    The point isn't that interns should be paid, it's that you shouldn't treat them like employees. They are there to learn. That means not giving them a huge workload, or having them do exclusively grunt work, or not give them anything challenging.

    TEL wasn't used until the mid 20th century. Before that, gasoline was quite low in octane and thus also was the compression and resultant power output.

    I'm a huge libertarian, but even I agree that this is a vehicle inspection (they're not looking at stuff; only fuel should be in the tank) and as legal as them looking at your lights or wipers.

    Tax evasion !== tax avoidance. If Greece is a tax haven, it's probably because they have favorable tax laws. If they aren't enforcing their own tax laws, that doesn't make them a tax haven, but a corrupt state and it's no wonder they are broke.

    You assume this is due to a lack of regulation, when there are other possible factors that are directly due to government interference in the market:
    - Taxes and tariffs (the latter probably doesn't apply in the EU in this case)
    - Subsidies
    - Price fixing to support local merchants

    I mean, didn't you just say the government was corrupt? And you wonder why libertarians oppose big government.

    The US actually has a lot more control over Guatanamo Bay. They have a rental agreement, whereas in Panama they only have the right to defend the canal to ensure neutrality is maintained.

    The US government spent $1.3 billion in Latin America in 2010. That's not counting the billions spent by a myriad of humanitarian organizations. Regardless, I don't think you should be judging countries based on their handouts. If only you were so critical of your own productivity and politics.

    Why are you worried about his alleged "no true scotsman" argument (it wasn't; his argument was simply that there are racist outliers in some groups) when you aren't concerned about your red herrings and straw men? Racism and segregation aren't platforms of the tea parties.

    Try looking up "poisoning the well" as another logical fallacy and be enlightened.

    "hire and fire at will" is a problem, because it inevitably leads to:
    - firing women for being pregnant.
    - firing someone for being "gay", or not being a member of the "correct" religion (or any religion), or other stupid excuses.
    - firing someone because they've been injured or have a disability.

    THAT'S THE JOKE.
    You can't fire people for reasonable things, like theft or incompetence, because there's sure to be some protected trait or activity they could use to invoke government protection.

    NOW: what is the proper role of government in this? I submit that it OUGHT to be to promote the greatest aggregate of liberty and the right of ALL members of the society to be treated as equals. The "right of association" of the business owner is LESS important than the RIGHT of all citizens to be treated as, and participate in, society as EQUAL CITIZENS.

    Says you. But fortunately, not a great many other people.
    The three basic rights are life, liberty, and property. There is no right to be free from jerks, racists, or sexists. In our quest to use government to eliminate these malcontents, we render our power unto it to replace them.
