  1. I've Used Both on DSL Rising · · Score: 5, Interesting

I've used both cable modems and DSL and I have to say that I prefer DSL. I had constant mini-outages with the cable modem - ICQ up, ICQ down, ICQ back up, ICQ back down - coupled with several major network issues that kept me disconnected for long periods of time (upwards of 10-13 hours). Of course, this may be only a fault of Time Warner's service. I've yet to have any connectivity problems with my DSL.

Also, I've not noticed that "...cable modems, which in general costs about $10 less a month in the United States than DSL service does." Both my cable and my dsl cost $49.99 a month - though I did get a special on my DSL ($25 for the first 6 mo).

I think that there are the same amount of meteor showers as there have always been. We just know alot more about them now due to this newfangled thing called the Internet. :)

The thing is, though, there was barely any front end damage to car and there was no chance of lacerations or a concussion. His *only* injuries came from the airbag.

  4. Re:Ouch! on Motorcyclists To Get Wearable Airbags · · Score: 2, Informative

Someone I used to work with once rear-ended someone hard enough to deploy the steering wheel airbag - he had his hands in the 11 and 2 o'clock positions when he hit the car, and the force at which the airbag came out gave him burns on his forearms from his wrists to his elbows.

I think I'd rather take my chance on the leather armor when I finally get my motorcycle. Thousands of moto-racers can't be wrong :)

  5. Re:Spam proportional to public postings... on MSNBC: Offices Remain Spam Free Zones · · Score: 1

Most people don't give out their work emails anywhere near as much as they give out their private ones. Most of this is due to the fact that your company can, and will, read your email.

Of course, where I work, we didn't have a problem with email spam - we had Fax Spam. It was like our phones would play tag as the Fax Spammer computers would dial each of our numbers in turn.

Well, to me "lazy" means not doign real, productive work, such as well, work, spending time building real realtionships, helping other people, etc.

Actually, you can build real relationships through online gaming - friendships and more that last beyond the life of game. It may not be considered "cool", but, to me, it is just as valid as meeting people irl. In fact, you can talk to people that you would never have had the chance to meet - people from Sweden, Britain, Germany, New Zealand - all in the scope of some rather fun gaming.

  8. Cost VS Benefit on Actual Costs for the Space Station · · Score: 5, Interesting

They had an astronaut on the morning show I listen to today talking some of the benefits of the Space Station. One was the ability to grow human tissue in 3D - in gravity, the tissue gets flattened when grown in a petri dish - which is helping them in researching tissue-type diseases like cancer (I'm sure this was much simplified for not-quite-awake listeners :) ). I think that if a cure for cancer comes out of the ISS, then the price was worth it. On the flip side, we would probably have to start living in outer space due to overcrowding caused by everyone living alot longer. :D

  9. No Farscape, No Sci-Fi Channel on Spielberg's Taken · · Score: 4, Insightful

I have been boycotting the Sci-Fi channel since they dumped Farscape. If Taken gets good reviews, I will just get it on DVD when it comes out.
