When I first saw that compound, my first thought was how long it was going to take someone to make that into a map. It seemed like the perfect setup for one.
That's essentially what the whole Tea Party movement was about initially. It was a "what the fuck are you doing GOP party?" movement. Many Republicans value a fiscally conservative government above all else. Other value a socially conservative government above all else. The 1996 elections brought both sides of the Republican party together because they promised to reign in spending and be socially conservative at the same time. They won big. Over the next 12 years, the Neo-Republican Party that was in office went AWOL and started spending as if there wasn't a limit. They completely left the roots of their party's political motto.
That's part of the reasoning behind the huge 2006 and 2008 election loses for the Republicans. The fiscally responsible ones became disillusioned with the whole bunch and didn't want to vote for them. They were just as angry about the deficit growing from $4T to $8T.
As a fiscally conservative republican/libertarian, i don't give a shit if it's a republican, democrat, or the Pope himself. This spending spree in Washington has got to stop. And the tax code needs to be completely restructured. There are too many damn loopholes for the super rich and corporations to get around, all while the middle class gets raped because they make enough money to get by, but can't afford these big name tax consultants.
Now, I'm no fan of a lot of what the Tea Party has become. There are a lot of rednecks involved in it, and a lot of the socially conservative Republicans are trying to take credit for it and take it over. But if you really want to know what is at it's core and the root of it, you'd have to read Ron Paul's book The Revolution.
Why don't the side effects ever make your dick grow? The side effects always seem to suck.
I want side effects that give me a bigger penis, reduce cancer risks, increase mental retention, facilitate muscle growth, increase stamina, increase life expectancy, etc, etc.
People actually use editors without tag completion, syntax highlighting/validation and such? What a pain in the ass and slow way of developing software. I would rather gouge my eyes out than go back to the olden days.
I'd agree with that. You'd think improvement would be offering more customization on the platform that already existed. NOT a different style of platform with fewer customizations.
I'm not sure if Ubuntu/Gnome developers are trying to push people away or just keep them on their toes to an infuriating degree.
Yea, my question is this. What if I invent something quite amazing, and I don't patent it because I don't want to or just haven't gotten around to it, and I publish the specs for creating this widget. I become widely known as the inventor of such spectacular device.
If some company a couple years later, realizing i hadn't patented the device, comes along and copies my instructions word for word, and files it with the patent office, could they then a) get the patent for it? And b) force me to quit using/making/selling my own invention (but their recently owned patent)?
So when i mouseover a link, it displays the url it points to in the URL bar and overwrites the current URL? And i have several plugins that display icons in the bottom status bar currently: ForecastFox, Firebug, Greasemonkey, IETab, Delicious, Echofon, Stylish. Where would those be displayed in Firefox 4?
As you saw in the 2008 election. Whomever is President is the face of the government despite who controls the House and the Senate. As far as "the people" are concerned, the Democrats are still running things. And any pitfalls over the next 2 years will be blamed completely on them, just as Bush was blamed from 2006 - 2008.
Yea, I'm right there with you. Until linux or it's numerous versions grow up enough that I don't have to ever open a command prompt, it won't be considered a desktop for the mainstream.
For me, I've tried Ubuntu on my laptop and the installer freezes halfway in the unpacking/install process and just reboots. So Ubuntu is worthless to me. It worked on my desktop fairly well, but getting things done is a maze of undocumented disasters one right after the other.
Back on my laptop, I tried openSUSE, which installed like a charm. But then i realized that the installers were completely different and it acted different than Ubuntu. At that point I threw my hands up in the air and went back to Windows.
Linux is just not ready. Until they decide on one distribution mechanism (deb vs rpm). One package manager. A more stable installer. And quit worrying about theming colors, which instant messaging client to preinstall, and where to place the buttons on the window.
Of course this would have no impact on your taxes, your taxes would be just as high. Yes, the homeowner says he pays taxes so he's not getting a huge break here, sounds like he's just getting screwed with no fire department.
What are you talking about? Why would the taxes still be high? Where would that money that is collected actually go if it weren't being used by these services that are provided a-la-cart?
Obviously, you are ranting and not thinking logically. I live in Tennessee. We do not have a state income tax. The sales tax is slightly higher than most states, and the only other money collected is from property taxes, which in the rural counties is extremely low. My guess is this guy's tax rate is probably a third of that in a city like Los Angeles.
They tried the "billing method" before, but only 50% of the people actually paid up. Because these fires are outside of their district, they don't have jurisdiction to force payment or garnish wages or jailing them for failure to comply (darn consumer protection laws, right?). They don't have the time, money, or desire to hire a lawyer or collections agency. They are only a slight step above a volunteer fire department.
