I'm pretty sure that if there were a poll asking the the public or even just the subset who voted in the last election as to whether or not they thought the government should be free to read their emails and online files as described in the original post, the answer would be a resounding "No!" So, don't say the voters are willing to trade away their liberties for a sense of security.
I dunno about that..I mean, you saw who they elected as president didn't you?
Because corrupt oligarchs at the trough of local business interests are definitely better than democracy.
Not really a valid argument.
Your local elected officials are MUCH more answerable to you for their actions and you can have a greater effect on them. Having local people you elected submit senators would have the senators on the federal level much more answerable to you in your state, than they are now, which is national....and lots of money floating there to be had.
The old way put a buffer between your state's interests in the senate and money for elections...keeping that all much more local.
Democracy. In the end, it's the only thing you can rely on.
True..but times change...
Not to mention, that even if you're careful, you can still get the wrong kind of people elected...and you're usually pretty much stuck with them till next election, during which time, damage can be done to your life.
Hey..you come into this world alone and you leave it alone.
During your short time here, you make the best friends you can, have fun, enjoy your time to the max here....and then leave.
I don't see any moral or ethical debate on if there is global warming or not.....it is a provable fact, or it is not...simple, nothing to do with morality??
Oh, well, it must be true if it was on the radio. The radio only ever has well researched, peer-reviewed content.
No...just said I'd heard it the other day while driving in...and no, it wasn't Rush or anyone like that...I don't even know if he's on the air down here.
Just was hoping someone might have links one way or the other on it.
Me personally? I don't really care....
By the time the world explodes or dies or has a real problem with global warming, I'll be long dead and in the ground with no one to remember who I was or curse my name.
Therefore, I'm gonna have all the fun I can with the fun things hydrocarbons can do...hell, right now I'm trying to buy a big block (455) 70's muscle car, and yes, even with 10mpg, It'll be a daily driver (I live fairly close to work)....
Aside from that, I don't really go out of my way to pollute, but I certainly don't go out of my way with any effort to conserve or recycle or anything....I'm here a short time on earth, so live for today, and enjoy my time here to the fullest is pretty much my motto.
I thought I'd heard the other day on the radio, that the world had actually seemed to have stopped warming a few years ago, and had been actually holding steady on average?
This and double this. A lot of people confess to things they didn't do. It's not just the mentally ill off their drugs. If the cops suspect you've done something they will grill you like it's their professional job. They'll claim any number of lies about what your future looks like, what evidence they have, and what the best course of action would be for you. You'll be faced with DECADES in prison vs a few years of probation because "you cooperated".
First rule of thumb, never talk to the cops. Shut up...and lawyer up, this is ESPECIALLY true if you are innocent.
The police are not and never have been there to help you, they are there to try to solve a case and pin the rap on someone....hopefully the criminal, but often the innocent can get very damaged too if not downright wrongly convicted.
Anyone that talks to the cops is an idiot.....it is up to you to know your rights, and at least in the US, the one were you can SHUT up is about the most important one there is.
The devil is in the details. I don't say you HAVE to trust your government, just that it's sorry IF you CAN'T trust the government.
The trouble is...you may well trust those in the govt. now, and that's fair.
Trouble is..how can you know you can trust others in the govt years down the line?
I've yet to see a law that hasn't been stretched far beyond its original spirit and intentions in the US at least....they always seem to be finding new and exciting ways to use the rights we gave the govt for on purpose, to use them in new creative ways in the future, often in ways you aren't quite comfortable with....
Why? Not trolling, but it seems to me that if everyone's DNA were on record the crime rates would drop through the floor.
Maybe I feel this way because a good friend of mine was raped a few years ago, and if all DNA were recorded the asshole who did that to her would probably be rotting in jail right now.
What puzzles me about Republicans is that they're all for "states rights". Two states have legalized marijuana, why aren't the Republicans for overturning federal pot laws?
Yep...and neither are the Democrats rushing to remove the federal laws either.
I wish someone would answer me why it took a constitutional amendment to prohibit alcohol....and another one to re-instate it....why pot and other intoxicants were made illegal with the mere swipe of a pen?
If someone sends death threats, racially abuses someone...
Ok, I can understand death threats...that is illegal, but what, pray tell, is racial abuse?
I mean, sure it might hurt someone's feeling to call them a stupid polack (sp?), gibbering chink, damned gook, or a fucking nigger....it isn't nice to say, or politically correct.
But, other than hurt someones feelings and self esteem....it isn't causing injury to anyone or threating their lives..?
Sure, it is distasteful speech, but should be free speech none the less, no?
Can you get arrested in the UK for saying things I've said above?
Rather than 'payback' you could be witnessing the result of a CEO that has already proven he is a douche by being willing to give away two million free pizzas on promotion but not eat 14 cents on margin for his employee healthcare costs,
I imagine that as Obamacare becomes more and more implemented, we're going to see more business have to make these kinds of decisions, especially with regard to part time help, etc.
These min wage jobs aren't meant to be living careers...they're for highschool and college kids to make extra $$. These kids don't need separate health care as that they're usually covered still by parents or schools....but this is now an extra burden put on by the Feds and the new laws.
I never expected health care when growing up doing jobs in HS and through college.....
I agree that the government shouldn't be in the Marriage business, however I somewhat disagree with it not being in the civil union business - a civil union has impact on federal tax status, mandating some level of involvement.
I think you misread me...I think the govt should ONLY be in the civil union business...and get out of the Marriage business.
And, a civil union should be able to be done between any 2 or more people that want to do this.
The issue right now is that real income for the middle and lower class has been falling over the past 30 years.
I agree...but them wanting to place taxes on the $200K and above crowd does and CAN hurt the middle class.
There are people out there, running small businesses, many of the S corps (I have one too)....all the income that comes in through the company falls through at EOY onto your personal taxes...even if you are keeping it IN the company for reinvestment, etc.
This set up is good for keeping the money from being double taxed, like a regular (usually LARGE) corporation.
This tax raise Obama wants to do...will specifically hurt small businesses doing this...and there are MANY of them.
If he wants to exempt people that have this business set up from this tax hike....that would be ok with me since it would help keep businesses from being pounded.
If he wants to tax the rich..why not go after the REALLY rich...people makein over $1M year? At that level, they aren't deriving income through a small business corporation (described above)...they are starting to be int he wealthy bracket.
Why? Is there seriously a need to come up with new methods other than good old fashioned fucking?
On another note...when asking "why"....is it like we have some type of population problems? Not enough people being born? Are we running short of pussies to hold new kids?
Republican platform stance on abortion, drugs and same-sex marriage are all gross violations of personal rights and freedoms.
First..I'm not a republican. I lean conservative fiscally, more liberal on most social issues.
Yeah, the republicans need to get off the abortion thing...hell, I thank God for it being legal....many times over.
:)
I've not seen the Dems, on the federal level doing much about drugs at all....certainly the Obama administration has not made a single move to legalize even pot. And I've heard the Feds are saying they're ready to go after those in the states that just passed legalizing pot (WA and CO was it?).....and guess what...the Dems are in charge. Why don't they try to at least get pot off the "schedule of drugs" the Feds have...?
Same sex marriage.....have you forgotten Obama, especially in the first election...stated quite clearly he supported marriage to be between a man and woman, and did not agree with same sex marriage?
Personally...I think the govt....fed and state, should get 100% OUT of the marriage business. Marriage is a religious thing....
Let people that want the married moniker do it through their church.....but everything that binds people for property, etc.....the state/feds can oversee that and all that would be a separate civil union type contract, which any 2 or more people could enter into.
Fair enough?
But in this last election, I was forced to the lessor of two evils, and right now, I'm MUCH more concerned about the economy and deficit....and about over- regulation of so many things that will touch everyones lives....than I am of a few social issues that would not get any movement or traction on if Romney had won.....
I do fear what Obama and clan will do, unhindered by need of being re-elected.
I think he wants to fundamentally change what the US has stood for....and spending us into oblivion and getting as many folks dependent on the Fed govt. for handouts/entitlements is part of that long term strategy.
I think he'll try to take us somewhere that we may not be able to come back from....
is that spoiled little children like you still haven't figured out that the adults are getting tired of your self-entitled whining and tingking that we should all be honored for the privilege of being forced to clean up your messes.
What do you mean 'my' messes?
Anyone coming after Obama (if it had been Romney this time, or someone else after this term) is gonna have one huge fuckton of a mess to clean up.
Are you missing it that Obama in 4x years has run things into the ground almost twice as bad as Bush II did in 8 years?!?!?
I dunno about that..I mean, you saw who they elected as president didn't you?
Not really a valid argument.
Your local elected officials are MUCH more answerable to you for their actions and you can have a greater effect on them. No, that was just a rallying cry for his followers to chant first time he ran.
This time is was "Forward"....equally as meaningless as the former party chant.
True..but times change...
Not to mention, that even if you're careful, you can still get the wrong kind of people elected...and you're usually pretty much stuck with them till next election, during which time, damage can be done to your life.

