  1. Fountain drinks are better on Pepsi Moving To Bottles Made of Plant Material · · Score: 1

We shouldn't even be using bottles and cans for soft drinks. A fountain drink machine that dispenses the soda into paper cups would be a better solution. That is, the convenient places to get a soft drink like a pizza shop or convenience store have the space to just as easily install a fountain drink/ice dispenser for the drinks then they do the refrigerators for the drinks. Environment advantage would go to the fountain drink machine. Bottles and cans is purely a marketing decision to take up shelf space. There are also make your pop at home kits/machines too.

One of the culprits are grocery stores where there will always sell pop. The high margins, takes shelf space which people must browse and they probably get money from manufacturer for placement.

I'm trying to kick my habit of drinking pop. That would be the best option environmentally and for my health too.

I had the opportunity to go on the flight deck and in the plane hangar area as when the Enterprise was at port in my city many years ago. I don't think anyone can truly appreciate the size and scope of one of the carriers until you get on board. You can store a lot of relief supplies on board.

I think it might also help improve foreign relations by having an unarmed carrier serving to provide relief supplies. If they basically decommissioned it of all secret military technology, is there any chance this could be a UN operated vessel? This would help defray the costs, prevent some politically minded that the "US" is here instead the "UN" is here. I think it might involve taking the nuclear plant out of the carrier and the plane catapult among other things. But all told will still be perfectly operable, have all the store

There will likely be future rocket launches for satellites. I'd just like to experience the rumble and hear the sounds. I grew up living near an airforce base and I've always been fascinated in watching planes and space shuttles, rockets by extension. I know this can also be waiting game. If they say they will launch at 9:00 on the 1st of March it might be a week before clear weather patterns show up. I'd at the very least like to see Apple include FLAC support into iTunes. There are various hacks to do this. I've ripped my entire CD collection (300 I think) into FLAC format for backup purposes. I generally tried to centralize my music collection into iTunes but haven't been able to with the FLAC tracks. I think it would either mean converting to MP3 or ALAC (waste of space) or continue to use XMBC (don't like the interface) or some other program. I personally like the iTunes interface.

I don't have kids yet. Some of my perfectly normal friends from university and high-school have kids. When I've met them with their kids or didn't know they had them (oh ... I have kids), they are really over-protective. Much more so than my parents, our neighbors and our community ever used to be with their kids.

So what's changed? Is is all the 9/11 stuff or is something else that triggered out society to be this way? I can't help but think that (even though I'm in Canada) with all this security paranoia that this is one of the reasons. Kids used to have monsters in their closet and under the bed now its "terrorists" and child predators. They are everywhere. Then, of course, http://yro.slashdot.org/story/11/02/19/2134202/Musician-Jailed-Over-Prank-YouTube-Video, yesterdays' news article certainly has some backing to this ideay. I can't help but fell uncomfortable if some cute kid walks buy smiling and laughing to smile or say 'hello' anymore. I'm just turned 30 and I don't see why this isn't ok. People used to do that to me and my sister, my neighbors' kids, kids in our community and it was perfectly ok. People used to touch my hair (curly, blond afro) all the time. I thought it was funny, still do. My parents thought it was perfectly fine... they never called the police. The swat team would probably be called in now.

Seriously this is FUCKED UP and I'm hoping we can change as a society and return to what used to be normal.

I don't understand child psychology very well but I do with adult psychology. Something changed. The Dr. Spock's baby type books (for parents unsure how to treat their child) seems to be revamped and tell parents to lock the house up and don't let the kid out. Homeschool them, don't let them out. Bad people are everywhere to purposefully rob your children of their innocence. Parents are buying this stuff up left right and center without any moral dilemma.

Adults of my generation need to preserve the society our parents cherished and keep that way. The Internet didn't really change anything. The parents have changed too much. The generation we're raising in North American society today is not going to preserve the good natured, humble people we once were.

My impression on this situation is that Apple feels iTunes has been the catalyst to its success. Now that they have a huge % share of music sales, gaining on Wal-Mart which is an impressive feat, they are kicking themselves in the arse for not getting a higher price on each song sale. So now that they have new products available incl books and magazines, they know they can get more money from the publishers.

If anything the bandwidth and storage costs for a book is miniscule compared to an album so not only the 30% markup, but also less to transfer the goods to the customer. Not a bad deal for Apple.

Though I can't relate with Netflix, this is a common problem with Cable/Satellite TV options, because there is one channel I really, really, want to get but CRTC regs are blocking the channel. So there's a channel in Canada that offers it but they are like 4 seasons behind. If you want to legally get it asap, you can always buy the DVDs in the store. I totally agree, they are a business. If their product bombs too bad for them, please don't pass on the us. I really don't feel sorry or give a shit.

My point, is that everyone in Hollywood wants a cut - some times too large of a piece to make a profit. Its greed plain and simple. That raises the costs of production. They artificially raise the prices of their products to make up for the the movies that bombed - whether by $200 million or $500 dollars.

The MPAA and the studios are trying to point the finger *at us* that it is our problem. Either we don't buy enough or we don't pay enough.

Its clearly a problem with their business model.

Not my fault, not your fault.

  23. Re:there once was a time on MPAA Threatens To Disconnect Google From Internet · · Score: 1

The problem is that directors and some actors expect to be paid a ungodly sum of money to make movies. I say some, because many actors never "make it big" in the business. The process of making a movie now involves hundreds of people, consultants, stunt and pyro people, lawyers, advertising and marketing folks that since everyone wants a piece of the pie, the prices to go see a movie keep increasing evermore ditto PPV, retail DVD/Blu-ray and rentals.

I would care more for Hollywood productions if they made more feel-good movies and not these super high budget productions. My favorite movies in the last 10 years or so are all Direct to Video, likely have small production costs, are entertaining and I've generally bought the discs (albeit used or on sale) and not regretted the purchase. I know about the big-budget type movies. You don't have to advertise those anymore people KNOW about them already and I do watch them in the theater. Spend more money advertising the little heard about movies people might want to buy instead.

MPAA also spending money advertising movies as though they are music - watch hundreds of times. I dunno about others, but I play CDs at least 50 times or more, but there aren't any movies I've watched 50 times (maybe Ferris Bueler's Day Off being the exception!).
