    You're right: it's not an invasion of privacy. It's a violation of due process. A red light camera is not human and cannot report to traffic court to justify its actions. Judges have a tendency to simply accept what devices like radar guns and cameras report as fact, because "machines don't make mistakes".

    When red light cameras are installed, invariably the yellow light duration is reduced to ensure that more people are caught in the intersection. Eventually, this causes more accidents as people start slamming on the brakes when they see a yellow and get rear-ended.

    Nope. They can get malware. The difference is that an exploit doesn't need to take off in the wild for Linux to patch it, which is more than you can say for Microsoft.

    This is incorrect. Microsoft releases patches before the exploits are found in the wild nearly all of the time.

    I had Hyperaccess, and it let you look at images as you downloaded them via Y/Zmodem. That was fantastic back then. I also used ZOC, which was excellent and also ran on OS/2.

    It may seem shocking, but I believe that the internet is far more left-wing than it was in 1996. And it was pretty far left in 1996, considering that it was far less commercialized and driven mostly by 20-something Gen Xers.

    I'll ignore the car insurance thing, but I'd say you would be better off getting an HDHP (high deductible health plan) with a health savings account than going cash. Your HSA will earn a little interest, can be carried indefinitely, and can be cashed out just like a savings account when you terminate the plan if necessary. The HDHP will be quite cheap, yet will act as a safety net if you end up with a serious illness.