If anything should be different, it should be that they be able to accept cash on the spot. And that amount should be about $1000.
{sarcasm} Which makes me wonder....why do macs have an optical drive at all? If BluRay is dead/dying, then CD and DVD are just as much so if not more. So just quit putting them in the computers at all. {/sarcasm}...this has nothing to do with a format dying, and everything to do with Apple and Microsoft pushing their respective technologies. If HD-DVD won the HD disk battle, do you seriously think they'd be saying the format is dead?
I think that's what PayPal is trying to figure out.
Seriously though, I think PayPal is often a medium for people trying to funnel money/launder it. They see an account go from a little action here and there, and then bam in a short period of time it goes to half a million? Of course red flags are going to go up. And they're not going to just pay the guy his money if they don't know its legit. They don't want to be on the hooks with the banks if it's some guy who has run a scam.
Yes, they game him a two week window, but it's not going to take that long. They just want to be on the safe side of expectations. My guess is it'll take a few days to make sure everything is kosher, and he'll get his money.
I guess i don't see it as that big a deal considering the circumstances. There are alot of shitheads out there stealing CC numbers and hacking accounts, that they're forced to play it safe. If they just start paying out people without investigating the abnormal transactions, then they'll be out of business with all the money they'd be on the hook for from all the scams.
The US has always been known as "America" for short in the English dictionary. Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, and Chile have not. No one in this day and age is confused about the term and whom it's applied to, nor should they be.
Plus, "USian" is not even a word and therefore more stupid than the alleged misappropriation of the work "American". So if you want to come up with a better word, then it needs to be an actual word.
When i read the title of this story, i thought it was a joke. Digg is extremely liberal these days. I rarely go there anymore, and have since blocked the Political section because its typically nothing but Huffington Post crap with a huge circle jerk of libs giving each other reach-arounds.
Back before the 2008 election there was not near the political representation from other sites. It was much more friendly and less threatening.
My father is actually working with a company to design a completely closed system coal plant (although it would work with anything that has carbon in it). It would be able to produce electricity and fuel and have no discarded byproduct. The gasoline product for cars would cost around $1/gallon. Of course, getting the government to sign off on more coal plants is political suicide, despite this being a solution for our energy needs.
While they have the millions in dollars of financial backing to go ahead with the testing phase, this biggest hindrance is governmental regulation. No politician wants to say "burning coal is ok as long as there is no 'negative externalities'". People are too stupid to understand that burning coal and pollution don't have to be tied together.
Have you seen cars that hit deer at 60mph? Have seen what happens when a car swerves to avoid another object and winds up losing control of their vehicle?
A motorcyclist falling on the interstate at 100mph can cause some serious damage. Do you expect a driver to just run over a biker laying in the interstate? Most would swerve and try and avoid, likely causing even more carnage. Not only to the biker, but also those around them.
I'll agree with you that 1080p sucks for computer monitors, I'm somewhat OK with the widescreen, though I can see the disdain for it. Few people need a monitor that is wider than it is taller. (That's why the iPad and Kindle are tall instead of wide). The common (dumb) user only thinks of "1080p" and think that means "the best", so they buy that. It's become a tag line for the masses and they can't look beyond it. Desktop monitors aren't meant for watching movies as their primary mission, yet the common person is purchasing monitors with that being the ideal. It's effed up.
Regardless, whatever monitor I buy next, it will have to have AT LEAST 1200 vertical pixels. 1080 is a joke for any monitor that you want to get any real work done on.
And many people that like the president or don't mind him. But one thing is certain. He is in the process of doubling the size of the government from Bush (who doubled it from Clinton). He is bringing more and more control at the federal level.
And at some point in time, there is going to be another "Bush-type" in office, and he will control (and be able to F-up) twice as much as George W. Just think about that. Think about George W being in charge of a government twice as large as the one he had when he left office. That's the road we are going down as we continue to elect officials that GROW, GROW, GROW.
When are people to going to wake the fuck up and quit electing party people that promise "benefits", and start electing people that promise "responsibility".
I'm pretty sure I was born with 10 fingers, so 'life' and 'reality' invented a multitouch universe
FYI, i just bought this 24" 1900*1200 monitor. Absolutely love it. And with a matte screen.

Something like this is an alternative to the "flat tax", all while not putting a tax burden on the impoverished.

Curious as to how this affects plugins like FireFox's SearchWP that has been around since Feb 2004

And how did Google get it back dated to 1999? That was before Chrome even existed and we were in the Internet Explorer 4.0 days and Netscape.

The Pre was introduced at CES 2009, which is in January. So it's been "out" for over a year and a half.

Until DirectX is natively available on Apple and Linux products, OpenGL will remain relevant (regardless of how old and crappy it becomes)
