Lately many things have happened to apple, and if you take a brief look at thir lineup of both computers and gadgets you'll find that they are not dependent on anyone the same way they depended on motorola. The music industry for iMS, AMD for the chips in the airport base station (and the iPod(?) don't know), Motorola for the non-pro lineup (iMacG4, iBook and the portables until they get 970), etc. etc.
I think Apple will go a long way to make sure they don't get stuck with one provider.
Also I think they are trying to be more competitive pricewise. By having a steady stream of income from selling iPods and songs via iMS, they get more money to develop hardware and software, and we just might get Powermacs970 below the $3k mark.
One of the biggest newspapers in Norway, where I live, has recently said they believe blogs to be the new 'killer app' for delivering information on the net. The problem with that is that the treshold for publishing 'news' is so low, anybody can do it. This makes it very difficult for people to find the info they are looking for. At the same time there is no guaranty the info is useful or even correct. A good reputation will be more and more important for businesses and sites on the net.
This move by google tells me newspapers in norway aren't the only ones seeing how influental blogs will/could become. This is a truly great step forward if Google could come up with a way of rating the different blogs. That way you could easily find serious tech-blogs.
Has anybody noticed that whenever Apple is doing something new and getting some attention, the trolls come pouring out from under the rocks? Lately many different mac-sites on the web has experienced trouble with underaged trolls who have nothing better to do than posting anonymously and cowardly
The Marathon trilogy from bungie (the first Marathon game in particular). The first time I bumped into a compiler I promtly quit the game.
Gravity Force on Amiga. Me and 2 friends lived in an apartment for a year and we played Gravity Force most of the time...
Cosmic Osmo and The Worlds beyond the macerel (or something), was also a hit with me. The fact that it was made entirely in Hypercard was very cool. Playing the game (b/w) was like entering another world which leads me to
Another world on amiga. Amazing gameplay and (at the time) dazzling graphics.
And finally, Impact on the amiga. The best(!) breakout game ever. Houndreds of levels, level-editor, haunting sounds that I remember to this day. If you like that sort of game then I would urge you to test Pop-pop from Ambrosia. A new twist on the old break-out genre. It's like playing street fighter, only with a ball, a paddle and bricks. It's being ported to windows, so I hope i'll see more pop-players at the tracker...:)
I've got a PowerMac 400/GbEthernet with 448mb ram, and Jaguar works perfectly. I can even play some of the newer games on it (only 16mb Rage Pro). It was pretty expencive in the day but it still runs perfectly.
The beachball of death sounds like a pre-jaguar problem, and I would think things would look abit better with jaguar onboard. Ofcourse, if you already have jaguar installed then I'm just plain wrong...:)
you need emacs for that? I just got a piece of paper and two pens, and tried with my girlfriend... works. And writing was invented centuries ago...:)
I think the point is bringing this behaviour in a program to the unwashed masses (to which I belong), in a simple and intuitive way.
There might be a small chip on my shoulder, because whenever I (and probably others as well) post to/. or any other site, I use quite alot more time writing my posts and making sure they don't contain any typos than most other people with english as their first language. I didn't mean to pick on you, but rather let off some steam at people who get all busy with commenting any grammatical errors instead of reading what the post actually says.
Also I would like to apologise for calling you american when infact you're scottish...:)
You know, only dead fish follow the currents...

/. would get though ;)

Wonder what rating

That's always been a good sign...

It's funny though...
>I don't need files with some silly DRM that just makes it
>difficult to use and worry about backing up.
How difficult can it be? You search for the song/album you want, you buy it, and whenever you want to listen to it you press "play".
Most people can handle that.
In that case, have a nice trip to the cd-store, and say hello to the other whiners for me...
I don't see the problem. Apple has provided a service. You are free to use it if you want. If not, your life still remains the same as yesterday.

Why be a smart-ass when you understood what he meant all along? There are many countries in the world, and USA is only one of them.
You should call up your sister and get her to turn off magnification and activate the auto-hide dock options for you.
I watch movies daily on my G4 400 in full screen, and it never chops... Maybe you're doing something wrong?
