Lower cost, better screen, free food from my kitchen, pause button and volume control...
Don't forget access to a fully stocked BAR!!
:)
Oh, and if you've got a chick over to watch a movie, with the food and bar, you can get her nekkid on the couch even before the movie finishes if things are going well.
This type of thing is having a negative influence on regular photographer buffs tho...
I'm on forums for photography where people doing the age old activity of "street photography" are getting some very rude and often violent reactions from people, something that never seemed to happen in the past.
I've not really run into it yet, but I've heard of folks in other countries besides the US seeing this too. I hear of it especially in the NE section of the US from the people I've spoken with.
I"m very much against the govt. cameras, but a guy on the street not hassling anyone shouldn't be a problem.
I think maybe this is a side effect of social networking and facebook.
I grew up without worrying about a camera everywhere (thank God) when I was a kid/teen/college student. Everyone knew there was a time for and at time NOT for whipping the camera out.
Sigh, but I guess normal street photography is going to become a casualty of the new times. Sad.
If you put your head down and did a job, instead of schmoozing, you might not be so lucky.
People need to know that a good part of their work, career and job ARE the things other than just putting your head down and doing work.
People should think about gaining and USING people skills, just as much as they concern themselves with continued education.
You might have learned everything about java, but you need someONE, a person, to give you a job. The best jobs are usually to be had by inside information at places by people you know.
That's big of you. Lemme guess, you have no children, and you'll never have grandchildren. And as for your fellow man, well...does ethics ring a bell, empathy, sympathy...poor people in nations about to be inundated by ocean water mean nothing to you?
No kids that I know of (thankfully). I would have liked them maybe when I was younger, but, I couldn't possibly entertain the idea of the little boat anchors for life now. I enjoy my freedom, and my disposable income that I can spend on, well, ME.
I'm not saying I go out of my way to actively hurt the earth, or anything, but I also don't inconvenience myself for doing anything for it. I've never recycled as that I can't be bothered to take up valuable kitchen floor space for 3-4 different garbage cans nor keep up with that many of them outside to set out on different days for them to pick up, too much of a PITA.
But, I have nothing against people that do.
I'm not bothered by the needs or what happens to 'poor people' in other nations. I'll never meet them, nothing I'll ever do personally will ever really affect them one way or another, and life sucks for some people, I was lucky enough to be born in a nice place. People will have hard lives, suffer and die, and there's nothing I can directly do that will affect that. So, why should I not take 110% full advantage of the hand life has dealt me, and enjoy doing what I want. If I want to buy a 70s muscle car that gets 10mpg...why not? I can afford the gas...and they are fun to drive.
If I were to be overly thoughtful about all this, give all my money to charity and life the live of a pauper, I'd not really make a dent in anything happening in this world, so, why should I bother? Why should I give up if it doesn't make a bit of difference? Seems stupid to give up on what makes my life good if it doesn't make any type of significant difference.
My larger question is...who cares if it is climate change natural or man made?
By the time it all goes to hell, I'll be long gone, dead and in the ground. And if anyone *is* still around that wants to curse my name or my generation, I'll be DEAD..and not terribly bothered about it.
I'm only here on earth a short time...and gonna enjoy my life to the fullest while I'm here, I see no reason to start sacrificing my time and effort for anything that won't really affect me nor anyone I know immediately alive now.
"I don't know what's gonna happen, man, but I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames."
I DO appreciate good beers most of the time. I like a lot of the US craft beers...and I myself, am a home brewer.
I grab the stuff like PBR for more of thirst quench ice, ice cold when I've been out doing something like mowing the lawn in 95F 90% humidity...when something heavier than that just isn't pleasant....this is 'chug' beer.
Also, good for fishing out on the boat on a hot sunny day...so you don't get trashed, but still have something to sip on.
When in a bar or somewhere nice, or indoors at home, I crack open something much more substantial.
and you should be able to buy them anywhere Pabst Beer can be bought (two other overpriced-for-the-nutrition-you-get brands).
PBR is overpriced?!?!
It is one of the cheaper beers around. To me, it tastes just about the same as Budwiser or the like. I'm not often in mood for the chug'em ice cold US lagers like these, but they do have their place (on extremely hot days here in NOLA), and I'd just as soon grab a PBR as a Bud or Bud Light, especially since the price is much lower.
When not sweating my ass off, and wanting to enjoy a beer for taste and more..I got for the better stuff, but PBR as far as that style of beer goes, is good as any of the rest and you often find it rock bottom prices.
Do you not understand that western governments, and particularly the U.S. and U.N., have been fucking with the entire african and mid-east region for centuries?
You know, I'm only interested really in the past 40 or so years, maybe less.
I don't really give a fuck about africa, I have nothing to do with them and they really aren't of much use to me...if we are doing things there, anything, then we should get out.
Aside from wasting the Somali pirates that hit our ships, we shouldn't have any US interest setting foot in that area.
Do some counting. Americans have killed a lot more innocent muslims in the middle east than muslims have killed innocent westerners.
Hey, they started it.
And, if we'd gone over there and fought like a REAL war, with no 'hearts and minds' bullshit, we'd have wiped out the bad guys much quicker and more efficiently, and it would have all been over long ago.
The problem with the US is, we don't go in like a real war anymore. We need to go in with overwhelming strength and force and overrun with extreme prejudice, make it short and sweet.
Because violence begets more violence. The greatest marketing tool for Al Qaeda is the claim that America is in a war against Islam. There is nothing to be gained by making that claim factual.
