Happy Tree Friends then? Who can live without cute and cuddly animals? And even better: Cute and cuddly animals being subjected to the most horrible of accidents resulting in a HUGE splattering of blood and body parts!s:)
Think more like: "Pay X Euro per day until you have fixed the problem or stop selling your wares in EU." And if they go for long enough without fixing it, then I don't think there is anything stopping EU from raising the daily fines if they think that MS has chosen to just accept the fines as a cost of doing business in EU.
Is it too late to mod parent down? As you can readily see, he has been spamming that post ALL OVER the thread.
Moron! Noone is going to take you seriously when you do that.

Consider this: Microsoft's EULA states that you may not publish a review of.Net's performerance without their explicit written permission. Now tell me if you really think that there will be any negative reviews of it?
Well... here in Denmark, we have very strict regulations on the quality of tap water wheras bottled water may contain a rather high amount of bacteria per litre. Around here you get ripped off twice: It's more expensive, and you get a better product from your tap (there's probably more calcium in the tap water too).
There's a lot to be said for strict regulations on something as important as water supply (and power, California!)
From the preamble of the GPL:
"Finally, any free program is threatened constantly by software patents. We wish to avoid the danger that redistributors of a free program will individually obtain patent licenses, in effect making the program proprietary. To prevent this, we have made it clear that any patent must be licensed for everyone's free use or not licensed at all."
Sorry, but that is not possible. Which is why something like XviD is in violation of the GPL even though they claim that the source is distributed under the terms of said license (They should have rolled their own license, I guess...).
They ran through all of Q1 in 59:31 getting all kills and secrets on nightmare diff. Quite impressive to lean back and watch actually. Total mayhem for almost an hour:)
Their run of Q2 (Q2DQ2) was also impressive. I loved the quad rocket jump from water and how they skipped almost the entire power unit by some fancy grenade jumping. Makes me want to install the game again to see it actually:)
Personally, I don't think that Bink is all that amazing. For one, it's Windows-only (IIRC, Bioware learned that the hard way while working on NWN for linux) and apart from that, I don't think that its quality is all that great. I clearly remember that the detail on the movies in Diablo 2 was less than impressive and there was serious banding whereever there was a slight gradient - as if the codec only allowed a low number of different colours in any one area.
Buying anime from amazon is a sure fire way to get poor. I have good experiences with www.animecornerstore.com. They have a HUGE selection and they do international shipping as well
Trigun is indeed good light-hearted fun for the most part, and that is what I don't like about it. For its genre, I think it is quite good, but (IMO) it could have been so much more. It could have been a character driven show about the decisions Vash have to make, but it delves far too little into that for my taste. Either you go there, or you don't. "There is no try" as our favourite little green fellow would say. Instead Trigun goes with a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and the sum ends up being less than that of the parts.
Oh, and it is going to be dubbed... bleh... not worth spending your time on anyway.
> No matter what the sample rate of whatever your source mp3 will cut it off at 16khz
Not true! While this is true for the Xing encoder which a lot of bad CD-ripper applications use, LAME or the Fraunhofer mp3 encoders do not mangle the sound as much. Try and get a good compile of LAME from HA and do a "lame --alt-preset standard file.wav" and open the resulting wave file in Cool Edit and have it show you the frequency stats of the created mp3. You shouldn't use this for a comparison of sound quality though - your ears are still the only useful tool for that, but what it will show you that you are wrong.
You might have heard of the Nyquist theorem before, which states that when storing audio data using PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) the highest frequency you can have it half the samplerate. Thus there are no frequencies higher than 22.05kHz on a CD (because their samplerate is 44.1kHz).
From what I gather from the forums on HA, Windows Media Audio 9 is not particularly good, which doesn't come as a huge surprise to me, as they seem to have more people working there who are (relatively) good at coding, but not as good at understanding psy-models and the intricasies of psychoacoustic encoding.
Windows Media Video 9 looks pretty good from what I've seen of it, but well... firstly it's from MS, and secondly it's still from MS. The quality is pretty much on par with (if not better than) MPEG-4, but snowball's chance in hell that it will ever be playable (legally) on anything but Windows.
WAV is as free as anything. It is nothing but raw Pulse Code Modulation data with a special header with information about the samplerate and bit depth, and that's it. PCM has been around since 1929, IIRC.
Everyone on Hydrogen Audio disagrees with you. Do NOT link to r3mix.net - that site is notorious for its blatantly false information and crappy comparisons. Read the MP3 forums at Hydrogen Audio and becomre more enlightened.
When you read ADD as "Attention Deficit Disorder", that comment becomes a bit funnier :)

Nah. You can't find a lot in that central part of the image, as you can readily see.

MS knows it's a dog. It's as simple as that.
Well since Mandrake uses RPM too, that can't be the root of all your problems because then you would surely hate Mandrake as well.

Curiously enough, your post had both the words in one sentence, and it got modded down :D
I ain't no wanker! And that's it for todays lesson of "How to burn your Karma in 21 days"

Let's just hope that they don't screw up the European release this time. Somehow, I have my doubts :(

shouldn't have scratched our own satelite project (named Galileo, IIRC)
