't been scratched, it'd be a little harder to guarantee that the movie was burned properly and that the rest of the movie "experience" (the case, liner notes, etc) were as the "artists" intended. Of course, proper audits could be put in place to solve this.

    • Contracting speaks about how you are charging and agreeing to do a job: under a contract. You may be a contract programmer, contract dba, contract graphic administrator and even a contract consultant.

Your vote is small enough as it is, don't make it smaller by voting for the wrong person
And my final argument against the "wasted vote" is: if the race is so one-sided that the rep (or dem) is a clear winner, why not vote for whom you want, since it doesn't matter. If the race is so close that your vote does matter, why not send the message that supports liberty?
The LP has lately taken the stand that they WANT to be spoilers, if they can get enough votes to swing the election (and often it just takes a few %) then they are THE force to contend with.

I believe that all those courses in logic, math, etc. (not to mention those on ethics, philosophy, humanities, for those attending actual Universities) make a huge difference in the way a person works, behaves and yes...programs.
