You know, I used to play with the nym remailers, and the mixmaster stuff....I tried to set up a nym acct. awhile back and could never get it to work again.
Not everyone is a nerd. Even so I do wonder how reliable the cyanogen modded HP Pad would run Android?
Well, so far, I have cyanogen mod7 Android running VERY well on my Barnes and Noble 'nook color' ereader...
If they can get it to turn an ereader into a fully functioning android tablet, I have faith they can get it to work just as well on a purpose built tablet.
And sorry to hear about the cash flow problems you're having...keep at it, you'll get back on the money train with us....
At an 80%+ discount and $100, its in the impulse buy range for a lot of people...
I hear ya....Hell, I've pissed away $100+ easily on a good night of drinking out and about town. I'd lay that down on a $99 tablet...especially with news that the cyanogen folks were working to get it to install on these units.
Well, I put my name on HP's email list for when they got more in...hoping they give those of us on the list the first chance at the new ones....I could go for a $99 toy to futz around with....something fun to do on the weekend.
I guess I've had my head in the sand recently..but I didn't realize until reading lately that "optical" was even on the way out.
I was reading on a mac forum trying to get info about what the next MBP's would be like...and many were clamoring for them to be like the MBAirs...to have no optical drive...and many were excited about this for some reason?!?!
I dunno...I know I'm getting well into the "get off my lawn" years...but I never like the idea of buying something, and not having a physical copy of it on my own physical media to keep!!
I've never bought a music file online.(mostly due to no lossless no DRM availability, but that's another rant)...but if offered in the formats I wanted with the ability to burn it to DVD/CD or other backup storage of my choice, I'd be good with that. I'm also good with ordering software online....as long as I can also get a hard copy. I've bought things like Guitar Pro and downloaded it. I also shelled out a couple extra bucks and had them ship me the DVD as a backup.
I dunno...if I'm going to buy something, I expect to have a physical copy for storage. I think we've already seen what can happen when a company goes out of business...and *poof* there goes your music or files you purchased. Or, like with Amazon and the copies of 1984 that were magically deleted from people that paid legitimately for it.
And even larger...for true computers...the walled garden is scary. That will give them the complete control over it they have long wanted.
I know CD's and DVD's don't last forever...but what does? At least with those, you can copy them to keep them fresh. If you don't have optical drives...what are you going to do it on? Are they next doing to regulate closer the USB drive?
I can't think of a really good reason NOT to have an optical drive...for CD, DVD and bluray....
OK, no problem, we'll raise Manhattan island about 20 feet to avoid storm surge. We'll raze all houses within 2 miles of the coast, we'll raze all houses within 2 miles of any river, creek, or bay. All trees near power lines will be cut, or alternatively, all above ground power lines will be moved underground. Is that a good start? That's for the NY/NJ area.
In Vermont, just move all towns that are near a river somewhere uphill.
I know you jest....but I have had more than a few people, many on this list here to seriously suggest the exact same things about New Orleans after Katrina...that we should move the entire damned city...
Everywhere you live, has threats from nature. Heck at least down here...we've not had any earthquakes, you know?
In all the housing developments and shopping centers I've worked around in the last twenty-five years, the service line is underground.
Dig a trench, put in conduit, run new line, defray some of the cost by recycling the old wiring and poles. To do it really right, put is a nice fiber optic connection to each building too, in separate conduit of course. Everything that can be put underground gets buried.
Depends on where you live and the water table. For example, here in New Orleans, we can't even bury the dead underground...so, we sure don't try to bury cables, etc.
I really do NOT want any form of payment to be available on my phone handset.
I'm trying to do less by credit, and more by cash these days.
I don't want another potential theft place either (my phone). It does plenty now...phone, txt, camera, games....but I prefer to keep my finances in my wallet. I rarely run the risk of pulling my wallet out and leaving it mistakenly on a counter somewhere....
Well, someone had to get the attention of the Executive branch...and the public. Obama is about to spend us into oblivion. He's run up more debt in less than 3 years that GW Bush did in his whole 8 years...
Could it have been handled better? Sure...but it did at least get them started talking about some serious reform we need. I dunno if it will actually happen, but at least it is on top of the conversation stack at this point.
And at the very least..even if they hadn't passed the ceiling raise (which I had no doubt they would at the last minute)...the US would still have paid its debts...we'd just have had to emergency cut some funding to programs, which might have been tough on some, but we'd have survived ok.
. If the SEC is guilty of total fraud sheltering billions of dollars in Wall Street theft, then expect the DOJ to go for the death sentence for Darcy Flynn.
Why on earth would you expect that?
Hell, there's been VERY little done to expose and try to get to the bottom of the 'Fast and Furious' scandal...which looks like WAS known about by Eric Holder, but why is there no investigation into this major SNAFU where numerous Mexicans AND US law enforcement agents and civilians have been killed by this royal fuckup?
Justice dept, Executive Branch and Congress haven't exactly shown the usual fortitude in trying to get to the bottom of this, when it looks a good deal like it goes straight to the top of many departments on who knew of and signed off on this fiasco.
ON the other hand..you might be right..would be a nice little headline to distract from the FAF controversy.
Actually I did read it..but to me, it sounded like he could no longer have the taco account...that he would have to lose that whole account, not just the ability to post.
And frankly...I think they should allow him to keep THAT priv too even if he can keep the taco account.
You're right, money talks. The regular patrons get the say because they spend more money over all. (And don't dare quote that fucking "double a normal take" quote at me, that's one bar for one night versus a continuous income over the entire year.)
Hear hear!!!
Just let me into my bar, where I'll have drinks, smoke a few cigarettes...and generally have a fun time. I'm regular at a number of watering holes, they know my name because I'm friendly, I come often, and I tip very well.
Because of that, I get met at the bar often with my preferred drink. No problem when I want to have them turn up the juke box or tv, or change a channel...etc.
Yes, since I'm local and a regular, I do tend to get preferential treatment over someone else that isn't. Heck, I've had a couple people try something with me, and guess what? Their asses were the FIRST ones thrown out....a regular customer is usually more 'right' than a walk-in off the street.
Amen to that. Spectating is horribly boring. I'd rather play the sport or video game myself than watching some guys I don't care about do it.
In some cases..yes.
But during college football season, I LOVE to go to the local bars where you can get good food, good drinks, yell and scream with friends, and most of all....pick up on some cute chicks in the bar that have had a few beers!!
You can't do that very easily when on the play field, or sitting at home in front of your TV on a video game.
For me, going out to watch some sports (and I'm not a huge sports fan mind you), is as much about a socialization event as anything else.
One of my fav places is: Cooter Brown's. Their FOOD menu is as good as their beer menu I linked to. I can't wait for oyster season to kick in during CFB season...good beer, oysters and college chicks running around. Life is good.
The nice thing about traditional bathroom reading material is the fact that it is disposable. It doesn't matter if it gets wet. It doesn't matter if it's contaminated. It's not something that's going to be dragged out of the bathroom and then through an airport and then hang around your mother's coffee table.
I dunno, I gotta think if you're pissing and shitting on your reading material....you're doing it all wrong!!
Are they still out there and still functioning?
Well, so far, I have cyanogen mod7 Android running VERY well on my Barnes and Noble 'nook color' ereader...
If they can get it to turn an ereader into a fully functioning android tablet, I have faith they can get it to work just as well on a purpose built tablet.