I thought I'd heard the other day on the radio, that the world had actually seemed to have stopped warming a few years ago, and had been actually holding steady on average?
I guess I am...had to look up "Rule 34".
Ok...so, there is pr0n gifs....I guess that is a few steps up from good old ascii pr0n.
But then again...why go for either of those, when there is much better quality stuff out there all day?
Or..at least that's what I hear....
First rule of thumb, never talk to the cops. Shut up...and lawyer up, this is ESPECIALLY true if you are innocent.

Was this a legitimate rape?
Do you like gladiator movies?
I would have been a winner on that one...
Does anyone actually even USE gifs anymore??
I've not heard anyone even mention them in decades for the most part...
Aside from the odd animated gif here and there, I've not really thought I'd encountered one in a LONG time...
Shocked to see it as word of the year...
Yep...and neither are the Democrats rushing to remove the federal laws either.
I wish someone would answer me why it took a constitutional amendment to prohibit alcohol....and another one to re-instate it....why pot and other intoxicants were made illegal with the mere swipe of a pen?
Well, those are seeming to be where the most calls for suppression of previously free speech like this are currently coming from, no?
Ok, I can understand death threats...that is illegal, but what, pray tell, is racial abuse?
I mean, sure it might hurt someone's feeling to call them a stupid polack (sp?), gibbering chink, damned gook, or a fucking nigger....it isn't nice to say, or politically correct.

What the hell is an EDL?
I imagine that as Obamacare becomes more and more implemented, we're going to see more business have to make these kinds of decisions, especially with regard to part time help, etc.

Geez, just how LONG are they going to have baseball season? Seems to be almost 365 a year as it is....
Do that many people still actually watch and care about it?
I get more excitement watching cars rust in a field....
Why? Is there seriously a need to come up with new methods other than good old fashioned fucking?
On another note...when asking "why"....is it like we have some type of population problems? Not enough people being born? Are we running short of pussies to hold new kids?
