If he would sell OS X why wouldnt he sell Linux? He could make his computers cheaper by giving users an easy Linux distro(Fedora, Mandrake, maybe even Linspire) and just charge for burning backup CDs and installing. He would be giving his customers a secure OS with a free Office Suite(MS Office costs extra now). The main reasonhe hasnt done this is because of threats from MS, but wouldnt MS do the same for selling OS X?
I was on a plane a few weeks back and we set up a Ad-Hoc network and played CS on the plane(yes sound was off). I also text messaged on that flight, phones dont do anything to planes, neither does WiFi. Anyway I think its a great idea as long as people dont use their sound.
Apple is behind in more then just laptops. I remember a year ago I my mom had to get an Apple for work, she also needed a DVD burner. When I asked the guy if she could get a Dual Layer DVD burner he said that they wont come out for another few months on Mac or PC, while I had one in my Linux box at home.
I current have a wireless mouse(Logitech MX 1000) and I like the freedom of not having wires because it does not get stuck on some of the random crap on my desk. Why would someone want a wireless keyboard? Your keyboard stays in one place, you never move it nothing can get in the way. Ive never had any problems with my RF mouse next to all of my other electronics, it doesnt work across my room but it works all around my desk.
Funny, my grandparents had tons of problems with Win 98 and Win XP so I put Fedora Core 3 on their computer, they havnt had a problem since. They were already using Firefox and Thunderbird so for them there really was no difference. I havnt had to come over for an emergency fix since.
Why not Linux? No spyware, or viruss to worry about. Its secure and stable. You can use what ever hardware you want. Maybe Apple is going to use intel hardware...
The first two episodes were pretty bad(I mean the new ones that came out) the third was great, reminded me a lot of the new ones. He should get those two right then remake the original three NOT touching the script just making the graphics look like ROTS.
Ive had the same problem. For some reason my iRiver will not mount using the front USB ports on the 8xxx series using the front USB ports. It works fine on the back. This happens to me on Linux and Windows.
I run my own computer repair business and I often push open source software. Most people I talk to who want an image editing program dont need anything more then what GIMP has. Even my mother(a longtime photoshop user), who does image editing, says GIMP is fine for most people. I have yet to run into anyone who has run into any limits of OpenOffice. The biggest problem with OpenOffice is reading some Office 2003 documents, which should be fixed in the next version. I have yet to run into a site Firefox could not goto and its more secure. Thunderbird has great security and I have no problems using it as a mail client. My job is to help people solve problems in the most inexspensive way that works, open source is the only option.
I do the same thing, I dl it all the time and then install it on that computer. Last weekend I installed it on 3 hotel computers while I was away. I do run my own buiness and I have firefox on a CD which I have installed on hundreds of computers. Anyone know if the downloads count Linux bins and/or source?
My iRiver H40 has the feature to hook up to any USB mass storage device show a file manager and then you can copy the files/directories you want over to it. If its a digital camera and the pictures are jpg/bmp(which most cameras do save as) you can even view them. The hole player is shown as a USB mass storage so on Linux/Windows/Mac you can just copy files over and not go through some crappy software *caugh* iTunes *cough* If you upgrade the firmware to the international version you can even view avi movies. The new version H10 looks much better but is only at 5gigs(soon to be 6) and you lose view playing support.
I attended a conference last summer were Microsoft spoke. I asked them what there response was to people claiming that Microsoft copies other peoples ideas, especially from open source projects. There response... talk to our legal department.
Well I havnt done any bench marks but I think learning was very helpful in understanding linux. One of the best things about gentoo is portage, it is many times better then any other package system ive used (rpm deb apt etc).
First of all make sure what your downloading is legal. Try trying an e-mail to the admin telling him or her what you were downloading and prove that what you were downloading was legal. Also put something in the e-mail that it was the only way you could get the file you needed(FTP server full, or there is no other way). If you can prove that you need it for your studies. If that fails goto other students and people that work at your college and have them complain that they need bittorrent.
Yes how long? I live in the NYC area with a verizon building less then a mile away and still I cannt get fiber. Anyone have any idea how long till fiber hits the NYC area?

If I recall correctly XviD is the OpenSource version of DivX. Im wondering how long untill they are fully compatible with DivX 6.

No wonder they lost there using Winblows XP!!!
All mice and keyboards are support, they use a similar driver. For the extra buttons look into xbindkeys.

On any redhat based system all you have to do is download an RPM, click on it, enter your password, and your done.
The big thing that made my grandparnets happy was not only did it all just work but it was free.

I realize that I was just thinking it would be better for Intel to suggest Linux, since they would still have a chance at making money.

You'd be surpised about how many people do that.
I remember reading awhile back the Lucus did not direct the first two, thats why I think he should go back and be more involved with it.
Sorry I ment for the original three the new ones definetly need to be reworked.

I posted this story to slashdot a week ago when it came out. Of course the story was rejected. Gentoo users have had this since the 15.