$99 is definitely impulse buy for many people....
Well, I put my name on HP's email list for when they got more in...hoping they give those of us on the list the first chance at the new ones....I could go for a $99 toy to futz around with....something fun to do on the weekend.
Kids don't work any more these days?
I guess I've had my head in the sand recently..but I didn't realize until reading lately that "optical" was even on the way out.

I mean, they have hurricanes with flooding, earthquakes, and it is a high profile terrorist target.
They should move the whole city....
I mean...that's what they suggested for New Orleans after Katrina....
I'm guessing they won't have a 'classic' look and feel option?
I really do NOT want any form of payment to be available on my phone handset.

No more taco options in the polls?
They just won't be the same...
Is this come kind of corporate thing? If so...just not fair....they guy started the thing...he should have access and account for life...
Because they want to fuck them?
Hell, that's pretty much the only reason any man even pays any attention to a woman...to get in her pants.
You know the old joke, "Why do women have breasts?"
"So men will talk to them..."
Hear hear!!!

Full contact chess....?
No...but sounds like a.neat.new.way.for.Russian spies.to.get in the country and back again...
Wake up with a smile on your face every morning.
I was reading on the site...and starting to wonder if you had to have a FB account to use this.
Sad...I was thinking of doing it, but I don't have, nor do I plan on having a facebook account at anytime in the future.
I dunno, I gotta think if you're pissing and shitting on your reading material....you're doing it all wrong!!
