Who is going to PAY for YOUR internet? I don't mean the connection, I mean the content. Please consider this.
Funny...I was on the web near the beginning..'92 - '93 or so...and you rarely saw an ad then. Yet, content grew and grew and grew before I ever saw an ad.
The internet and its sub category, the web, wasn't built for commerce or anything but allowing peer-to-peer computer networking.
What happened and came along after that, just evolved, but if ad driven sites went away, there would still be content provided by those that have those interests, etc.
Like others have said, no one has a responsibility to keep anyone's business model running for them....
You have no idea just how lucky you are. I very rarely wish vocational and economic disaster to occur for someone but I make an exception in your case.
While there *is* always some luck involved in any aspect of life, my job and position is due to valuing of an education, learning to work from an early age (I started at age 16 washing dishes in a restaurant)...and working ever since then through schools, etc.
Learning to work, learning people skills....having those first jobs was important.
But most of it was hard work, and learning how to deal with people to move my way up the chain over the years.
No one *gave* me my job with high income, I earned it.
I still say, if you're still flipping burgers for a living, *YOU* fucked up somewhere along the way...and need to give some serious thought as to why you're working a childs job instead of a real job...and make moves to rectify that situation.
Before we can reform farming, we need to move the first presidential caucuses out of Iowa.
That's something I don't understand either.
In this day in age, to make things fair between the states, shouldn't we have either a random drawing or round robin type situation to have the initial polls and caucuses rotate between the different states as to the order they go?
Seems it would keep the pols on their toes more, and we wouldn't have the same group of folks each go around, set the tone of the campaign. Is Iowa representative of the nation at large? I'd say not.
So, to make it fair, each election cycle, they should move the order of the states around that starts off the election season process.
As a Michigan native, I have always thought that sugar came from beets. This part of the state is the heart of sugar beet country. Growing more beets would solve several problems at once. It's time to plow under most of Detroit and plant beets. This would reclaim more of the city for productive use, create a tax base and possibly produce bio-fuels. At the same time, we can lower unemployment and empty the jails by teaching young people to farm. Imagine the historical irony of undoing the "great migration".
Hey, be careful....talking that way about Detroit is borderline to getting you accused of being a racist.
Yes, but seriously, who in their right mind, puts high reliability, crucial work in a server room on freakin' Windows?!?
If you need 24/7 uptime, these days in most high end commercial and govt server rooms I know of...it is mostly Linux, which supplanted Solaris years back...
when a person can get a job at Walmart, and still qualify for sec8 housing that is sad. and Walmart is in the midst of a 50 billion dollar campaign to do this to millions of workers under its plan to apply Walmart values on small manufacturers. they know the government won't stop them, and 6 of the richest people in the USA the family owners of Walmart are salivating at the profit margins.
Sorry..but jobs at Wallmart, or flipping burgers at McD's are jobs that KIDS should be working, intro jobs to the job market. They are not jobs that grown adults are supposed to be working to support a family.
If you are 30yrs and wearing a Walmart name tag, you're made some serious vocational errors in your life....
...and considering half the citizens of this country free loaders...
Well, in light of about half the citizens in the US paying no net Federal taxes, then yes, they are freeloaders, on all the rest of us who work and pay those taxes.
I'm still pretty comfortable just using cash. Untraceable, easy, no ID required.
Online, sure I pay with CC or even PP at times, but for meatspace transactions, I try to do cash as much as possible.
If for nothing else, when I take out $200-$300 a week for pocket money, I have a better idea of how much I'm spending each week. It isn't abstract like CC's and online payments are....
". . . I had no prior knowledge of the Watergate break-in; I neither took part in nor knew about any of the subsequent coverup activities; I neither authorized nor encouraged subordinates to engage in illegal or improper campaign tactics." (also: "I am not a crook.")
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."
"Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."
"We don't have a domestic spying program."
"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you..."
Are any of the old NYM email servers still up and running? I remember bouncing emails, encrypted on each node...and if really wanting ti safe, to have the replies all end up on an anon group on USENET.
Is Mixmaster still working ?
I've not tried looking into this in ages, but is anyone else using them? Are they all compromised and shut down now?
What about freenet, is that still in existence and anonymous?
How...?
Ugh...
Is that still on? Hasn't their 15 minutes of fame expired yet?
Is there some kind of status about having followers, that is so good, that you'd create parrot accounts to follow yourself?
What exactly does that gain you? Sounds kinda sad to me...
We should back off and leave them alone. If they want to blow themselves to shreds, let them.
It isn't our fight, and it isn't our business....
And we continue to send them money why again??
That's nobody's business but the turks....

When are the people of NY gonna vote that jack ass Bloomberg out of office? Is he really worth all the trouble and rights infringement?
Stop and frisk? You can't buy a large soda? Etc....
Hmm...maybe a little thermite attached to it..rigged to be blown when you need to get rid of the black box.
Offtopic? Really...?
1. How do I turn it off?
2. How do I disable it?

It would still be cheaper and cover more people that obamacare....

At this point, I'm all for someone that is a bit more honest and straightforward and stable....like Charlie Sheen.
"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you..."
Isn't Obama the one who has said a LOT of things over the past couple years that have had nothing to do with reality?
Remember, this is all just a bunch of "phony" scandal/controversy.
If you were to set up a mixmaster node on one of your home servers, you think you'll warrant a visit from the Feds on that one?
