People like the GP poster are the reason progressives are allowed to remain in power. Responsible citizens think about protecting everyone's rights, rather than imposing their own pet ideas.
No problem. Just don't expect people to pay the same amount for your place as the guy's down the street who didn't smoke in theirs.
Irrelevant. We don't need politicians to tell us what they think are good free-market decisions. Are bars too big to fail? I'm pretty sure that once smoking bars are no longer lucrative, they'll change or die.
Smoking in a bar means the bar patrons smoke with you. That's what the law is preventing. I rather enjoy going to the bar and not coming out smelling like it.
Then go to a non-smoking bar and stop electing people who think it's OK to legislate people's personal choices. If you really need an analogy, how about legislating the volume of the sound system at bars and clubs to protect the audience from hearing problems?
I agree that MADD's founders quit because the organization had achieved its goals and outlived its usefulness. Unfortunately, others decided to rework it as a de facto temperance SIG and abuse their influence. It truly would be a shame if the ALA went the same way-- I was hoping that technology like e-cigs would ultimately allow anti-smoking organizations to outlive their usefulness.
It's not a for-profit corporation that's making money at the expense of another corporation's loss.
Not if it's a public school. In that case, it's a government organization run at the consent of the people using our tax dollars and is not above the law.
Smith says he approached his superiors and the district's IT department and explained why that was wrong, but to no avail.
So what was he supposed to do next? Pay for the software out of his pocket?
You could, but then you wouldn't be echoing what the original poster said. He said that he fixes code written by Indian "developers", and that the ones _he works with_ give him "crap and stupidity". Meanwhile, you said that "American developers are stupid," proving that you are a pathetic, hateful person with a thin skin. By the way, you refer to this country as "the USA", not "USA".
What bank CEOs did was idiotic and a byproduct of Greenspan's Randian/laissez faire outlook on "self-regulation".
Because it was God Himself who ordered the banks to give loans to people with low income, bad credit, and no down payment. Or maybe it was Barney Frank... Just stop. Stop blaming capitalism. If you hate capitalism, there are about 100 socialist countries you can go suck off of.
Those statistics would mean more if we had the year they were taken and the % of each group that was married vs. cohabiting. If you don't get married, you can't get divorced-- and since your column says "% have been divorced" instead of "% of people who have ever been married who divorced", that would be paramount.
Born-again Christians are evangelicals; thus, a high number of adult members who join after screwing up their lives with alcoholism, drug abuse, crime, and divorce. I wouldn't split them out from other Christians as the number is probably misleading.
Aside from making divorce illegal, which is horrible, the one thing that consistently makes the rate of divorce go down is to raise the age of marriage.
Without parental consent, it is already 18 in every state in the USA. If you are referring to the laughably low ages with consent in some states, you may have a good idea.
The city was leveled. What new information could have been gathered in more than three days? Sheesh-- people criticized W for taking 15 minutes to respond on September 11.
Let me break it down for you: top %5 of wealth-holders possess roughly 60% of all wealth in the country.
Let's ignore the possibility that perhaps they EARNED that money, and point out that it would be hard for poor people to hold most of the wealth, wouldn't it? Unless, of course, we had a LOT of them-- which is what some on the left really want. By the way, that top 5% also pays 61% of income tax.
You could always move into an old house with knob-and-tube. It will have no insulation in the walls because the wiring would catch fire, so you might as well forget about being able to afford central heating.
While we're waving our dicks, it was the USA that introduced emissions standards while the rest of the world was choking on carbon monoxide and swimming in acid rain.
Mmm... tomacco.

Actually, I get pretty annoyed when people trot out straw men as if they were valid arguments.
The people's tax money.

Thanks for that, Captain Literal.

That is not likely for the same reason a teller doesn't pocket your deposit at the window. It's called a "camera". They are EVERYWHERE.
Two things:
1. Install sod. Expensive, but that's what you get for living in a state like CA.
2. Don't live in CA.

- Teach kids about creationism (or any theories of origin other than Darwinism) and they'll become radical fundamentalists.

Thanks for a great post.
Then harpo, then groucho. Either this force is tiny, or my newton meter has stopped.

The problem is, if the duct actually carries hot air, the tape will fall off pretty quickly.
The sun's color temperature is rather fixed, I believe.
There is mold-resistant sheetrock now. Unfortunately, it's sheathed in fiberglass instead of paper, so it's still fodder for the paranoid set.

I only ever dated one smoker, but that wasn't my experience. I guess it depends on how much you smoke.
"00000000"? That sounds like a combination some idiot would use on his luggage.
