I'm convinced the main reason WoW has taken off like it has is simply branding. The game was build on a well known and well liked game franchise and they put a lot of effort into developing a community around the game. Granted, branding is the only reason or SWG would have done much better.
It's due late next year according to the wikipedia article. My understanding is the initial launch will not have all the features they currently have planned (no spaceship internals for instance).
There is a lot of choice in mmo's right now and the genre (does mmo count as a genre?) is about to explode. There are lots of new games going online within the next year. The star trek geek in me that died a long time ago is feeling a strong pull to try Star Trek Online.
I was raised in an extremely Christian environment and when I grew up I stopped going to church and rejected their belief system. However, I never once received death threats from the church and for the most part, I believe their intentions were good however misguided I believe them to be. To put it simply, the church I was forced to attend in my childhood never scared me. These people do.
Well, I'm not saying they're something that is likely to become common or profitable (or even a good idea) but they have made working prototypes which means we can in fact make flying cars.
Launching an unmanned satellite that doesn't require life support or any of the other things that human life requires is cheap. Actual space travel where you have humans to keep alive is expensive and until recently had no reasonable expectation of profit.
It's infectious, it's growing and all attempts to stop it have failed.... sounds like a virus to me.
Dan Rather falsely reporting something? I'm shocked, SHOCKED! Well, not that shocked.
There is a difference between the Newton and Newton. I'm fairly certain Apple's PDA did not develop calculus.
Is Newton hadn't been born we wouldn't have calculus and... oh wait.
Well, according to appleinsider at least: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/09/13/ipod_touch_unpacking_tour_and_first_look_photos.html
I think the RDF is a better reason.
The game companies that thought it would fail and weren't prepared for its success.
Depends on the observer.

Ahh, the memories. The horrible, horrible memories. Excuse me while I crawl under my desk, rock back and forth and weep softly.
I believe there is some amount of prior art for unethical behavior.
If you're not part of the solution, there is good money to be had prolonging the problem.

Don't take this as a flame but you fail at Yakov Smirnoff.

We can already make flying cars. The problem is you need a pilot's license to fly them higher than 10 feet.
So you're saying it's better to sell guns to people that have a history of mental issues because they might buy them on the black market if we don't?
Ya, a waiting period and psychological examination of people buying guns wouldn't have helped at all.
I hate to break it to you but there are a lot of people that are 'abnormal' that don't go around shooting people.
I think if they'd moved him to the basement, stopped paying his salary and let him keep the stapler, the building wouldn't have burned down.
They get royalties from AT&T.
The problem is that he offered to pay for it and they refused. I'm sure a hooker would go the extra mile if you paid her enough.
