The SMH is one of our better rags, however like all newspapers it does print some syndicated stories verbatim. It also has the occasional wacko in the editorial pages to stir up contraversy (I'm looking at you Ms Devine).
The SMH is owned by the Fairfax group, funny you should mention Fox News because Howden is actually employed by News Corp, not Fairfax.
I am not arguing against this program I was mearly responding to the OP who's post appeared to be stereotyping austistic people.
Why is the internet is full of people like you who whenever someone make a trite quip they immediately take it to the extreme? Do you do this in real life conversations? If a stranger pushes the wrong button in the elevator do you jump down their throat and accuse them of wanting to hijack a plane?
Here's a free tip for you that will make you life a lot less consfusing and everyone else's more pleasant; Don't pressume to know what other people think, especially when you have zero evidence to make such a judgement.
As a fellow "greenie" I agree, the statement is full of political buzzwords "green business", "green jobs", "significant savings", "green inovations", "to market more quickly".
He is simply trying to justify his departments existence with an obvious lie, either that or he has no idea what his department actually does.
I don't consider myself to be suffering from any disorder but I do suck at the cocktail party effect, often people assume I am either shy or anti-social but the fact is I simply can't understand what they are saying so I just smile and nod.
Many autisic people have described their thinking processes as "instant replay video" some have described their ability to crunch huge numbers as the act of watching swirling colours and shapes merge in their head. I think we have a lot to learn about ourselves just by listening to them, thankfully more researchers seem to be doing that these days.
One of the worst things you can do to people is pidgeon hole them into a job based on a prevelent sterotype. For example, Temple Grandin has made a fourtune "thinking like a cow". I find it impossible to describe her work as predictable or monotonous.
And that's ignoring everything else in your field of view. Add in the other four senses and it highlights the spectacular (and largely unconsious) ability of brains to model and respond to the real world.
"wtf is "information consumption", anyway? If I watch a movie, am I "consuming" more, than if I read a.txt? Does 12 hours of Stargate contain more information than a Physics 101 textbook?"
An input metric, yes, yes.
I'd say my brain consumed more than 34GB of information from my senses just getting out of bed and navigating to my PC, simultanoeously scratching my arse probably added a few more GB.
I agree it's probably a rocket, the vapour trail indicates this. As others have pointed out the spiral could be caused by leaking fuel from a rocket spinning out of control and headed either away or toward the viewer, I'm at a loss to explain the blue beam.
The third picture on the second link clearly shows a vapour trail lit by the fading sunset. However I think physicists are going to have a hard time explaining a rotating spiral and a blue beam of light with ice crystals.
"...get some low UID's involved in this thread we can bump the IQ of the Slash Populous a notch above..." - Sorry but those words tricked my 5th percentile comprehension skills into thinking you were relating UID's and IQ.
Disclaimer: I agree with your sentiment if not your statement.
I thanked you for your link because it comes from a reputable source. However the way you presented it is exatly the same way I have seen the very same link presented in the past, ie: dishonestly.
You can split hairs on the meaning of "acidic", you can ask me to do your reasearch for you, you can ignore what your own link says, you can selectively poo-poo peer-review and published papers, etc, etc. In short, you can do anything you like to rationalise away the basic science that says humans are altering the climate faster than any natrual process known save a direct hit from a large space rock. But please keep your global conspiracy nonsense to yourself, it insults both of our intelligences.
I was a boss for many years, I was the one who picked who got cake and who got the shit sandwich. Most of all I appreciated people who cheerfully and efficiently did either, I didn't care half as much as to how they did it.

Contrary anecdote: I quit my my factory job and started studying for my BSc aged 29, two school aged kids and a wife. Taxi driving and the wife's cleaning job paid the bills. However I'm not from the US, uni fees were paid via a modest tax increase after I graduated.

I've lived in Melbourne for half a century, in my experience the scumbags are usually found in Toorak. ;)
Point well taken but you may find it's origin is more fuzzy than you thought.
"Why do you insist on thinking that autism is simply a handicap"
I think you just failed to comprehend anything that I said in my post, your post is actually a good summary of the point I was making.
BTW: I meant a series of small compartments for seperating and sorting things, I just failed to pick up the typo.

Testing software is certainly monotonus but if it's predictable then why do it at all?

I'd say the term "idiot savant" confirms your theory.
I'm sure these people have good intentions however the road to hell is said to be paved with such intentions.

"Is... is that where our old school potato chips been going?"
Yep, we also have your old school bacon and milk.
Typical, I get my 15min of fame and the photographer cuts my head off!

For some reason that came out as AC?

"Just a thought...
I had that thought once but when I tested it I found UID's and IQ's are not inversely related.
Ah yes, it's coming back to me now. I did something like that toward the end of my BSc (20yrs ago). IIRC it was $5/day.
I was a boss for many years, I was the one who picked who got cake and who got the shit sandwich. Most of all I appreciated people who cheerfully and efficiently did either, I didn't care half as much as to how they did it.
