    If newspapers cost $20, maybe people would use Xerox machines to make pirated copies. If you had the right stream a movie instantly (and cache it and watch it over and over for say, 72 hours) for $3, why even bother with Kazaa?

    Perhaps we should look at it that way: If all good code would and could be reused, more than the half of all software engineers would be ou of duty soon

    In that case, a "software engineer" would be someone dedicated to designing and building systems by putting together building blocks of code, instead of writing code from scratch. Software would start to resemble other engineering disciplines.

    If you are searching for something that is pretty rare, such as a friend of yours, there may not be more than a few relevant pages in the entire web. No search engine covers all the web. It is possible that Google may find one or two results and another search engine such as Fast or Inktomi may find one or two different results. It happens to me pretty often.

    That isn't necessarily true. If humans could create a machine of similar intelligence (or even less) but extremely fast, the machine would be solve the same problems much more quickly. For some, that is the definition of intelligence. Look at chess programs for an example. Also, how about a really dumb machine with the capability to improve itself and an unlimited amount of time to do it?
