    This is different. The case you describe the os doesn't support the driver. In the case linux vs. nvidia. the manufactorer doesn't support the os, which makes a huge difference.

    ok. I misread the parent. He said he had troubles getting his webcam to work, but i've had problems with nvidia+2.6. I followed the instructions on minion.de, but in couldn't use the module. Modprobe gave me the error: wrong fomule format or something

    I was not trolling. I just said that 2.6 wasn't supported by the nvidia, manufatorer, but only by third parties. My parent said that linux wasn't ready for the desktop, but i said that it is always hard to get a card working on an unsupported os.

    like you normally upgrades your redhat system. Writes the iso's or do a netinstall from a diskette, if that is still possible. Remember the fedora-thing is nothing but a name-change

    linux 2.6 is unsupported by nvidia. Good luck getting an unsupported driver to work on any os. I don't know the reason that nvidia doesn't support 2.6, but it's hardly a technical reason.

    It seems om the product page that in only plays mpeg and wma leaving the product useless to me. Most of what i want to see is encoded in divx or xvid.

    I havn't head that, but my point is that the harder it gets to do damage with the plane on the ground then the terrorists will eventually give up using commercial air-planes and spare the lives of the passengers. /Esben

    No it wont be worthless. The passengers are checked in head and ass for weapons and bombs before they go onto the plane. If it was impossible to hijack the plane the terrorists would stop trying at sometime and the security staff would leave all the regular passengers alone.

    just type the ip on the computer like: \\xx.xx.xx.xx and you are set. It takes some time before they all can "see" each other, but who cares you can connect to the computer even though they can't see each other. Regarding 2k vs. 98 you are right. That doesn't work out of the box, unless you enable the guest account on 2k.

    Well i guess that it is just a quention about using it right. Slashdot is also using Mysql and if it is good not enough for slashdot then it should be good enough for most sites.

    Actually they did. It just came to show that it wasn't their code and that it isn't in linux any longer.

    I don't know about about you, but i have had a shell script scanning my apache access.log for /scripts/../cmd.exe and that kind of stuff, and if the client was from the same isp as i the script would send a letter. They often replied that they informed the user about it.

    I also agree that it is the isp's responsible. It is their ip and thus they are responsible for that as long as the user is on their net they obey netiquitte... No having a hacked box online is not good netiquitte.

    Yeah, but fetchmail fetches all the mails. I only want to keep the undeleted emails on the server.

    The server runs windows and i don't have access to the filesystem. Do you think that all mail-servers use the same format internally?

    I have kind of the same setup as you. Do you know a way so emails stay on the server, but also kept locally so in case of server breakdown. i don't lose my emails. Imap (In evolution) doesn't give me the ability to save a copy on the disk. If i use pop3 will every email remain on the server even those i delete. Do you know a setup for my problem that works with evolution?

    I guess you haven't tried mplayer or don't how do install codecs. Check their hp. There are lots of codecs. The only problem with mplayer is the gui which really suck.

    You are absolutely right. There will not be a standardized system for buisnesses. So what? One large corporation can standardize all they want on their own computers. If their employees changed jobs every week this would be a problem, but even if they does kde and gnome handles basic stuff the same way: copy files etc.

    It seems that because people sees something new that must be a bad thing. In the office environment where the employees must only run programs and don't have to change configuration this is not a problem.

    I think that organizations should use whatever fulfill their needs, and then should we stop complaining about people have to much choice. The organizations are free to choose for their employees. Just don't take away my choice to solve a problem that is nonexistant.
