Check out the section (I think it's in part 2) where he takes over the TV station and broadcasts his own propaganda, threatening to dismiss humanity if it doesn't get its shit together.
Well sure, that's because he's a destroyer. He is very upfront about how destruction is the only thing he can really do. He appoints Evey to be his opposite (in the CreationDestruction spectrum), then allows himself to be destroyed.
I guess I'm saying that V was all about breaking things down, through physical violence and threats of the same. That broadcast was just another instance of that, but it was all part of a plan to level everything so someone else would be able rebuild.
I agree mostly (V wasn't really an anarchist, he just wanted to destroy the current system so that a new, better one could be built instead). Really, the major difference with "V" can be illustrated by this one key line change:
Original: "There is no flesh beneath this mask, there is only an idea" Movie : "There is more than flesh beneath this mask, there is an idea"
Moore stated years ago he didn't want his name on any movies based on his creations. Whether this particular movie is good or not had no bearing on his decision.
Exactly. There is no controversy here, except what these news sites make of it.
It's hardly a fork, really- or rather it is more of a series of one-off forks.
This is not a unique situation even, a few months back I downloaded Firefox compiled with G4 optimizations, and the guy who did the compiling renamed it to "Deer Park", as he was required.
It would seem that Debian recognizes that the use of trademarks is important to protecting the reputation of a project, and may even require approval in some cases. So why should they expect FireFox to be any different?
They don't. This is why Debian hasn't used the Firefox logo in years.
And can you give me any reason for a newbie to be installing Slack or Vector?
If I, as a fairly ignorant high school student, could manage installing and configuring Slackware 2.3 as a first Linux experience- anyone can. Seriously, it just involved reading stuff; and, uh, several attempts.
I'm always a bit amazed by the response this episode gets. Not that people find it sad, of course it's incredibly sad- but the fact that people don't want to see it because it is sad. Any television show or book capable of convincing you to feel something is an achievement.
There's nothing particularly bad about being sad.
As to "out of character", this is the same Fry who sabotaged his own super-intelligence so he could find out if Leela liked him for who he really was. I totally got his decision- even though perfect knowledge would have indicated he not take that path.
But the point here is it's the terminology people are unfamiliar with, not the concept. I may not recognize the police code for breaking and entering, but that doesn't mean I don't care if it is happening at my house.
The same could easily be said of "Most people don't even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it?". While it may piss off Wired magazine, most people out there do not know what a rootkit is and do not care about it (note, the/. readership is not a good sample of 'most people').
Most people don't even know what staph is, so why should they care if our doctors wash their hands?
Yea that doesn't happen in Firefly, and theres no references to it.
Inara and Saffy there in Firefire are just whores that went to whoreschool.
I picked up a 'Dune' vibe myself. There seemed to be a effort by those in charge of the Companions to get them next to people of influence, just like the Bene Geserit did with many of their younger girls. I got got the impression that this was so that influence could be exercised in concert.
Individual.net is worth paying for because of the spam filtering they do.
That was in January. In March they canceled those plans.

I've always seen this schism as "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" vs "Encyclopedia Galactica".
What it really comes down to is that some people believe in the "Field of Dreams" theory of engineering, and others believe in its opposite.
Both are probably necessary as ideas for progress their friction creates, but one is obviously(?) utopian.
So, basically just segment the database and push with bittorrent.
No patch has shown up on ivtv-devel...
Linus spends his time reviewing submitted patches, AIUI. It's project management, but a required part of development on a largish scale.
Ha ha! The same strategy I employ to avoid attracting worms with also throw these devices off.

The keys are in the 'debian-archive-keyring' package.

Congratulations! You've created Solipsism!

Ah yes, Anticompetitive-practices R Us.
Why yes, I did own a Sega Master System. Why do you ask?
