Ageism, old people won't live long to get much money, and "deathism" as you say can be bad.
I say that if they aren't making any more they don't need money to stay in business to make more. They won't anyways.
If it is because they just stopped or because they aren't even alive, they still won't make more.
You might be able to make an argument with me that the family could use this money so they could make more themselves but even that is unlikely.
I personally don't mind if people loot off me as a corpse. It might even help some.
I have heard that if tombraiders, no not Croft, didn't steal gold and such from the Egyption Pharoes it would end up being hoarded and not be useful. It also mean tombs and other stuff wouldn't be in museums for all to see but locked in the desert of wherever.
If course if you don't want your analogy then this may not apply. I can still use it to say that real stuff as more or at least not less valuable than IP. If Poe's relatives were still alive, does he have any, would that mean "The Raven" is under copyright and his family gets to sue all people for any public use of it.

To sumarize, if IP won't be made the money isn't need to prevent other work so more time can be given to more IP.

Yes, in my not so humble opinion though.

First, the Const. requires you to do so.

Second, I agree with the parent. You do not own it. You helped the public. The public owns it. You only get a temporary monopoly to allow you to make money so you don't go out of business so you can make more and help the public even more.

Third, if the Const. didn't have this clause then people would have never thought of as though they owned it. Like it used to be before laws like this were in place.

Fourth, The first patent law was actually made in the 1600's. Yes I know it is different from copyright but both are IP related. Lots of stuff wa made then and people thought that the public owned it. It was only until laws like out Const were made which made people think the creator was the owner insted of the public. I like the old, "ye olde" in that case, ways best.

P.S. Ignore the fact that a English teacher wouldn't like the fact I used the words "so" and "you" too often.

As for your comment, the only thing I am against is arbitrary age values.
The parent should know but younger people who happen to not have been on Earth for a few billion miles around shouldn't be "punished" becase of kids who can't handle it.
I can't think of a remedy that prevents age discrimition AND allows parents more control though. I would then not have to require ID's and hope nothing bad happens to them. The chance of the mind-altering aspect of tyhe violent\whatever game\movie\book, even if high, doesn't take precendence over the age discrimination.
To use an unrelated and completely dissimilar and stupid analogy, would you jail two people if one were guilty and the other innocent or free both?
