You are assuming that this is being stored in a organism of some sort which could "evolve" or that is it laid out in any sort of helix pattern with a self-replication mechanism intact.

If you want to do anything beyond making a few crap apps like Amarok or crappy abstract wallpapers with Gimp, then you would want to use either OS X or windows. OS X offers the cocoa frameworks for creating amazing desktop apps but those are only useful if you are making a mac specific application or if your common code is separated from the platform specific code.

I have to admit, I agree with the wingnut theory. I lived in Canada till the end of the 90s. No development in infrastructure for decades; not enough hospital beds but grand parking lots and shopping malls. The destruction of Studio D (in favour of the American content Mafia) and the relentless attacks on culture and the poor through a decade of prosperity, the 90s finally did me in. I had grown up country that gradually, but surely disappeared.

Last summer, I visited my brothers in BC (Victoria). American SUV parking lot. Practically impossible to cycle (safely) on the Island. And it's evident that people live in fear! They're afraid to have opinions. They're afraid to drink a beer in the park.

There isn't much difference between Canada and the US any more.

I've been in Berlin, Germany for a decade now. I'm not going back. The cost of living here is less and I have MORE space in a smaller country. Absurd, but to my advantage as it is.

You "visited" Victoria and I lived there most of my life. Big difference. No infrastructure for decades? Really? So the HD television, phone and high speed internet that I get through my phone line is my imagination? The Dual HSDPA and LTE that I enjoy is my imagination? The fully automated (driverless) skytrain system in Vancouver did not launch in 1986 and continue to expand over the decades? The Coquihalla highway did not see upgrades over the years? The Sea to Sky project never happened? I suppose the bypass in Nanaimo Bypass was never built and that Duke Point Ferry Terminal does not exist either?

So you never heard of the Galloping Goose Trail? It is famous for cycling in Victoria and the the Western Communities. Try googling "cycling vancouver island". The majority of buses in the Greater Victoria region have bike racks on the front of the bus.

Yeah, drinking in a park is considered taboo in a lot of countries. Parks are generally meant for everyone to enjoy but especially families. If you want to drink beer, go to your friends house in their backyard or go to a pub. There is on on every block practically in downtown Victoria.

I was born in Europe and I have visited several European cities in the last decade including London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Frankfurt and Helsinki. Perhaps you should visit some other countries including other European ones before you start judging Canada. I hate to break it to you but Berlin is not representative of the whole of Europe.

To be honest, the Nexus 7 blows the iPad out of the water. The Nexus 7 is the best tablet device I've ever gotten my hands on, for less than half the price of an iPad.

It also has a lower resolution, less storage, a smaller battery and less app for it.

It's more customizable, easier to get content, and with the soft back - easier to hold.

    http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Google-Nexus-7,Apple-iPad-3/phones/7143,5715
More customizable? I guess you need to fiddle with it because it comes setup so poorly and you have to do something out of boredom whereas iPad users "use" their devices. I can customize the lockscreen background, wallpaper, notifications and alert sounds. What more do I need? I could also jailbreak it if I really wanted to do more tweaking but I prefer stability and security over futzing around. Content? Yeah, as long and the music is in MP3 format whereas the iPad supports MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, WAV, M4A (Apple lossless). For video, the iPad also supports more formats and third party apps easily support additional formats. Games and apps are more plentiful on the IPad as well.

Services are more integrated than the iPad, IMHO, you could get by fine without having a computer to sync up with the Nexus 7.

What services? Google services? What if I don't want to use Google+? You can get by without syncing to a computer on an iPad since the release of iOS 5.0.

With the Nexus 7 you can download Torrent clients and apps such as Music Paradise to get all of your content, while there really isn't any alternative to the iTunes store with the iPad unless you root it.

Oh, I get it, you mean pirated shit. I thought you meant quality content.

Google Now works very well, I rarely type things in because the voice recognition is so accurate.

The Nexus 7 is a very nice device. I don't see why anyone would choose an iPad over the Nexus 7 right now.

How much did you get paid for that post Mr. Google shill? Yeah, why would anyone choose an iPad with its higher resolution and more apps and commercial games when you can get a device with less apps and less storage.

Optimization is extremely important on mobile platforms where battery life is a limited quantity and the end user expect to run unplugged for an extended period of time.

The reason why iOS on the tablet is so popular is that Apple developed a unique set of controls for the iPad form factor from the first release of the iPad OS and they also provided an easy way to have "universal" apps that target both phones and tablets.

The other major reasons are the power of the API and Apple's promotion of paid apps. At first, Google did not give a rat's arse about whether developers could make money on Android because Google is an advertising company at heart. They view the users as the "product" that they sell to advertisers. They really don't care about you at all unless if they see you start leaving their platform. Privacy is seen as a nuisance at Google which gets in the way of making money for them.

In a nutshell, users of Android devices and developers are seen as a means to an end rather than customers and partners.

I hate to break it to you but ST TNG is a fictional TV show. They used props made out of painted wood with some plastic pieces and a silkscreened "display" rather than an animated one. Any animation that you saw on screen would have been added later on in post production. They could have easily just used a solid grey rectangle and added everything onto the surface in post but that would have been a lot of work to since most prop PADDs only appeared either on desks in the background or briefly on screen with the screen facing the camera.
