The iPhone3GS already has built in hardware level encryption of the entire storage device. It also has BSD jails for apps to run inside of and there is the Appstore approval process.

This "software" could not be ordinary software but would rather require Apple opening up the OS to third party extensions which ran at a privileged level above the sandboxes. I just don't see that every happening for a couple of reasons.

    1. The Kaspersky software itself could have exploitable flaws and given that it would be running at a higher privilege level than regular apps, that opens up a new attack vector for web based exploits to use.

    2. Such software would potentially slow the OS down and cause a significant battery drain for no real gain of protection.

Much has been made about FUD articles that say that other apps can access contacts without asking for permission. No shit sherlock. That is a "feature" of the official API and the app approval process is supposed to ferret out nefarious uses of contact lists. I would hate to see UAC style boxes for apps each time I wanted to see a contact list in a third party app.

First of all, stop calling yourself a developer. You are a flash/web designer. People who "develop" in flash are not developers. You don't have the rigours of test driven development and the tool you guys use are not part of a "development" suite. Flash is part of the "creative suite". I used to be a web guy but I would not dare call myself a "developer" until I went beyond HTML and javascript to write server side logic, data access and calculation/validation code.

Second, your admission that you work with Flash for a living taints your answer. Flash is not on the iPhone because it ran like crap on non-windows platforms until the 10.1 beta which is out now and we don't know how well their beta for iPhone OS would run. I'm currently running the 10.1 beta on Snow Leopard and my iMac is running about 8 celsius cooler than before when I was browsing the web. 2. The hover problem. This can affect HTML sites also but to a far lesser degree. It is also easy to provide alternatives to hover.

    3. HTML and CSS are part of the W3C standards while Flash is a proprietary web plugin. It does not run within the browser renderer.

    4. Because Flash is proprietary, languages such as Java and C# cannot dynamically generate flash content or modify flash content. You can pass in parameters but that is not the same thing. It is a black box.

MacOS is to business desktop computing in much the same way linux is...you can use it, but you need to develop the tools for administering it (or use some open source tools, etc).

Combine that with restricting macs to network logins with home directories stored on the server and you have one central point for configuration management and backup of user data.

Also, I seriously doubt you'll be able to transfer files to and from the iPad with anything other than email. They don't like to give people access to the internal storage because it makes it easier to find exploits

They have stated that there will be a shared storage area on the iPad. We will have to wait and see but it is conceivable that you will be able to sync files onto the device wirelessly and possibly via USB through iTunes.

The problem with connecting it as a drive is that it will most likely use HFS+ which is not natively supported on windows. So it is more likely that you will have to use either iTunes or wireless syncing to get files on and off the device.
