  2. Still employed? on Ask Slashdot: Do I Give IT a Login On Our Dept. Server? · · Score: 1

"Do you like being employed?" is a valid question for the poster. I would be shocked if any reputable corporation allowed employes to connect their own devices to the corporate network.

If you don't want IT to have access to a machine on their network, perhaps you should find another network.

  3. What about paying subscribers? on Pandora App Sends Private Data To Advertisers · · Score: 1

I'm curious if paying subscribers are also having their privacy raped by Pandora. Most likely, but it would be nice if they didn't.

I guess the principal is stating that the teacher is in fact a pedophile and a rapist. The comment about being bipolar must have been factually untrue, warranting the more severe punishment.

A background check would catch name changes and most employers ask their potential hires if they've ever been convicted of a crime. If he lies during the interview process and the employer later finds out, that will probably get him fired and soil his new name.

I have my account set up so that by default everything is restricted, except to pre-configured groups. If I don't add a "friend" to one of the privileged groups, they don't get to see much.

I don't see anything wrong with patenting a discovery that allows using the information from our DNA. There are huge issues with companies trying to patent the actual DNA because millions of people would infringe on it merely by existing.

The only chance of stopping it will be if they can manage to get enough amendments on it that stops republicans from voting for it.

  12. Stop wasting food on Spinach Could Be Used For Hydrogen Fuel · · Score: 1

They really need to stop wasting time and money researching how to reduce the food supply. It makes a lot more sense to look at potential energy sources that do not reduce the amount of arable land.

I think you're on to something. You can't get more "in the middle of nowhere" than an island. The US needs to establish an island "colony" for the individuals on the list. Given enough time, the colony could even become an independent, thriving country.

It's just like the TSA and the new X-ray back scatter devices. There is a lot of money to be had by providing technology and services that grant the illusion of safety, but don't actually deliver on their promise.

If my cell provider implements this, I'll switch carriers. If they all try this, then I'll just drop to a pay as you go phone without internet access.
