I aint ingenious, but maybe you could change it to:
    a) Home Entertainment Center (DVDs and the works), fun and great for dates (includes backseats)

I know exactly what you mean.

This might be old news by now, since I never touched anything related to Real after this incident:

Tried to see a commercial recommended by friends, had to download Real One. I always thought Real was free, but had slight trouble looking all over the page for a link RELATED to the free basic. It felt like you had to pay. Found and installed it, I don't remember if it did NOT allow advanced installing options, or it had it but only allowed you to change directories (real advance there....), but it took over MY ENTIRE COMPUTER. Almost everything relating to media used Real. It had a semi-lousy interface, ads up the wazzo, and best of all, uninstalling means you THINK it's gone. All my media files still ran with RealShit. Some would no longer run because RealShit had no idea how to run it.

So instead of doing tracking and undoing the damages done, I emailed them and basically complained lots. From formal degrading to cuss. Near the end, I somehow managed to get rid of it manually. Never will touch anything ram, rm, or realanything.

Did I mention the file I wanted to see was so friggin blocky and poor quality that I ended up waiting for it on TV? (filesize = 1.5m 12 seconds)

ok, problems, I get you. But I don't see how you can fight back the fake files thing.

Even if it's not you, people technically should have no business downloading these files (since they don't know if they are fakes or not). If users from your ISP are doing this, then you can't do anything but "educate" these people. In any case at all, there's not one single legit way to fight *AAs for their "fake" files. P2P is for trading files, that's it. Files are fair game as long as they don't contain backdoors or viri.

Now *AAs will not pursue/sue unless you give them a reason to (COUGH COUGH COUGH WEEEZ COUGH, HACK HACK, COUGH. OMG@!!!!! BLOOD, COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE, woooooo), but that's a completely different issue. If you are pissed because you are paying for bandwidth, you might wanna try netzero or something

this might have been on another thread already, but I will risk that danger.

Not entirely sure, but it's not legal as long as you are not probing (running a script or using a program to scan open ports on an IP address).

But if you are on a p2p network, and you are download from a user, running netstat and tracert will get you enough info, and I don't think it's illegal (netstat just sees what's connected to your computer, can't be illegal there. Tracert just finds where the IP is and possibly what network or ISP it's from, again, dont think it's illegal. Tracert is using an "exploit" of ping to retrieve route information)

Just doing those 2, you can deduce that the user is a) sharing stuff, b) Where is he/she possibly from, c) who to contact to number his sharing days

if RIAA/MPAA made fake files, they would mock something that they currently "own". So my question is (no offense, again) what is your business with downloading something like that?

And how do you fight back something that's legal? Isn't that what some of us are trying to do? To obtain our rights to continue our legal activities?

If I downloaded a movie, but I own/bought the DVD, is that a copyright infringement? Same thing with a music CD, if I made mp3s out of them, but I bought the original CD, is that copyright infringement?

  12. Re:How do you track P2P users? on Hollywood Muscles Aussie ISPs Over Movie Downloading · · Score: 1

I believe a "tracker" (loosely used here) can just simply be a user of p2p. I never tried kazaa or winmx myself, but as long as the tracker search for Spears stuff, and was able to download from someone that's sharing, the tracker can assume that the material is being shared.
Since it's P2P network, the people involved in the transaction will have a virtual circuit (network), pretty easy to go from there.

For the latter case, as consumers of any type, we aren't exactly "trusted" by Mr. Big Corp

You are right, they already sell these consoles. But I do think they are not legally for sale here. I don't think they are officially approved by Chinese government yet. I could be wrong though.

Also, I was told that they will offer to "mod" it or they come "modded"

Aside from that, the prices at which they are selling for is quite high (kinda low compared to retail in US, but still high for an average Chinese citizen). Companies like Nintendo would probably have to enter the market with lower end systems that will match their spending quota. If they enter with current systems, the price will be too high, forcing them to drop prices in China. Then you get companies outside of CHina importing these units and sell at a cheaper price, hence creating a downward price spiral.

I was there a bit before, I also did see some weird looking consoles that play games similar to SNES games.
