The issue isn't that there is a new expliot. The good thing is that we found out about the exploit by having to apply the patch to fix it.
No software is perfect, any software that has any contact with the internet can have a exploit. It all depends on how fast the developers are able to discover and fix the problems.
Yup,
Funny thing is that I was a recent Computer Science Grad that was working at Wendy's up until this week.
Sometimes you have to swallow your pride to pay the bills until you find your place.
To end on a good note, I am now just starting my dream job (computer programmer) at a fun and interesting company
He will just get more emails now from the same people wondering why he didn't put machine x in frount of computer y.
It is impossible to make a top 10 list that will make everyone happy, but it is cool that he took other peoples ideas to value and re-did this list to accomidate information that he learned in the process
My old ADSL connection had the habit of going down more than i would like. I had it down to a rythem. I would reboot the router, reboot the modem.... call the help desk to see what the problem is.
I thought this was normal until my girlfriend pointed out that the only two numbers i had on my speed dial were her and my ISP
Hello,
I have been Developing a.NET Portal Application for the past few months. I ran a quick Test on our application just to see how it would run.
Specs Are as Follows:
App Server:
Duron 800
512 MB RAM
40GB HD 7200RPM
DB Server:
Celeron 500
640 MB RAM
20GB HD 7200RPM
As you can see, these are not server class machines, but they seem to run the app alright. I ran a simulation of this application based on the IBS Portal www.asp.net running 150 Concurrent Requests Per Second:
The average Requests per second on this app were 98.51. So, IMHO on low quaility hardware, the.NET platform can handle about 100 Requests per second before it starts to get hot.
I was wondering why they would make this free, I am not going to complain though, since I play Day of Defeat a lot(check it out if you want a good mp ww2 game) this should be a fun game to try out.
I think we can agree that in some cases DSL is faster than cable. I live in a two university town where there are a lot of students in my area. That means there are a lot of heavy bandwidth users in my area.
Since cable in our area has a shared backbone for neighbourhood segments, that means that cable in my area is a lot slower than DSL. With Kazaa running all the time on almost all of the machines, I end up getting a faster connection for a lower price.
And this is different from Citrix or Terminal Services or a remote X session or good ole SSH how?
That was my first thought too, but what it seems to do is run a screen scraping program or something like that to interface with the apps on your pc, then send the data off to the PDA to be displayed in the PDA's native GUI toolkit.
Reminds me a lot of the green screen legacy apps getting new and improved web front ends and windows GUI's... just moved that idea off to PC / PDA. Very cool for sure. Makes me want to pick up a PDA
I am so close to switching over to linux, since the work that I do is mostly java programming and web design. Just the fact that I really like to play a couple games now and again.
I am just wondering if we will ever get the performance we get with games under windows. I know that they have a couple games ported, but in games like FPS where framerates are so important. I think that if Wine can perform in this area, we would see a lot more conversions to linux. Games sell computers, think of the first application that you baught, I know I didn't buy a word processor first(Links386 to be exact).
Now flame me if i am wrong, but doesn't wine work on some sort of Virtual Machine, thus adding an extra layer between the hardware and the code?
(due to lag with terminal services... here is the rest of my comment)
What Borland Plans for.NET
* New IDE Called Delphi Studio.NET
- Allows delphi developers to convert delphi apps to web services.
- Add Web service links into delphi projects
- Create new web services in delphi
They are including a c# compiler with their release, although it isn't up to par and is kind of a side step in the goal.
The really cool thing is that the are integrating the Kylix Features with.NET. So you can code your.NET app with delphi and run it on your linux server with apache or do the IIS way.
They would have been a major competitor to VS.NET, since it added the option of linux, something that will for sure disappear if MS takes over.
I have come across many computer users who will spit in my face for mentioning the name apple or mac. They are still caught up in the early mac days and tend to have a negative view towards all things apple.
On the other hand though, when you ask them if they have ever used OS X, the blank stare as you explain to the linux user that it is unix under the hood, just with a much nicer GUI.
How can I hack it? I would love to be able to see what type of data is available in that box.

One more reason you should take a job with McDonalds.
The cycle continues.

You have your ISP Service Desk on Speed Dial.

This just brought to mind the .NET CLR.
I have done a little bit with this, coded a couple apps where a member on my team really really liked VB and myself a java guy liked J#.
We could work well together without having to worry about learning a syntax that we didn't feel comfortable with.
Yeah,

Now this is news!
I bet TF2 is comming too! (grin)
As a mod player that has worn my HL copy into a fine paste, i would love to pick up this game just to show my support for a great company.

I recently went to a borland conference where they talked about their .NET and web services startegies.

Amen to that, starting to belive all those new world order theories that have been floating around the net, mmm
To think, we can all be like the Americans, oh joy!
