"And get only local channels. Everything else needs a CableCARD."
Well...I can scan the cable, and find all the local channels on HD. But for analog, I still get all of the expanded basic channels...and I've heard tale, that some people can do this with only paying for a cable internet connection, and just tap in and get all these 'free' tv channels.
So, you get local programming this way...and for special shows, well, that's what DVD's are for, and I've also heard tale that many things like this can be downloaded on the internet.
I don't pay for a settop box, or a cable card, but I find that I have all the TV I would ever like to watch...and I'm quite the TV junkie. At my place at least 2-3 tvs are on when I'm there, and the last one turns off with a timer when I fall asleep. I use that as my nightlight.
"People are different, I suppose. Smells make me remember places and times, but not people. People don't have smells to me. "
Thanks, I was wondering about this. I mean, I don't "smell" people, unless it is BO, or maybe perfume/cologne they are wearing, but just a persons natural smell...I don't know that I experience that at all.
I've had allergies all my life, so, I do spend an LOT of time with my nose plugged or semi-plugged, maybe that's it...?
I know people DO have odors, but honestly, I just thought it was something that only animals with much more highly sensitive olfactory organs could detect.
"I love children and can not imagine why people would not want them around. They make you feel younger and are a joy to watch. "
Depends....IMHO, they're ok, as long as they're somebody elses.
:)
I think it's great that most people do like and want to have kids. I kinda did early on, but glad at this point I did not. Most people I know that had them...got married right out of high school...or perhaps in college. And by definition, HAD to settle down. Me? I've worked various, interesting jobs, traveled, met lots of great friends from around the country and have really had a number of adventures. It made me who I am now, and I kinda like that. I'd not have been able to do all that, nor do all the stuff I do NOW if I had wife and kids anchoring me down. I'm just now starting to slow down a bit as I get older...who knows? Perhaps I will settle down with one chick...I dunno.
But like everything else in life, there are trade offs. You can't have it all. I'm a guy...but heck, I know one girl I've known for years, and she did not want any kids from a young age...and had her tubes tied like at age 18 or so...
So, I guess it depends on what you want in life. I've not been around young kids much..only held a baby once, and didn't find it to be the earth shaking experience others do. I think I would have made a good Dad if they were mine..but as an outsider looking in on that kind of life...I say, "Good for you", but please would you control your young offspring while out in public?
And for God's sake...don't take kids to a restaurant finer than on the level of a Chuckie Cheese's pizza place until they are old enough to sit and behave themselves. Don't ruin the dinner (or flight on an airplane) for those around you because you can't control little Johnny.

