Actually the 9th circuit (although in my opinion has the best track record for good rulings that I've seen) is basically the laughing stock of the rest of the court system, their rulings are overturned constantly.
Because idiots out there feel that mixed case, spaces and tons of characters in the middle of filenames are somehow acceptable. now if you'd said darwin_compat that might be bet... oh wait a min...
Seriously, try typing your name and then compat_darwin 2000 times.
unless of course you want any sort of interaction with graphics whatsoever....
no really, some tasks are faster with a gui than cli. Many things are more quickly accomplished with a cli. Both are valuable, none of the above really require the bloated gui's in use by most but gui's can be valuable nonetheless.
If the tasks were simple and easy like the average gamer wants then the games could be mastered in a short period of time like a couple months (like those the average gamer plays).
This isn't valid for the audience that plays these games (largely consisting of old AD&D'ers moving to digital form). AD&D was too complex for the average video gamer and hence these games will be too. To be honest these games are far simpler than their old pen and paper counterparts.
From a business prospective it makes no sense either... a mmorpg that stops getting played after a couple months is worthless. Players are better hooked for terms of years to compensate for the drastically higher developement costs. Currently these games (such as DAOC with the TOA expansion) are THE example of state of the art graphics.
Oh I fear you misunderstand, I'm not saying the actual copyright holders don't have the right to nail them for copy infringment, they most certainly do.
I'm merely saying that cocoatech has wronged both sides, the copyright holder AND those who have purchased a copy (or thought they did) of the software. No matter what they do henceforth they have commited copyright infringment (even if they gpl the software or remove iterm).
If they don't provide a refund or give the customers who have already purchased a legitimate copy (gpl'd or with iterm removed but with the same capabilities!) then they've commited fraud as well. They've just sold them the london bridge, now they either give the money back or they cough up the london bridge.
This is the iron behind the regular consumer's claim to the source. It applies only to those who have already paid though and not to every slashdotter undoubtedly pounding for it;)
Actually they designed them to kill animals. But our right to have them is protected so the people can overthrow the government if it should become tyranical. Cannon's on the other hand were designed to bash down walls.
The government claims its so we can kill animals (guess they don't want overthrown nowdays) and under this guise has banned any weapon which would allow reasonable protection.
ok, he said there are PROBABLY millions and went on to explain the probably by saying there was no real way to measure the number.
The logic by which you determine he is claiming that "millions" is a statement of fact and not as he clearly expressed a guess, is the same logic by which you ignore the fact that Switzerland with mandatory gun ownership has the lowest crime rate in the world.
The customers do not have a copy under normal copyright law either. If I steal a book and then sell it to you, the FBI may come at any time and take the book away because you do not legally own it. This is no different, cocoatech has no legal right to distribute and therefore the distributed copies are NOT legal, under regular copyright or their license.
"Ignoring drought for the moment (like you seem to be doing), even without RTFA I can tell you that these tests were conducted in Morocco. Morocco as in "middle of the freakin' Sahara" Morocco. "80% of the surface" is all well and good until you recall that the distribution is far from homogeneous."
yes I'm sure this is really going to help the rainfall in morocco which is already critically low.
"Depending on the contract/license, you probably can't even get your money back"
ok, let's try this again. THEIR LICENSE IS VOID.
"As the end user, you have a license to use the iTerm software (It's GPL'ed, just don't distribute the software, and it's all good)."
This one is difficult I know, since iterm is gpl'd, but it's not magically gpl'd under all circumstances and any situation. It's only gpl'd if it has been distributed to you under the gpl by the authors of iterm or by someone else who recieved it under the gpl. CocoaTech did NOT distribute it under the gpl, because they did comply with the gpl's terms and therefore cannot do so. The intermediary NEVER HAD THE RIGHTS TO BEGIN WITH, this isn't a case of they had em and lost them, they complied to start with and therefore never had them.
Cocoatech is guilty of copyright infringment yes, but they are also guilty of fraud if they don't gpl the software or refund the money to those who have purchased it. They have been paid and never delivered what was paid for.
The customers can compel cocoatech to provide a refund or gpl the code since as things currently stand the customers have paid but do not own a license to the software!
Sure, for a regular game, for a game that charges a subscription it's a bit different. Those tens of thousands buy all the expansions for the game, each of which is another game sale and they pay that on top of the subscriptions.
They have no legal right to license it under anything other than the GPL, whatever other license they've distributed it under is void. It's terms are void, it's conditions are void.
Who says it has to revolve around a few well known characters with scripted fates? It could just be set in the same worlds. For instance after recreating middle earth, why have the scripted characters there at all? Sure maybe the timeless ones like Treebeard and the ents, and maybe the elves but the timeframe can be set after the books rather than before or during.
It's good to remember that 90% of the people who play these games don't actually roleplay or give a damn about the world, and neither will tolkien fans after a month playing. They go for the gameplay, if there isn't TON's of content and things to do than nobody will last for more than a few months. MMORPG's are VERY successful, they each have tens of thousands of players.
When their current model gets them that many players paying a subscription for YEARS (players who last a couple months never go beyond newbie status) why on earth would they change it?
A wallet is a single device that exists for one purpose.
A credit card is as well, it's more like consolidating all your creditcards into one card with 1/3 of the total credit-limit, all your debit cards into the same card but it costs you two dollars for every dollar you spend, all your grocery cards into that one card but it's only good for 3 uses, and all your gas cards into it, but they only work on tuesdays.
Now you have one card, it doesn't work NEARLY as well as the individual cards did, but hey it's only one card. oh yeah, and the plastic is less durable, it biodegrades in less than 3 months sitting in your wallet, the magnetic strip is lower quality as well, it's only good for a few reads.
Although not like a multi-function device, there is truth to what you said before as well. Not even old farmers who refuse to use banks are stupid enough to carry all their cash, cards, id, etc in their wallet. By using a bank you are recognizing that putting all your eggs in one basket is a bad idea. Surely you wouldn't carry ALL of your cards in your wallet either unless you only have one or are incredibly fscking stupid. You carry a small traveling subset, maybe $50, one credit card with sufficient limit in case of an emergency, your debit in case you need more cash, etc.
Because it only costs $5 less than all 3 and if one goes out you've just lost all 3 devices. Besides that it makes a for a big clunky device that is as cheap a POS as a multifunction printer is. Multi-function printers are a bad idea, and so are these.
You can pick up a used laserjet 3/3d on ebay for about $70 (that's with shipping), those things are freaking tanks and the D's of course have a duplexer, which is perfect for manual printing.
Now THAT I absolutely agree with. All I was getting at is that if they remove the gpl'd code and DON'T offer a refund than they've slightest existing customers.
Besides that I still don't think they want those copies out there. Since their license agreements are invalid they could be held accountable due to loses for bugs and data corruption etc.
I'm sorry but the 2.2kernel is hopelessly out of date yes. In the world of technology if it's 3 months old, that pretty out of date, if it's a year old, that's really out of date. If the information is SEVERAL years obsolete (like TWO stable major revisions of the kernel obsolete) then yes, that's pretty dang out there;)
Actually the 9th circuit (although in my opinion has the best track record for good rulings that I've seen) is basically the laughing stock of the rest of the court system, their rulings are overturned constantly.
That assumes you buy into the propoganda and actually BELIEVE there is a lack of government censorship.
That would be because there's not much to be pro about in america these days.

For most running at home, all web services and the firewall are likely to be running on the same box.

yeah isn't that great!!! ummm wait, sony only makes ONE mmorpg that I know of.
