I don't know if you have seen some news report on college kids downloading (they tend to pick those who are quite ignorant but think they are "l33t", chances are, the colleges busted their ass right after the interview aired). Most of them claim that it's free and they are poor, and nothing is stolen because nothing physical is being stolen (then wtf are they watching or listening to?). Now this free shit has become "yo cutie, check out my 'connections'". It's now a way to get girls into your room.

I agree to ADAPT OR PERISH. The Internet is a place where distance is almost eliminated, and there's absolutely more than enough opportunities out there for companies to gain their exposure to. RIAA/MPAA could've seriously profitted from the Internet, with a few "adjustments" to the current usage. Now it's too late. Kazaa exposed itself to the massive less-savvy user group and it will be difficult to turn or even stop them, without striking some dominating fear upon them.

  6. maybe his next auction is his logic on Attorney Sues eBay over Negative Feedback · · Score: 2, Insightful

Ebay is a gathering place where people can come on and sell their stuff. In a sense, Ebay is nothing more than a msg board almost. However, over the past years, people used Ebay as their median of business. That serves as a new opportunity for many (as well as TAXES for uncle Sam)

True, I agree that Ebay should have quite a bit of protection for the sellers as well as buyers (remember the little kid who bid for millions worth antique and thought it was a game?). Protection DOES NOT EQUAL to babysitting. There's no easy way to prevent 5 year olds giving negative feedback or bidding on crap they don't want, just for kicks. The drawback is that ebay do not have the necessary information to take drastic actions, they are, again, a median. I have seen and thought about ways to avoid that, but since I don't work for them, nor I use their services, oh well =P

That lawyer better start selling his logic on ebay soon. If he can put a monetary value on his reputation in a MSG board, then those who didn't leave him positive should be in the case. His reputation cannot be quantified, Ebay has risks, and I am sure he AGREED before entering. If he wins, thousands of ebay sellers will follow. He probably should sue himself too, since I doubt anyone will EVER bid on his sales for the fear of being sued.

He might win, actually. Even some extreme cases have their doubts....(McDonald Case - I am clumsy so I will sue your ass to be responsible).

Yet, I saw little kids, like 8, in those movie theaters watching and eating popcorn (some schemes turned my stomach upside down, I don't know how they still eat). The only difference is, Quake is violence from the player's part, where he/she has the option to CREATE violence (You could theoratically be morally against killing and running around in a deathmatch not firing a single shot.........but then that would be ludicrous). Movies and News impose it to reality, I guess.

I am no parent myself, but I respect that you are a player and have the responsibility to lock them away from your kids. What is restricted is often more interesting to a child than something common. My point is, if a gamer cannot be responsible with their kids, then dont be a parent! Having kids is a right, yes, but in that case, it's the kids' right to have responsible parents.

A child is like a blank piece of paper, parents have the responbility to make it the right color. Imagine irresponsibility as leaving the paper in the middle of a city. What happens to it?

Like the Sun Tzu Art of War laws, know thy self, know thy enemy, victory is possible. Thinking like these people, having a increased price of CDR/DVDR will strike a moral blow to their targeted audience, with their previous establishments. The DRM will protect their future investments.
Now seeing it that way, it is a legitimate approach, BUT, highly immoral and unethical. Ultimately, the idea, rather they admit or not (doesn't matter, it IS this way), is play it their rules or not play at all. Leaving us to believe we as consumers don't have rights, just options, offered by them. Alternatively, there are none. So is either their way or.....no way. In general, a fan just takes what's given. Adding that to their above and beyond of power (which they asserted through means not wise to mention). People in general like to dismiss anything suspicious, unfortunately. Just like the P3s with the Unique IDs.

The idea is bad, knowing that whatever you do can be tracked. Hell, if everyone were goody two shoes, never broke a law (assuming stupid ones like no icecream in your pocket), there's no need for such devices. From another perspective though, there's also no HARM in such devices. Anything has two sides. Even the P3 unique IDs. True you information is being tracked possibly, but what if it's used for good: tracking the bastard who stole your computer? Banking checks your computer ID? Company networks will only allow those with certified IDs to access interal information?

However, as these information can be used both ways. Some people use these systems for assumed guilt on us consumers, to retaliate, we assume guilt on them for implementing it.

I saw from most threads that people do admit that most people or people they know use Blank CDs for "less-than-legal-reasons". In reality, what's the use in trying to stop them from doing this levy?
What can be the arguement? I for one do not like the idea and will go against it all the way. But I must ask: out of what context? What support do I have?
I understand that this is hard on people with legitimate reasons for CDRs (promotional CDs, research projects, etc), but question is, what % is that of the total CD consumption? I do make audio CDs, but from existing CDs I bought (to avoid damage during my high rate of traveling). I don't think that would make a reasonable arguement (if it breaks, buy another one. The record companies do make more of a profit that way....)
Some said that this is infringing our rights. Rights to do what?
Innocent until proven guilty, probably won't work anymore, especially when the battle of the lawyers is how much dough you have in reserve. Guilty, until proven more guilty, seems to be the trend