"I've always found it a bit hypocritical to not allow more bars/pubs/dispensaries in local neighborhoods (at least in the US) because of all the NIMBYs, which makes greater chances that people go out, drink, and drive back home even slightly over the limit."
That's one thing that is nice about New Orleans...the old concept of the "neighborhood bar" is still somewhat alive and well.
Little hole in the wall places throughout the city, where people literally do "know your name" when you walk in.
I have one 2 blocks from my house...and several more just a few more blocks than that. Even the furthermost away from me that I like to hit..is easily navigated through back roads.
"You could probably get off on some sort of technicality even if you were actually driving drunk."
Well, and this depends on what state you live in...laws vary, but first thing to do...don't say SHIT to the cops. Here...you refuse the breath test, and for God's sake in my most every state, don't do the small tests they do, walking a straight line, touching your nose...that does NOTHING but give them probably cause, and they now film it..so, it is just evidence gathering.
If it is your first offense, and you are trashed and you know it...face it, you're going to jail. Just don't say anything, and put your hands out for the cuffs. Refuse any test you can. Even in states where refusing is an automatic loss of license for like 6mos or so...better than a DWI on your record. And even with that, and this is step #2 lawyer up...and your lawyer can generally get you a license waiver or temp or whatever they call it in your state...so that you can still drive to and from work, and often for groceries. That will get you by.
Also, (again lawyer up, less money that a DWI conviction)...a good atty can usually plead it down to something like wreckless driving. It sucks..but still MUCH better than a DWI. If first offense, you can usually get by on this.
Should people drive smashed? No. But with them lowering the BAC drunk limits to.08...a ridiculously low number, a grown man CAN be very close to it with like 3x glasses of wine with a meal, which is not unreasonable.
And lets face it...at least in the US, bars are everywhere...they all have BIG parking lots, so, don't kid yourself that people, a LOT of people go out, drink...and will have to drive home. Fact of life no matter how you wanna argue it. Likely the overwhelming majority of people leaving a bar...are legally drunk. Most everyone makes it home.
But to allow bars to serve people with cars...it is a bit hypocritical to have such low BAC to catch people and try to enforce it so much, if they also allow the situation that encourages such behavior to be so plentiful and accepted.
If nothing else...there should be a much more subjective test. The problem is impaired driving. Some people can't drive on 2 beers...some have virtually no effect on 5. A 250lb grown man can easily handle more drinks than a 110lb woman.
"The "great looks" part disappears around age 30. Sometimes sooner (25) if she let's herself go, or later (35) is she watches her weight but eventually the looks go-away, and your wife ends-up looking like a middle-aged grandma."
Err....that's why you don't marry them...so you can trade up every few years.
:)
Really, unless you really WANT to have kids, what is the reason for getting married? Frankly the thought of trading half of everything I own for a 'possible' lease on the same pussy for life...just doesn't add up on the balance sheet for me.
At worst...just live with them, it's kind of like leasing with an option to buy.
"I couldn't get MobileTerminal to work, either, so I just got iSSH from the app store. Well worth it, IMO, it can SSH to 127.0.0.1 and remote systems, too."
Yeah, I'd read about that one...but so far, I've not yet bought a single item (apps, songs, videos) from iTunes, and was trying to keep it that way.
Just curious...I have iPhone 3GS. Just used the jailbreakme.
The main thing I wanted to do this for..was to get a good free terminal, so I could ssh into my boxes at home.
The first thing I installed was the MobileTerminal program under Feature Package. Whenever I try to run it..it promptly crashes.
Is there another terminal out there that works?
Also, I'm not finding a great deal of information about what all packages are out there, with good descriptions. The on Cydia...the descriptions if any are not terribly helpful.
Is there a good site out there that lists programs available for JB phone, with good descriptions...maybe even with a rating system for people to mark what works and doesn't?
I'm new to this...and having a hard time finding good solid info out there...
"If your comment is an autobiography of your sex life, I feel bad for you and your spouse. Whatever you do to ignite each other's passions obviously isn't enough."
Why would I want a spouse? I don't want kids...so, no need to get married.
If not getting married...why only stick with and bang only one chick? That gets boring really quick, and hell....half the fun is the hunt.
"Yes, Ive had 10+ sexual partners in my life, Im 27 "
You're still young...but get busy man!!
By the time I was your age, I'd already lost count of the number of girls I'd banged.
And back in my day..they weren't as easy as they are today!
And man...if you only think of sex as a way to procreate, I feel for you man. I think you have it backwards, marriage is only for those that want to procreate....sex is for everyone.
"Sex isn't passionate or anywhere near as enjoyable when you've got a veritable police lineup of cheap whores at your every beck and call. "
Hmm...I'm guessing you're never had a veritable police lineup of cheap whores at your beck and call before?
Different chicks have different things to offer man...some are better at riding you cowgirl (grinding), others give mindblowing blowjobs...others...well, will get really freaky.
If you're stuck with one women (especially one that has eaten of the dreaded wedding cake)...you're pretty stuck in one dimensional land. It gets routine, you know when she'll put her foot there, when she'll moan oh baby...and you know every time she's gonna say "Oh Hell No you ain't putting it there".
Hell, even if she did do special stuff for you before...9 times outta ten, wedding cake makes that disappear because she doesn't have to try to 'land' you any longer...
"One guy who marries a woman, loves her and has mind-blowing sex with her three times a week, is clearly ahead of some guy with an iPhone who had ten one-night stands."
Ok...I'm still thinking the guy with 10 one night stands wins.
Assuming the guy with 10 one night stands is in one week too...10 times having sex, vs 3 times for the married guy. Or if only one time a night, over 10 nights..he still beats the married guy.
That and he doesn't risk losing half the shit he owns if he goes in search of new partners for more sex.
"Another way to look at the study is that iPhone owners are insufferable idiots not prepared to make the compromises necessary to stay in a long term relationship, hence the greater number of "partners"."
Who wants to bang the same chick night after night after night?
Ok, it might be good for some...but variety is the spice of life.
Heard the old joke?
"I'm gonna invent a new version of Playboy just for married men...
Every night......same chick"

Cell phone...ok, you got me now, but wanting to get one of those pouches that will block the signal when I want it to.
Funny, I thought about it the other day when looking at some cars...was looking at one of the newer Corvettes, and it seemed ALL of the damned things had OnStar. I asked the salesman if I could order one without it...confused he said he didn't think so. I didn't buy...
I'm wanting one, but damn...guess I'm gonna have to study up first how to best disable OnStar myself, without screwing up any of the other electronics in the car.
Sad that it is NOT an option anymore on some autos....some of us want LESS.
What one generation accepts...
Are these the Free To Air boxes I've heard of, that you can hack into to receive *ahem* other signals with?
Comcast is the only one I've heard of doing this. Cox isn't so far.
Any others you know of that are doing this?
Well...I can scan the cable, and find all the local channels on HD. But for analog, I still get all of the expanded basic channels...and I've heard tale, that some people can do this with only paying for a cable internet connection, and just tap in and get all these 'free' tv channels.

Enough said...
I was looking at it...but with a wary eye, much like I look at FaceBook..from a privacy stand point.
What do you see in FS that is positive...and might convince me to look into it and override my privacy concerns?
"Cumming to a theater near you!!!!"
Money shot in 3D?!?!?!