Only if you allow survivors.
Turn a couple of places to 'glass', and there will be no survivors there to recruit.
Where would we attack? Even if we wanted to take military action against these idiots, they are spread out across so many nations that it would be the start of a world war and give credence to their teachings.
Well, you gotta start somewhere...
Sadly, it might seriously be time for considering a modern version of the crusades. But without the religious slant on our side. These islamists are basically invading again like before, heck, look at what its doing to Europe right now. In the past, well, there was push-back against that. Perhaps it is time to rethink all the political correctness, and call a spade a spade, and say enough, and quit giving in so readily and tolerating everything they want and do. If our western customs don't work for you...fuck it, go back to a muslim country where it is the norm. I'm not seeing a lot of Catholics nor Baptists suicide bombing anything. So, why don't we quit pretending and searching them so closely and turn our attention more directly on islamists around us in our countries and focus more on containing and pushing back against their countries that are openly antagonistic against us. Let's decide on the worst offender, and think seriously about helping many of them see allah in a quick fashion.
:)
And to others..we do know where some of these folks live and if they're surrounded by others that support and condone them, then, they're fair game too.
You know...when are we in the western world, going to finally have enough of these 'peace loving' islamic asshats, and just start stomping them...HARD?
They don't seem to want to play nice with the rest of the world, and frankly isn't everyone about to start getting tired of going out of our way to be some tolerant of those that show absolutely no tolerance to anyone different than they are?
I'm surprised and frankly *shocked* that we're not hearing more calls for them to move the city of New York or at least most of it somewhere safer in the US. I mean, what were they thinking building such a city in such an obviously poor area, near the ocean with rivers around that could so easily flood...and has an past history with hurricanes, that have wiped whole vacation islands away that used to be right there off the coast..?
I mean..we hear all kinds of talk of this sort when Katrina hit New Orleans...why aren't we now talking of moving NYC and those cities in NJ built so dangerously close to the ocean. Where are all the calls saying we shouldn't be rebuilding there....etc?
I'm puzzled. Could there possibly be some bias in this country? A double standard?
Actually, I was wondering if they have any classes labeled as being specially targeted to young men, like the ones targeted specifically to young women?
And...combine that with the photo app, biometric database they want to add in for EVERY US Citizen for implementing the immigration reform bills, and now you have a national ID biometric database that will be the one database to 'bind them all'.
is it really professionally appropriate to use barely-dressed women as objects of advertisement at a trade show for a product consumed by a diverse user base?
Yes
You can't seriously suggest that straight men are so blinded by their sexual desires that they are unable to function in a professional environment without having scantily-clad women hawking products to them
Not saying they are blindsided...just that they ENJOY that type thing, and it attracts them to the booths. It works, plain and simple.
Maybe the critical distinction is that I only spend my time around people who are adults, though - which sadly isn't directly tied to age.
I guess to break it to you, in some ways (sexual drive/interests), men NEVER grow completely up. Fact of life
Geez, what's the problem. Gaming is *still* according to the numbers, a male dominated interests, what is wrong with catering to your main audience? No matter how old a (straight) guy is, he is never going to get tired of looking at scantily clad women. Doesn't matter if your 13 or 63, we still like looking at tight, cute asses.
Not everything has to conform to political correctness. What's wrong with letting guys be guys, and enjoy things men like?
When the women outnumber the men, are we going to complain then that there are too many booth bros?
Friends are people you deal with outside of work. You should be friendly to co-workers, get along with them, etc....but rarely is it a good idea to have more than that and dangerous to have social interactions with them outside of work.
There are exceptions to the rule, but in general, work and real life should be separated.
I have TONS of friends...I have great co-workers, but those circles don't generally intersect.
Beyond a certain point, having more money doesn't really improve one's life all that much - at least, the motivation that money gives is lost. It's around $70k or so. After that point, you can toss more money at a guy, but they won't be motivated as much.
I dunno who this 'guy' is...but not me.
I am purely motivated by one and only ONE thing with regard to work....money.
I wouldn't be working if I didn't need and want money and the things and security (for now and retirement) that I enjoy.
Money plain and simple...otherwise, why work? Get as much as you can...you don't have to be friends with co-workers, go in, do your stuff, get as much $$ as you can, and then enjoy your life outside your work hours.
Work != Life.
Be a contractor is my advice once you have enough experience...might as well get a good bill rate to go with the non-job security most everyone had these days.
Is this actually a problem for people? Nothing to involve their lives?
Geez, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd walk outta work without a backwards glance, and be overjoyed to have time for ME to do all the stuff I like doing when NOT having to come to work.
Are there actually that many people that are so tied up in their jobs, that they don't have a personality and a life outside of it?
Don't forget access to a fully stocked BAR!!

Years of experience should have also given him years of names and people to contact when needing that next gig.
Once you're out in the work world, the next jobs come from who you know...if you're doing it right.
If nothing else, get with a contracting house...they DO value older experienced folks with heavy resume experience.
No kids that I know of (thankfully). I would have liked them maybe when I was younger, but, I couldn't possibly entertain the idea of the little boat anchors for life now. I enjoy my freedom, and my disposable income that I can spend on, well, ME.

Nah....couldn't be that.
Fair is far, right?
Or...would someone start complaining about that?
It isn't like we actually seem to have a valid space program anymore.
NASA has been decimated so badly in recent years, I'm thinking "new" astronauts are more for looks than any real substance.
What the hell are we gonna send them out on?
From an earlier /. article: link
